Lovely, quiet hotel in heritage area”
The Hellsten Senate has two buildings: old and new. The old is a gorgeous, well-maintained art nouveau building with well-appointed rooms. Choose this one if you can. My first room in the new building was large and well-appointed but had no character, was on ground level with no privacy from the street and had almost no wireless internet. The curtains were inadequate and in poor repair so this made the situation more awkward. I moved to the old building and was much happier. The reception is open only during the day, but the 'remote control' reception from Hellsten's other hotel is flawless and efficient. Don't be put off by the limited reception hours. The area, really an island, Katajanokka, is quiet and architecturally notable. It is not an area for nightlife, although I highly recommend the restaurant Wellamo which is a short walk from the hotel, and there is a small and cosy bar between the tram stop and the hotel. The price I paid for the hotel was very good indeed, and unequaled in value on the rest of my trip.

Very good”
I'm a repeat customer at the Hellsten Senate, which says something, but this time I was charged Ten Euro per night for a baby's cot. Pretty steep, and the only time I was charged for this on the entire trip, which encompassed many countries and hotels. Also, the rooms are beginning to look pretty shabby, and could do with a little maintenance now and then.

Large rooms with all facilites. Good standard”
First try with hotel with no reception. Feels strange but everything worked out OK. Good suana and equipment in kitchen. Large room and hight ceilings in old house. Only 5 min walk to central market place in central Helsinki.

Exceptional”
Hotel check-in at 1am was smooth, hotel staff though not on duty but was able to assist remotely. We also had a complimentary upgrade, it was a lovely surprise as we experienced a bad pick-up situation at the airport earlier on by another vendor. Room was huge with a living room, dining area, kitchen and bedroom with clean bathroom. Just note that you may not get a Uber ride at this area in the morning. We had 3 drivers cancelled on us, each caused us to wait for about 15 mins. We ended up missing our ferry to Tallinn. Hotel staff was super helpful and friendly when we needed assistance to check and rebook ferry tickets. She helped us to call the ferry company. It's a short walk to the ferry terminal :)

Nice Apartment Hotel”
*First of all, If you book this hotel via Agoda, you have to contact this hotel by mail yourself (find it yourself in their webpage) after booking, as Agoda is not giving your email address to the hotel, thus you could not receive their check-in arrangement email. The location is very good. It's a local living area. Although it's 20min walk away from the city center, but it gives you a quite and cozy environment. If you rent a car, the street of the hotel is Zone2, which mean you can pay lesser parking fee than in the city center. If you are too lazy to walk, you can take a bus to the city center, there is a but stop and train station nearby. There is supermarket just a street down and you can buy your foods for dinner and breakfast and cook it in the suite. You can also walk 5min to the harbour, which has a great scenic view. The bed is a spring-coil bed, but maybe it's too old, it sucks your whole body down when you sleep on it (we are slim people!), which gave us a back-pain after the stay.

Guest-friendly accommodation”
The Hotel's facilities were very apt for my requirements, staff very helpful & friendly. Only issue I had was upon entering the area of Block B, ground floor, leading to Room 214, the smell was awful! It created a very negative impression to first-time guests. However, upon entering the room, it was all pleasant and great!

Floor of room214”
Floor of room 214 should be cleaned or repainted…the red spots on the floor under the studio chair were quite terrible at night as they really look like blood!

Short stay before cruise”
1. Room was big, has a kitchenette but could be better if there were condiments etc. 2. There were elevators but did not work at night when we arrived, so had to carry my luggage up. Was kinda creepy. 3. Staff was very helpful and friendly but not available after 10pm 4. Location is not bad. Very close to Uspenski Cathedral and the market square and also the cruise terminal. More suitable for cruise travelers.

Nice apartments and the best staff”
Location is excellent and the staff are the best you can get. The apartments are nice, I stayed in the one with balcony, which was great to me as a smoker. The only thing I would point out is the need of new furniture. Some chairs are broken and kitchen needs more utensils, and other things like a toaster etc.

this is an apartment, no staff at reception, comfy”
Nobody is on reception after17:00 and all weekend. There is a number to call from the intercom but it takes time to work through. Otherwise the apartment is comfortable, spacious. Sauna. Wonderful location.

Overpriced, with no service”
Entirely unstaffed (i.e. no service): no cleaning was done during my stay; no one was on reception at any time, so there was no one to complain to about the lack of soap/smell of drains/lack of room information etc.. We even had to call another hotel in order to get access. The facilities were there of an upmarket youth hostel, at the price of a four star hotel.

Self Check in”
If you are late check in, you have to pick up the phone in the reception, and they will guide you how to get the key. But it requests a basic english that you may understand what they say in the phone. The room is big, clear but there are some red ink on the mirror. It scared me when I go washroom. And the kitchen tools is not really clean

Reasonable priced apartment”
the apartment is a bit far from the vr station, and it's not easy to locate the building's main entrance. the building looks quite old, but it's tidy and spacious, overall a good pick if you need to stay long and travel to the nearby pier.
