      Nice place to relax”
We stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed the place. It has a lot of British charm to it. While the house is really old, the owners have managed to keep it well, so staying here is a real pleasure.

      Quaint little cottage”
It really is a cottage and it's lovely. A bit hard to find at first but very welcoming hosts who were really helpful. We went on a tour very early in the morning and they prepared a breakfast for us. Lovely garden and in a quiet location.

Lovely cottage in superb location ”
Lovely cottage very centally located, right next to Hill Club and Grand hotel. Very quiet however. Has a fantastic garden and views over surrounding hills. Interior needs a makeover, but its still good value for money spent.

A great cottage in Nuwara Eliya”
This cottage has such a great character. It's such a beautiful cottage inside and out. It is centrally located where you could walk to the town and also to the Victoria Park, and a 15mins walk to Gregory Lake. The only problem that we have is since the wall is so thin (I think), we were awoken one morning with a loud TV from our neighbor's room. I guess you shouldn't waste your time in bed while in Nuwara Eliya ;-)

Great stay with excellent staff ”
The manager waited for us to arrive past midnight. He and his staff checked us in promptly and carried our luggage into our rooms. The next evening, we enjoyed an evening with wine in the beautiful garden followed by a sumptuous curry dinner. Kudos to the team of Cottage Hill Given an opportunity, we shall gladly return.

      Beautiful exterior but over priced”
The building is beautiful and the outside is very well kept. Unfortunately the inside is a bit dated and the room was extremely cold, despite the hotel saying they have heating. We also had no hot water during our three days which was pretty disappointing for the price we paid.

      Good Staff...But Poor maintained proporety”
We booked last minute and were initially thrilled with the place looking at the lawns and the exterior. Our happiness was shortlived as the rooms were extremely cold. 2/3 rooms were still better maintained but dusty. Hot water would take ages to flow. One room was extremely cold with the heater blowing up at night. The fire place in 2 rooms were functional and the staff helped arrange a fire it at an additional cost. We were only given 1 towel per room initially but got additional ones later. The matteresses and pillows will give you a backache. We were later told that the "good rooms" were given to the owners guests. Breakfast was very basic. Service as across Sri Lanka was very courteous. The location is excellent but rather stay at the Grand Hotel next door. We wanted a "quaint" place which turned out to be a not to great experience.

Great location but overpriced and disappointing otherwise”
We stayed at the Hill Cottage for 1 night during our trip around Sri Lanka. The one thing that benefits this place is the location and its appearance from the outside - it is beautiful and an excellent location. However, inside, the place is very outdated. Breakfast is mediocre if not awful and worse, the place has rats! I personally saw a rat eating food in the kitchen during the day and then in the living room at night. There is a fire place in the living area and the bedrooms, but using the fireplace you will be charged Rs. 1000 each time - a bit pricey considering that you have already paid about USD 150 for a room with outdated and old furnishings. The staff were friendly and nice but were often difficult to find. I would only recommend this place for the location and its appearance from the outside and the lovely garden.

      Hill Cottage”
The Garden and the appearance of the bungalow from outside is charming. However, we found the inside, including the rooms, furniture and restrooms, a rundown. If you are looking for 5 star comfort, forget it. Food not great. Staff good. and good location.

      Horrible place ”
In fact this Hotel is a good location for an horror movies. staff of the Hotel show so much indifference. Most of the time the staff are completely disappeared from sight must strive to search for them. During my stay is not been cleaned the room and not once. breakfast is very bad and I don't think they provide any additional meal. Extremely quiet in the place gives intimation terrified. their were at that time one family in the hotel I think they're not real but they were a ghosts (just joke they look very nice family ).

      Value, but not the best”
Maybe our review is biased because we arrived at Nuwar Eliya on the New Year's festival day. The town was crowded, noisy and dirty. We stayed at Hill Cottage for three nights. Staffs were very nice and breakfast was good. The room (they called it "the best room") was spacious. However, it wasn't clean and not properly maintained. The furniture selection was odd. The hotel was very noisy at late night because other guests had a small party. It was an old cottage and the room door did not close properly so we heard a lot of noise from other rooms. The hotel located in the 10 min walking distance from the town center, but the road was very dark with high traffic.

      Hill Cottage Nuwara Eliya”
Very charming Cottage. The staff was extremly friendly and helpful. Unfortunately when we stayed they only served Continental breakfast but there are a couple of good Restaurants within Walking distance so that was not an issue. Would definitely recommend the Hill Cottage when staying in Nuwara Eliya.

      Needs Major Improvement”
The Hotel is located next to Hill Club Hotel. Golf Club and Town Centre. It is very convenient. The first impression was nice with its lovely garden and impressive Hill Club Hotel in the background. There was no one at the reception when I arrive. And when someone finally came out from their room beside the reception, it took them a long time to find my booking. The reception is nice and cosy but the ceiling sags from the weight of the light fitting. Looks like they do not realise that the light should be hung from the structure and not from a flimsy ceiling. It may just collapse soon. The room was next to the reception. I could hear the staffs talking and the cars immediately parked below my window. It was very disturbing. The room is spacious. It is a little old. It looks cleaned but the armchairs does't feel clean. They put a lot of effort to lay flowers on the bed and folded the towels into swan. It may look nice but impractical as it took me a while to remove all the flowers from the bed. The effort should be spend on maintaining the room, The wardrobe door cannot be closed and the bathroom door knob is broken beyond use. The staffs did not seem to know where they kept their menu. Took them a while to find it. Neither did they set the dining table nor know how to operate the TV in the dining room. Morning call was late. However, they did remember my takeaway breakfast. Overall, it was disappointing and definitely over price for the run down room and amenities.

      Overpriced but with potential”
Definitely the hotel is significantly overpriced. The quality of the room, its minimal and worn out furniture, the bathroom and extremely basic breakfast justify 30%-40% LOWER price. 100-120$ per night (including taxes) is way too much for what you offer. Clearly, the hotel has a lot of potential since the building and the garden in front of it are really nice. However, in order to take advantage of it, the rooms/bathrooms require extra investment and renovation (fix the ceilings, paint the walls (!), change these almost halogen ceiling lamps, add bed side tables with lamps, add bed benches, nicer chairs and install sunbeds/umbrellas in the garden. Once you do it, the price you charge will be entirely justified. Otherwise, you will continue irritating and disappointing your guests. The excellent location and the quality of staff will not compensate the gap between the price and the value you offer. Good luck.
