decent rooms, good location but lacking in service”
The Hero Hotel is a recently renovated hotel in a good location in Ambon, within walking distance of good restauarants and coffee shops. The renovated rooms are nicely laid out and not as small as some of the other hotels in this class. However, I found the service to be lacking - lots of young people at the front desk who were quite surly or just seemed uninterested in helping out. Small issues like having laundry returned to me unwashed, or being a bit bothered by front desk clerk's friends hanging out in the hotel late at night were examples of a lack of professional-quality service. I also had several technical problems with the room - my key card didn't work properly to get the electricity going and the AC leaked all over the floor. In short, a decent place to stay for a night or two of transit, but don't expect much help from the staff.

Clean & tidy, meeting basic traveller needs”
The hotel offers the basic needs for most travellers, particularly those who are budget conscious. There is no restaurant, but the lobby has a convenience store where guests can buy drinks, coffee, snacks and toiletries. There is a nice coffee shop next door, and the location is very close to government buildings, if one has business in Ambon.

Saved by the Engineer”
I booked this hotel on the very same day we were supposed to stay there. I booked 2 bedrooms and called the hotel to let them know that we'll be needing additional bed for the fifth person. But they told me that they only have one room left and they don't have my registration from Agoda yet. So I tried to call Agoda's customer support without success. Then I emailed Agoda and they reply that I just had to show up there and the hotel manager will provide a solution. When I arrived there, the manager had gone home and the the receptionist of course, don't have a solution for us. After trying to contact several other hotel (all full) and sent SOS email requested an assistant from Agoda (no reply), the Engineering guy, Mr. Budi offered us to see the room and see if he can fit us all five within the room. So accompanied by his two colleagues, they put 3 extra beds in the room and we got our room set for the night. The next morning we met the lady who is probably the manager who freed all of the extra bed charges in exchange for the non existence of the second room. This is a revelation to me, I always thought that Agoda had online system that shows real time room now numbers, but turned out it didn't. I would like to recommend Agoda to fix this as this could've ended up with us sleeping on the street.

Good Hotel”
Just stay for one night transit in Ambon city. Surrounded with food stalls and behind the Maluku Governor Office, describing the central position of this hotel in the city. Good for business trip. Clean, hot water and helpful staff is the other benefit for the hotel's guest.

Avoid room 502”
Rooms were well-appointed and modern and views from the top floor were fine but windows were small. No kettle or fridge. Wi-Fi was slow but worked most of the time. I first stayed in room 502, but there was a bad smell from the bathroom and I was kept awake at night by some mechanical noise, probably from ventilation or somebody else's air-con. I then moved to room 505 which was better. There seems to be key card problems througout the hotel.

Nice and Quiet ”
It’s nice and quiet considering the location is in the heart of the city. The “street food”/breakfast reminds me of my childhood which I love it. The only thing that annoys me is that I need to remind the cleaning service to make up the room every morning.

OK place in Ambon”
We spent just one night here after a live-aboard scuba diving trip. The location of the hotel is convenient to town but about 30-45 minutes to the airport. We ate lunch in the café and the food was fine. Staff was friendly and helpful and spoke English. They booked a taxi for us early in the morning for the airport, and that worked fine. WiFi was free and pretty fast. Bed was comfortable. Room cleanliness was acceptable, but not great - lots of dust and dirt behind the TV, and bathroom sink did not drain well. OK for a budget hotel.

Clean, comfortable rooms in a good location behind the kantor Gub in the city center. My choice for transit to other sites in Maluku. Within walking distance to city sites.

Clean but overpriced”
The hotel is easy to find and the rooms are spacious and clean (even the bathroom!) but it is too expensive for what you get. Staff is friendly and the food is good in the restaurant.

Very friendly place in the city center ”
room was cozy and clean, but a little "rain" from the AC... The staff is wonderful and friendly, and in the groundfloor there is a nice and modern restaurant, also a small shop. There is Youth Hostel atmosphere, very nice :) I liked it and I will come back next year with my family!
