Awesome place with great hosts”
Really awesome place and the owners are lovely. Genuinely took care of us. Had a beautiful dog called buddy who took us to the park. Very peaceful and away from all the main town noise.

Nice for a few days away from town”
I stayed at Nature Lifestyle Lodge for 2 nights and that was the perfect amount of time for me. It’s a 30 minute drive from Luang Prabang up a dirt road, and is perfect for spending a few days lounging by the lovely pool, reading books and not doing much of anything besides some self guided walks in nature. When I was there, wifi was very hit or miss and available in the main building and a little by the pool. One note with regards to the attached bungalows: I don’t know if it’s that they’re thin walled or something else about the architecture, but I could literally hear every sound from my neighbor’s bungalow just as loud as if they were in my room. The lodge does provide ear plugs, I’m assuming for that reason.

Out in the mountains, quiet and beautiful. Great staff, delicious food from their own gardens... Away from downtown. It is a magical little escape from chaotic, full days of travel or work :)

The nature around was stunning for someone who wanted to relax. But it was not mentioned that the hotel was 30 minutes away from the city, in dusty and very bad road. Also it was too cold when we arrived with no heat in the rooms.

Wonderful place, wished that we stayed longer”
My wife and I arrived to a very wet and cold 27 Dec 2017. As Holger, the owner, drove us to Hillside through uneven roads, I could not help but have feelings of trepidation. But day one was just that, day one. The remaining three days were excellent. Though relatively far from town, we were shuttled to and from town for only USD2 per pax. Dining at Hillside was also enjoyable. Although it was located far from competitors, meals were good and pricing was reasonable. Hillside also provides the best USD to KIP exchange rate. We searched the whole of Luang Prabang and nobody could beat Hillside. Special thanks to Louis Duchatteau. He connected us to 3rd party transportation providers so we didn't get ripped off by the more well known tour operators there. Only regret is that we could not spend one more day there. Would have loved to trekked the area with Buddy, the 'rock star' guide dog. And yes, the photos of the beautiful surrounding mountains are REAL. Would love to come back again!

Excellent location and service- away from it all”
This is a very special place and our family, including two young sons ages 6 and 9,loved it. It is in a spectacularly beautiful location and a mere 1km from a private park (Nahm Dong) with a fabulous restaurant, trails, and kids’ activities such as painting and zip lining. Louie is manager of Hillside and shifts easily between English, Dutch, French and Lao to meet any and all requests with a smile. We stayed a wonderful 5.5 days and only went into town once and had plenty to do at the lodge. A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy nature. Buddy their dog added to our memorable experience. Two areas that could be improved upon: food is so-so with portion sizes on the light side. Typical of Asia, Showers are not in dedicated area and in middle of bathroom so impossible to use without wetting the whole bathroom up. We were lightly showered on this trip.:)

An absolutely wonderful stay. ”
This place is a slice of paradise. The property is absolutely beautiful and the nearby waterfall is lovely. The owners really make your stay nice and the food is great too. Be sure to try the green curry and ask for a steam bath near the pool:) Of course, I would say go here if your goal is to get out off the beaten path. There are much closer properties to LP city, but this is a highly recommended stop if you are in the area.

Fabulous location but greedy pricing.”
Beautiful setting - although grounds need tending and in general the place needs more staff. Louis does a fantastic job but really is doing everything - welcoming, looking after everybody’s wishes, taking orders and running the bar...worth his weight in gold. I admire the hard work and achievement of the owner but for the ‘shabby chic (chic the rooms are not)’ ambience the price really should be 15-20% lower. Is it really ok to charge $1.50 for a tin of tonic? Or $4 each way for shuttle into town? I don’t think so. Just looks greedy. I wish the place well but feel it needs to grow beyond the confines of the owner trying to do it all - by having a larger vision and forking out for it to be staffed properly.

Amazing hideaway in the mountains”
Very highly recommend. The resort is tucked back and very chill. The staff is very friendly and accommodations are very comfortable. You do not need to go to the city if you stay here - spend your time trekking around the area and nearby waterfalls.

WOW! WOW! WOW!”
What a beautifully amazing resort run by the ***coolest*** family ever!!! This is the absolute best time my wife and I have ever had staying in the company of others . (No hyperbole.) Great food, a lively, yet subdued atmosphere, insanely wonderful service, and some of the most charming human beings you will ever meet. We'll be back soon!!!

Not the Hilton”
If you expect the Hilton this is not it, it is back to nature in many ways. But take a while to get used to it and you will enjoy your stay. Language difficulties can cause problems and many times the restaurant turned into Fawlty Towers. I still laugh six months later. I will go back one day

Nature and peaceful times”
Lovely place. Close to nature and with the large garden/park nearby it is a very pleasant place to spend some time. A good distance from the town so you really do let go here. Our kids 2&3 loved the pool, the animals, cats and ponies! Very pretty place to stay for a few days.

The resort is located 12km from Luang Prabang on a bumpy road in an idilic location. There are many trekking options in the area and also local villages to visit. The location is amazing for a scape but I wouldn't recommend if your purpose is to visit Luang Prabang. Anyway, the resort offers shuttle service twice per day for 4usd/person/way. The swimming pool is great, same as the common facilities. The staff are very polite and nice and the resort is very well managed. I found the rooms a little bit small for the price and needing of some touches like a better shower, larger desk and bed tables on both sides, but in general it was very good, they just need to keep up the good work and management. The restaurant offers good quality food with reasonable prices. They are higher than the average but there is nothing around! The salads are great. In general, a fantastic retreat if your aim is to relax and observe the amazing landscape outside Luang Prabang!

Nice location but some things for improvement”
I was so looking forward to my time here, and I really wanted to give this place a 5-star rating, but it's not possible. The pro's: nice location, some great walks to local villages and waterfall (which had no water this time of year), pool was lovely and relaxing on a hot day, bungalows were quiet, private and quaint, relaxed atmosphere. The cons: the rooms (especially bathroom) could do with some love, the relaxed atmosphere was at times a bit 'too' relaxed for the price, only the manager spoke english so it wasn't possible to interact with other staff - even to order food. All in all Hillside was fine, but thought it a bit expensive for what it was. It's possible to experience other rural parts of Laos in more beautiful and authentic settings for a lot less cost. But if you're looking for a rural place to escape the city of Luang Prabang for a few days, this might be ok for you.

A nice getaway ”
If you're looking for a quiet place to relax, this is the place to be. It's about 30 min from the city so do not expect to be going back and forth a lot. I spent 2 nights here which was perfect way to relax from all the traveling. Pierre speaks perfect English which was great. The only thing is that there is no restaurants in the area so you have to eat at the hotel which was fine. There a different hiking spots around there to waterfalls but I went during dry season so we didn't see any. This has been my favorite part. If I could do it over, I would spend at least 3 nights in the city and 3 nights at Hillside.

A very warm welcome and every assistance given to help us enjoy our stay.”
We booked this hotel so that we could spend a few days living and walking in the surrounding jungle and see some of the local villages. We had read that it was not easy to get there since taxi drivers in Luang Prabang often cannot find it. Therefore we arranged for the owner to collect us from our hotel in Luang Prabang town centre. We loved the location, completely away from the hustle and bustle of the town. We were given an exceptionally warm welcome and service second to none by Pietre the French Manager of the resort from when we first arrived until the time we left. If you are used to luxury and prefer sitting around a pool sunbathing then this is probably not the place for you but if you like a bit of walking activity then this is the place. My husband and I went for several walks. We went to the hidden waterfall and saw the organic produce raised there and then sampled it at the end of our walk in the little outdoor cafe there. We thought this was a lovely place and something that most local people seemed to have a hand in running which clearly provided jobs for the local economy which is good. The people were so friendly to us the only 2 Europeans eating in their cafe. The centre has not been opened long but is well worth a visit. Our second walk took us in the opposite direction from Hillside to other waterfalls. This walk is not for the faint hearted, (Pietre gave us his maochete to cut back foliage should we need to). We also had a way marked map again supplied by Pietre . The jungle grows quickly but thankfully my husband has a sense of direction like that of a homing pigeon. and although there is a cafe close to one of the two, there was no cook or chef and the only refreshements were either bottled water or bottled beer from a ' run down' fridge. Essentially we thought the restaurant was permanently closed down as there was nothing to show that it was open at any time. Our other walks were around local villages also from a way mar

Awesome getaway from stress ”
The resort is very nice, 12 km approx from town. The facilities are ok, nice swimming pool and great staff, always doing their best to make us feel comfortable. WiFi is only available at reception and is quite slow, and the food is average. Room is very clean, and the bathroom could be nicer.

The location is perfect for those wanting a complete break from the hustle and bustle. Set in rural Laos, 20/25 minute drive from Luang Prabang. A handful of local treks ; waterfalls, local villages and and farms . Food was excellent. Will be back!
