Excellent location!”
I enjoyed my stay in Kuching so much I ended up staying 16 days at Hero Hostel. There are only a few private rooms, plus a dorm that you must rent out entirely (so that may be good for groups). The rate for the private room ($10 USD when I booked) is on par with the rate for private rooms in other hostels, but seems like a much better value, considering the quality of the room (compared to what I saw of other people's single rooms in some Chinatown hostels). The location is great since it straddles the hill between Chinatown and Jalan Padungan, the two parts of town where most of the tourist action happens. It's also just two blocks to the center of the waterfront (where the Hilton is located). And I can't say enough good things about the staff. Regina was always very helpful, even walking me toward the nearest 24-hour laundromat when I asked for directions! Lionel, the owner, responded very quickly to any questions I had via email, and his brother will even drive you to the airport for a competitive rate. The only downside is that the common area is almost non-existant--it's just a couch in the non-air conditioned hallway, so it's not a great place to meet people. But there are plenty of backpackers traveling through Kuching, and the couch surfing community there is lively enough that there are plenty of other avenues to meet people.

Excellent hostel”
Hero Hostel is located close to the waterfront in Kuching, just a few minutes walk down the road. The rooms are small and basic but comfortable and clean. The superhero theme is amazingly well done, every wall and corner is plastered with comics, pictures, movie posters, scenes, etc. The amount of care that went into the design is amazing! Judging by the looks alone this hostel is a highlight of our Asian tour (which, after six months and well over 60 different accommodations should tell you something)! The receptionist lady is also amazingly helpful, she was every bit as lovely as the place itself. Highly recommended!

If you are fit, this is the best hostel.”
You can't get away from the fact that this great little place is up 3 flights of stairs. But if that is fine with you then you really should try Hero Hostel. The rooms are spotless, the bathrooms likewise and the little lady that will look after you is just lovely. She knows everything about Kuching and will save you so much time and hassle. Facilities are basic but if you just want somewhere to sleep then this is perfect and cheap too. Great restaurants right next door. Be sure to ask for a back room though. There is a fun pub downstairs but it can get a bit noisy late at night.

Nice but noisy”
Hero hostel is nice, clean and the location is pretty good too. The receptionist is lovely and very helpful. The only con is the noise at night as there a couple of bars downstairs. For the price it is worth it and I will come again the next time I come to Kuching

good hostel”
the reception Lady Regina was so lovely and helpful. She is like an Angel, Granni and Housekeeper all in one. She was showing me the bus station to bako nationalpark and gaves me so many tips about kuching. Hostel was clean and the own bathroom was nice. Hot water and AC was good too. Room was a little bit smelly but that's why I had the AC on the whole day, than it was fine. The concept of the Hostel is brilliant, never saw anything like this before. Ok during nighttime it was noisy but she let me know before and I read it here. I had earplugs with me.

Best hostel we've ever stayed at”
The staff lady was amazing! She was the friendliest person we met during our travels and made our stay 11/10. The room at hero hostel was simple but clean and functional. We also stayed at the noisy room downstairs owned by the same person and it wasn't even noisy. They even gave us earplugs (though we didn't need them) the location was great close to everything. But for us the highlight was the little lady. Please stay here

Perfect stay! ”
The owner of hero’s hostel is so lovely! She provided us with maps / timetables for all the amazing sites in Kuching. The rooms are decorated keeping in theme and the shared bathrooms are cleaned daily if not twice a day. There is a shopping complex about 5 minutes walk away that has a very cheap cinema and bowling alley - great for evening fun! Definitely worth a visit.

nice enough budget place”
The reception lady was lovely and so helpful in showing us the bus stop to Bako National Park and telling us about other things happening in Kuching. The hostel was clean and bathroom was fine. Quirky decorations as each room is decorated like a superhero. It was nosiy as others have stated and the reception lady also let us know that we were to expect noise.

Great location & Friendly Staff!”
Spent a night in this little cosy hostel. Excellent location - walkable to all places of interest in downtown Kuching. A 24hr eatery on the ground floor. Staff is friendly and the room I had was wonderful. The only downside is the need to walk up to the third floor which maybe less convenient for people with big luggage. Definitely a great place to stay!

Good stay.”
We like to stay in Hero Hostel. The room was quite small for that big matress but that’s fine anyway. The WiFi didn’t work in our room but the staff tried to fixe it and they were very friendly and helpful about the information we needed. Even she came with us to the bus station to show us where it was. Good value for the money! And clean 👍🏼

Nice hostel, better staff”
We spend one week in Hero Hostel. The ambiance is really nice (we slept in Superman and Transformer room). The lady at the reception is wonderfull, she gave us a lot of information. Near from restaurants and waterfront. Two points to improve, a water fountain will be usefull and at night it's noise from nearest bars

Great service and friendly staff”
It's a simple hostel with all the basic necessities you need for a short stay. Room is clean. At night the bars below will be quite loud, but they also provide ear plugs so that isn't much of a problem for heavy sleepers. Location wise is near the main attractions and famous kopitiam in Kuching.

nice and tidy”
Hero hostel is clean, tidy and comfortable. Regina who works there is absolutely lovely and very helpful with local knowledge. The location is a short walk to the waterfront and close enough to bus stops. it's a bit noisy at night due to a bar on the bottom floor of the building but I slept fine with earplugs.

Exceptional”
The manager was extremely helpful and friendly. She helped plan all of my trips and showed me where to get on the buses. I liked the rooms and the hero themes. Because it's part of a building complex it does feel a bit like you are staying in an apartment. The nearby topspot food court is a great place to get seafood and the place downstairs has great rotis. The only issue is that it is a bit loud at night. Other wise for this price range it's a great place.
