Unforgettable Experience ”
First the views are AMAZING. However the trek up to lodge is very scary and dangerous..The rooms also were very cold, maybe should add a heater of some sorts to the rooms. I must say it was all worth it for the experience. The staff and owner were extremely nice and helpful. They made delicious dinner and breakfast all included. They also arranged transport for any tours and departures. Thanks you to everyone at the Hill Safari Eco Lodge!

Truly away from it all! ”
Of all the places we visited in Sri Lanka, Hill Safari was certainly our favourite! We traveled to Hill Safari via car from Mirissa and as we entered the eucalyptus forest it began to rain. Needless to say, the last leg of the journey was pretty thrilling! As the clouds cleared and we peered down into the valley for the first time, we knew we'd arrived somewhere special. The peace of the Hill Safari estate is unparalleled. We spent our days hiking and our evenings with bellies full of hot, homemade food. The staff made us feel most welcome. Keep in mind it's pretty remote, and do remember to bring warm clothes and proper shoes as the nights are chilly. I would stay at Hill Safari again and again!

Unique Experience with a nice ambiance ”
We stayed a night at Hill Safari in early Feb. This is located at a unique, isolated location adjacent to Horton Plains but isn't difficult to get there if you follow the directions they provide. As I traveled with my family with 2 young kids, I needed to pay special attention to their meals and other needs. Despite the hotel being houseful, the staff was very helpful with a very positive attitude to take an extra step to cater our requirements. The food was good and they managed to cater requirements of each group separately. They even prepared the snack we wanted to pack up for our picnic by 9AM. The room we booked was an economy room (the cheapest available), but had all the necessities. They provided the heater on our request which was also very useful to keep the kids warm at night. The owner Mr. Eomal Perera and 3 of his staff have been very friendly & helpful throughout the stay although it was a short stay there. Overall it was a great experience and I would love to go back the

Amazing view!”
We loved Hill Safari! Staff was very friendly and had tons of information on local hikes, train rides, etc. There are lawn and table games for downtime. And the view is amazing!! Just as good as the view from World’s End but not as crowded. Our rooms were inside the old house, so no view from the room, but the large lawn to hang out in made up for that. The road in is twisty and narrow, but we were fine self-driving our minivan. I highly recommend Hill Safari for a visit to Horton Plains.

Stunning views, good hikes, helpful staff”
We have just spent 2 nights here in one of the superior rooms, which had a full length glass window and door looking out onto a beautiful view - you can see the Udawalawe reservoir way in the distance. The tuktuk drive from Ohiya railway station is an adventure in itself, as the road is very uneven - the driver certainly earned his 500 rupees. We were greeted by the owner Eomal and his staff, all very helpful, and we sat and had a welcome cup of tea. The room was simply furnished but modern, mossie net above the bed, extra blankets, and the shower provided plenty of hot water, which was much appreciated after a walk where we got totally drenched. Evening meal is included in the price, and was very tasty - fish curry one night, chicken the next, with at least 4 side dishes, and plenty more if required. The owner also gave us all a glass (for free) of his homemade date wine - sweet and like port - which was delicious. We were going to do the Worlds End walk, but the views around this place are so stunning, we decided to do a hike from the lodge to Idalgashinna railway station and back - 5 hours of beautiful varied terrain, and only saw 2 other hikers throughout! The next morning, we did a 3 hour hike around the area, through the tea plantations and occasional workers communities, before the clouds came rolling in. Eomal kindly let us use a room when we got back, to have a shower and repack all our gear, and have yet another cup of tea, before leaving for the railway station. You can get drinking water and order some packed lunches, but nothing else here, no Internet. This is a wonderful place to get away from the crowds, do some great hikes, see local tea workers.

Away from the crowds”
Great place to stay! Very calm and cool. We felt very welcomed after the hassle of the touristy places. Rooms are a bit damp depending on the weather outsite, but they are clean and well taken care off. We really liked the staff, who run the lodge: they prepare delicious meals and breakfasts with local ingredients and give great advice on trekking possibilities. We would have stayed longer!

Great views and near Horton Plains”
+ Charming and quaint little lodge located in a very remote part of the hills. + Nearer to get to Horton Plains from here (~30 min drive) than from Nuwara Eliya + Fantastic views + Friendly owner and staff - Superior Double Room was not very clean: There was a layer of dust on my bed cover, and other spots. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. - Water was hot for about 10 mins, then turned cold. As this location is atop a hill, it gets really windy and cold at night, so bathing in cold water here is not fun. - Driving to this place is not recommended as the road leading to it is in bad condition. However, the owner is currently doing roadworks to improve it.

Stunning view. Magical place. Don’t hesitate.”
Surrounded by tea plantations, breathtaking views, overlooking mountains and small community below. Truly outstanding. Only drawback is road to reach the lodge but don’t let that deter you. Tuk tuks do it no problem. Stayed one night: We wished we could have stayed longer.

Location location location. ”
This place is a bit hard to reach. Most people hikes there. The lodge does provide shuttle bus. But once your there, it scenery is totally worth it. Staff was extremely friendly. Definitely go with he full board or bald board as there is nothing around but beautiful nature. The only thing I wish it had was wifi or internet connection.

Stunning location in the hills near Horton Plains ”
The views from the lodge make it worth the effort to get there. The road is not as hairy as some make out. It’s certainly not dangerous. An ideal place for walkers or those wishing to visit Horton Plains

Remote location with spectacular view & hosts”
The rocky ride to the Lodge by tuk tuk is a white knuckle adventure, but the scenery from the property is breathtaking. Our welcome and service were exemplary and we enjoyed our stay very much. It is the perfect location to arrive into Horton Plains National Park for the early morning hike.

Very good location to go to Hortons' plains”
Our driver hard time to find the hotel as it is actually 45 km from Eliya village and quite remote in the mountains (2 hours drive from Eliya). However the hotel is very close to Horton's plains (20 min by car) so a perfect location for those who plan to do that trek. The view is as well very nice as the hotel is quite high on the mountains. The confort is very minimal, food is ok.

How we wished to stay longer”
This place is magical. After a long and difficult ride to get there, the view from the place blew all the tiredness and complaints from the road trip away. No Wifi, no music. Just magnificent view. The room is very basic but clean and comfortable. Don't forget to wear warm as it gets cold after sunset. The food prepared by the staff was simple but excellent. Due to our schedule we stayed only for a night and wished we could stay longer.

Great base for hiking a couple of days around Ohiya”
We stayed in the older twin room which is a bit drab but adequate for a couple of days. Great that hot water works well as it's cold. The staff are very helpful and speak English well, as well as good cooks who do tasty meals. And drinking water is provided. There's some good walks around to view the tea plantations, tea-pickers and village life. We just walked to and back from Entrance gate of Horton Plains NP without going in, the views are just as nice along the hike. Recommended for those wanting to do great hiking and/or sweet stay in the nicer/pricier new doubles room. Note it's nowhere to any shop so bring your own supplies of snacks, fruits etc.

Beautiful view and great location for the worlds end trail”
This is an excellent choice if you plan on doing the worlds end trail. Convenient for an early morning start and the staff can help arrange a tuk tuk service to go to the beginning of the hiking trail and to the train station Ohiya. Remote and peaceful and calm, surrounding areas nice to walk around and the place was clean and well designed. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and I enjoyed my stay there. The staff were friendly and helpful and I stayed at the top floor with a balcony that had big windows to see all around views.

great place to visit hotton ”
The room and the view were great, very close to Hotton, however it took us really long to reach the place. Super for a relaxing stay. Better to come by daylight so the way to the hotel from the mountains isn't too stressful.
