Simple and okay
it's at the back alley behind the main streets. Do not feel very safe for solo lady in the night. But very nice and friendly staff.

Not worth for family visit
At Japan..the rules is very strict and there is no room for negotiate. For family to stay in this hotel is really not worth and is more expensive compare to normal 3 star hotels. We are also not inform that there will be charge if you check out late.

Awesome location and great value for money!
Location is key when going around Tokyo and this place is right in the heart of it. JR line is close (Yamanote line) and you can walk to Shinjuku in 15mins. The dorms were kept clean. I love that it has this homey vibe and not too modernized and not overly minimalist like most famous hostels in Tokyo. However, when I stayed, they only had a washer and no dryer so I had to use coin laundry service nearby the hostel. But over all, had a pleasant experience.

It was very quiet during the time I spent there. Staff was quite helpful. I was happy that the beds had curtains for privacy.

A pleasant hostel experience
My wife and I are newcomers to hostels, and this is only only our second time. The first was the previous 2 nights in Kyoto. Hikari House is about a 10-minute walk from the Shin-Okubo station on the Yamanote Line. You'll pass many Korean restaurants along the way. The ambiance at Hikari is rather casual, which we like. The staff do their best. The amenities are more than adequate. We particularly like the bathrooms because they are split into two spaces (a bathing area and a dressing area) which makes it more comfortable and private. We were in a private room on the first floor, which is close enough to the toilet to be able to hear the rather loud hand dryer when it's in use. It's a minor issue but I'm surprised there isn't a quieter alternative. A couple of families with kids on our floor were noisy when they just got in and when they were getting ready to go out, but we felt that this was par for the course when staying in hostels, and the loud conversation and children running around didn't last too long. Overall, a good choice for a short stay at a convenient location.
