Well run large hotel. Excellent staff”
We came from a small hotel in Mirissa and although I liked the elegant sleek architectural style of the Heritance Ahungalla, I found the size of the place dauntingly large. Therefore rooms can be quite a distance from the reception/restaurant area. On arrival we found the hot water in our room didn't work and it couldn't be fixed. So, the next day we were upgraded free of charge to another room. Full marks there. The staff are excellent. Everyone we encountered was friendly and very keen to help and be of service. This I have found to be unusual in large hotels. The rooms are pleasantly designed and are kept super clean. Wi-fi strength in the rooms is excellent. The beach is right by the hotel and with easy access. It was often quite deserted as most guests stayed around the two large swimming pools. This may have been to avoid the beach sellers (they weren't a big problem, just mildly irritating at times). We had our breakfast in the main Jute restaurant and the food was very good. However, we only had dinner in the hotel a couple of times because we wanted to get out and sample the local restaurants in the evening. Also, we found for an evening meal the Jute restaurant was just too large and impersonal. The buffet food was fine but we just didn't like eating in such a huge room. Note that it's quite a ride into Bentota proper from the hotel - easily twenty minutes by tuk tuk taxi. Quite a few good restaurants to be found there. Best check on Trip Advisor for up to date reviews. We liked this hotel, it was very well run - but it was just a bit too big for us.
Relaxed, fulfilled and happy”
After 6 busy and interesting days in Sri Lanka, we couldn't find more beautiful hotel than Heritance Ahungalla. The room have been cleaned twice a day. At the reception desk works very capable staff whome are always available. If you ever stay in this hotel please ask for mr Dinusha Kularathne. He made for us surprise in the room (flowers for wife and fruit basket). He makes a great effort to accomplish any request we had. In general this is the best hotel we ever stayed in, don't skip it if you ever come in Sri Lanka.
Perfect! ”
Amazing 2 nights spent at Heritance Ahungalla during our trip around Sri Lanka. The pool was amazing, rooms well appointed and comfortable, great selection of food in the restaurant, and situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. Above all the professionalism and friendliness of the staff was second to none. Will certainly stay here on my next visit to Sri Lanka and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Ordinary, poor management”
Ahungalla Heritance Hotel is reassuring when you arrive through its private drive after passing the entrance arch gate. It keeps being reassuring when you discover the open reception to the swimming pool that visually extends straight into the Indian Ocean just few meters away until … you end up checking in at a bar behind the reception that was very dark as most of its lights were switch off; was it a try of being Eco friendly ?? We had a strange feeling that the hotel was not up to its 5*. This obvious detail was like the top of an iceberg; will we discover the rest of it along our stay? Was Heritance a 5* iceberg? The room was ok, yet had aged and would need a lift. There was no safe deposit (5*?). The room maintenance appeared secondary as we noticed an obvious splash of dirt on the terrace door window and one of the door lock was broken. At “Mustard coffee shop”, we ordered seafood salad, it came with no salad or veggies (misleading salad term). We checked the “UpperRestaurant” menu and were not impressed by its presentation neither by the incomprehensive culinary composition of its expensive dishes. The restaurant was empty … lack of soul, poor lighting, no spark. Instead we went to this little Coconut Hut restaurant down the beach out of the hotel, where we really had a superb and reasonable diner, thank you to Berthy the owner for his welcome. We recommend it. Back to our room, we were not blown by the auto glorifying video of Heritance Ahungalla that was played in random on the hotel TV channel, it sounded too superlative to be true. The Heritance corporate management needs to open its eyes, international real 5* hotel are on their way to Sri Lanka and soon they may be at the origin of the end of Heritance Hotels 5 * era. The F & B department should also be worry and revise its restaurants concepts and put its heart and mind into it.
great luxury property with an outstanding pool”
The Heritance hotels live up to thier reputuation - outstanding. I stayed at the Dambulla one last year and the Ahungalla one was of the same outstanding standard (not as artistic though).
A lovely hotel with helpful, friendly staff”
we found 'the heritance' a welcome relief after two and a half weeks of arduous travelling. the service was impeccable, meals and drinks were not too expensive and local trips were easily arranged. we arrived after three days in unawatuna which had sadly clashed with a festival which meant that it had been a crazy time. the 'heritance' was peaceful and classy. staff were super-friendly without being imposing and we appreciated the fact that the gym was available without ever being too busy. the room was comfortable and the bathroom had a fabulous shower. the balcony was nice and we had a view of the pool and the sea. i truly can't fault it.
Great stay”
We stayed 3 nights in Hesitance Ahungalla. The facilites are really good. The room was big and clean, the king size bed very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was good. The beach is spotless, as the swimming pool. The hotel is however a bit big and I would not recommend it for couple traveler as it is full of family or big groups. We however enjoyed our stay where we relaxed after 2 weeks traveling around Sri Lanka.
Wonderful hotel, Safe to travel”
Hotel was wonderful from first step to the last good bye. Staff was amazing, quick check in and check out and hotel makes sure the safety of the guests. Pools were properly maintained and hotel is in walking distance to the ahungalla beach view point. a must visit place. Its a hotel which makes Sri Lanka proud ! cheers
Great hotel, great location”
Stayed 4 nights at the Heritance. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the room was perfect - spacious & clean with a huge balcony overlooking the pool and sea. The food was varied and tasty with a good selection for all meals. There was a very well stocked library and a games room and the hotel had a great feel to it.
Amazing as always”
Heritance hotels have always been one of favourite places. The staff is super friendly, the services are impeccable and the food is always so good. This is my fourth visit and it never fails to leave a smile on my face. Plus we got a free upgrade😊
Highly recommend Heritance Ahungalla”
This hotel is beautiful. 2 swimming pools, that meet the beach. Good food and variety - mostly local style. Very comfortable rooms. Our rooms had balconies overlooking the garden and beach. Staff were friendly, excellent English and couldn't do enough to make our stat memorable. Highly recommend. Good midway point between Bentota and Galle.
Great sea view”
When I walked in the lobby, it was very crowede and noisy, I saw the swimming pool from lobby, it was as crowded as disneyland, I cannot believe this is a 5 star hotel. And the swimming pool was somehow under maintance, can see the view as saw on the website. No bath tub in the bathroom. My flight was 12 noon, so I had an early breakfast at 7:20am, the breakfast time started at 7am, but it was chaos when I walked in the restaurant, staff in the restaurant were chatting, laughing, there's no Professional at all!! I was sooo disappointed at Heritance Ahungalla hotel!!!
Excellent!”
A friend had recommended the Heritance hotels so we had high expectations. The hotel met and exceeded our expectations. This is a beautiful facility. Food and service were top notch.
Nice accomodation, good service”
To the end of our stay at Sri Lanka it was very relaxing, the sea is to rough at this time (August) at the west coast to swim inside. The restaurant with the buffet was a bit to small and your cloth smell afterwards. It could be perfect if there would be offerd tables outside. If you are leaving the location (beach or street) there offer too much peoples their services...this is unluckily a bit nerving. I have ssen in this time many hotels at Sri Lanka and Heritance Ahungalle was one of the best.
A family weekend at the beach”
We really enjoyed our weekend at the Heritance. The staff were kind and friendly and the environment was excellent with plenty of loungers, adequate shade, clean sand, clean sea, good food and great room service.
Bawa By the sea”
Had a problem similar to the one we had at the other Heritance property at Kandalama, Check-in took 45 minutes as they could not find the reservation inspite of providing the voucher. Heritance needs to get their act together on this issue
Great hotel amazing view”
We had a pleasant stay at the hotel. The staff were helpful at the checkin. We informed them we were vegetarian and they told us they would inform the cook to have some veg menu. But when we went for dinner we were informed that there is nothing vegetarian and it was Barbeque night. We were asked to go to the coffee shop, over there we were told they would prepare something veg and would take 45 minutes. But what we were served was inedible even our dog back home wouldn't eat it. Over all the hotel was great but we had a bad time with food. The breakfast was good. But rest of the time we had to go to taj Bentota for food. Wouldn't recommend the hotel to vegetarians
Nice hotel”
Two huge, beautiful pools. Helpful and unobtrusive staff. Spacious rooms with nice views. Buffet breakfast and dinner are good, but if you didn't pay for full board, skip the dinner buffet and get the rice and curry at the a la carte restaurant: more than you can eat at half the price. Room service menu is not too exciting, I'd suggest making the trip to the restaurant. Beds are soft, but we got two single mattresses put together instead of a double, which was a bit annoying. Spa: Decent massages if a little pricey. Very nice hotel, no real complaints except for the website: the hotel did not respond to repeated emails before we arrived, and there are no directions or tips for how to get here on the website.
Beautiful location, friendly staff”
I upgraded from a deluxe to a luxury room for a bigger room with a better view and bigger bathroom with a bath. My new room was lovely, really spacious, comfortable bed, large balcony with double aspect. The deluxe rooms are on the 2nd floor, luxury rooms on 3rd floor. The staff were very helpful over a lost passport debacle, making the necessary phone calls and accompanying me to the local tourist police. 2 pools, and the residents only pool was a necessity when the hoards of kids came to use the facilities at various points in the day. The main, infinity pool is stunning. Food was good but expensive. If you are going for local fare, then the restaurant (a la carte) is much better value the buffet next door where you get essentially the same food for half the price. The pool bar menu was limited and very expensive.
Quality service and good rooms”
We love the Heritance chain of hotels and stayed in all 3 properties in Sri Lanka. This particular property has great view, good room and quality however it is the lowest of the 3 - Tea Factory is the best. The F&B in this property is the most expensive but the best food quality is at Kandalama
