This historic hotel, built in 1885, is located in the center of Cairns and near the Esplanade and is very affordable considering the location. The Casino, Reef Terminal, and the Kuranda Railway Station are all easily accessible from the hotel. Here, guests can enjoy the Great Barrier Reef tour via Hides Hotel Cairns tour booking or from numerous tour groups in the city. For other sightseeing option, visit the Daintree Tropical Rainforest for an outstanding nature adventure. Restored in 1997, the hotel now features modern amenities while retaining its colonial charms. Feast upon the delicious and complimentary continental breakfast from a unique vantage point on the verandas overlooking the city. Hone your diving skills before venturing to the reef at the on-site dive pool and stay in contact with friends via the 24-hour Internet cafe. The Hides Hotel Cairns is a splendid venue for experiencing Cairns and the surrounding natural beauty of tropical North Queensland.

At the very heart of Cairns”
I had originally booked into a room with shared facilities but for $10 they "upgraded" me. Room was large & clean with all that you would expect (although no view). Of course, you can't be more central in Cairns than Hides Corner -- eateries, "Irish pubs", souvenir shops, museums, even a branch of the local university within one block. Staff were friendly & very helpful. Excellent light breakfast supplied.
I was surprised to have to paid a deposit of $ 100 and should get back my money in my bank account within 5 days!!!!!!!!!!! Bad internet connection nearly inexistant during our stay. Was share bathroom but very far from the room. The room we where very complicated to get there no one to show us the way.
Great Central location.”
Location is excellent. You can park your car for $10 in their secure car park which you enter from around the corner. I had a room with an ensuite which as an older person was perfect for me. Breakfast is basic but adequate. Room was clean and comfortable. Check in was efficient. I did not venture far, happy with P>J O'Briens around the corner.
I wanted to be in the centre of the city within walking distance to things so I did not have to worry about driving around so Hides fits the bill. Did not venture far in fact down to PJ O;Briens downstairs. Had a friend visit from NZ so needed to be in the city. I had a room with ensuite it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is basic but all I needed. Have stayed a number of times and will stay again. Parked the car around the corner under the building for $10.
Perfect for our group who just wanted to be in that central location. Had an issue with the parking but was sorted by staff quickly.
I was in Cairns for a wedding so chose to stay at Hides because of its location and because its excellent value for money. Check in was efficient, there is a lift to the floor you require, there are a large number of rooms but not much walking required to get there. I was in a room that had two beds, toilet and shower. It was clean and comfortable. I did experience some noise from girls next door but not too bad. It was walking distance to all the things I needed so was happy there and when in Cairns with or without transport I will continue to stay there.
Very friendly staff, and extremely understanding!”
Excellent customer service! When we accidentally booked our stay for the wrong dates, the manager took pity on us and changed the dates for us. Other staff that I interacted with were also very friendly and helpful. They even have a toll-free number, so you can contact them from overseas by Skype =)
Charming old hotel, in the heart of town”
We stayed just one night here, the place has tons of charm. The patio is awesome to peoplewatch, and for breakfast, the location is superb, in the heart of town. Maybe a bit too much so, as it can get noisy in the evening. It's a lovely old building, and has kept its charm, highly recommended.
Comfortable & for budget traveler”
The room was on the small side but the bathroom was nice and big. It's got a nice feel to it, very old heritage style. However, our room was just above some bars downstairs and the noise in the night was a bit of a nuisance. Found 3 bed bugs on the 1st night. Overall it is an ok hotel to stay if you are on a budget and I will consider coming back to stay again. The people in Cairns are really friendly.
Good location with air condition”
Good locaition with air condition. But the internet is not for free and after check-out, cost money to leave the buggage there. About 4-6 dollars. The stuff is friendly but at midnight there are some noisy young people sreaming at the street.
Very helpful reception. Room very clean and neat.”
we stayed in an en-suite room which was spacious and had been recently decorated. it was fairly simple but as the price was very cheap and the continental breakfast included i was very impressed. the reception staff were very helpful and allowed me to leave the car in the garage until 5.30pm on the day of departure. i would definitely stay there again.
Very central and affordable”
clean comfortable but your above a pub and can get extremely noisy around midnight to 2am. Then 8am you'll here blower vacs going as they clean up outside
Room was very spacious and shared bathroom was spotless clean!
Was not happy with the parking arrangements $10 extra on opur account and only informed at reception - also surcharge on credit card - never had this happen before - room was clean but was not happy with shared bathroom
good budget place for a quick stay”
we were only there for 1 night each time(before and after a great barrier reef tour), each time we got upgraded to private room (or all rooms are private i can't remember but i saw some reviews of shared bathroom). it's clean and nice for a old place, and the location is very convenient for going to the marina. could stay again if visiting great barrier reef again
value is just location and terrible noisy”
The location is exactly in CBD in Cairns city ,awesome that is close to a supermarket, and heaps shops. staff is not too bad, alright. room is kinda acceptable, BUT its very noisy every night that there is a pub downstairs till 2 or 3 am. I think it depends where your room is,but almost visitor must not be able to sleep well.
Good location and service”
Very good location, clean and receptation service nice and friendly. Historic building, good value for budget accommodation. But a little noise for the weekends nights, I guess the central city hotels will all have this problem
Great location, simple but good breakfast, good rates”
At HIDES hotel, it is very well located, and all staffs here are very friendly. They include breakfast, which is light but good. The only issue is that the shower room had now hot water during my stay, however i am ok with it which some others might not be agreeing.
Third time unlucky”
Third stay at Hides. Previous two stays were good. Tried a Heritage room this last time (apparently an older room of the hotel), and disappointing night's sleep. Basically too close to the Shields (mall) side as I was on the balcony. Hotel (bar) cleaner below started using an air blower at 4:30am cleaning up after the night before (Sunday night of a long weekend), which was also fairly loud until late. Go a Superior room further inside the hotel. Much quieter. Breakfast as usual, can't complain. Location very central. Staff good. WiFi poor in rooms.
Great location, small niggles”
It's inexpensive but they charge for normally free things such as wifi (which did not work so they refunded my money), and there is an in-room safe but they charge you for the key. My room had frosted windows and the A/C was very weak. I changed to another hotel due to these irritations. However, breakfast on the veranda was simple but good although road works in the street directly below are noisy and look likely to be ongoing for a while
