Supurb Hospitality and Stunning Ambience.”
This slow drive from Luang Prabang gives a perfect opportunity to appreciate the emerging Laos village life and amazing mountains before you arrive at Hillside Lodge. Maddie was an extremely welcoming and sensitive hostess. A fine balance between attentive hospitality, support with activity options and respect for quiet retreat. The organic food and drink options, remarkable natural ambience, fantastic pool and gazebo, clean and comfortable bungalow all made for a highly recommended, relaxing and nourishing holiday experience. My stay was too short but I departed feeling re-charged and respectful of their echo-friendly focus and ability to individualise hospitality. I will certainly return and look forward to a poolside massage and more of the fabulous organic food within the stunning natural environment of Hillside Lodge !!

Amazing little piece of paradise”
What an incredible hidden gem! We had no idea what awaited us on our journey up a long and windy road from Luang Prabang... PARADISE!!! An eco friendly nature lodge with its own vege garden, horses, chickens, a turkey and pet dogs too. Fabulous food in the restaurant and small enough to feel like home with an on site manager who made our stay unforgettable. There is also an amazing nature reserve a short 1km walk down the road where you can just enjoy the park or do zip lining and treetop walks amongst other activities on offer. Leave at least 2 days and 3 nights to experience all on offer... including the pool, herbal sauna and Lao massages by the pool 🙌

A peaceful, beautiful place with a wonderful staff!”
We had a a fantastic 3 night stay at the Hillside, and especially loved Maddie (the manager), who made our stay outstanding!! We enjoyed hiking through the lush countryside, swimming in the beautiful pool & indulging in the fabulous herbal steam room. The food was great as well, and we felt completely relaxed & rejuvenated at the end of our stay.. All in all, it was everything we had hoped for; a respite from the busy town-life of Luang Prabang, & a glimpse of the true, natural rural life of Laos.

Paradise”
Truly a wonderful spot! Although off the beaten path and away from the activity of LP (where we spent the first three days), Hillside offers a quiet and serene getaway. A lovely pool, nice hikes, and great food. Louis was a great help with advice, information, and recommendations. He is a great asset to Hillside ( and wowed us with his multiple language capabilities!) The rooms were lovely and offered plenty of room and peace. Would definitely return.

Relaxing environment”
Myself and my daughter stayed at Hillside for 2 nights. We wished we had longer. It’s a lovely setting, beautifully maintained, with helpful, friendly staff. It was a calm, relaxing stay with places nearby to see and hike. Hope to go again.

Beautiful, serene place in the misty mountains”
The scenery at Hillside is like out of a Tolkien novel - beautiful misty mountains amidst dense jungle. As someone who spends lots of time in the Green Mountains of Vermont, I was still thoroughly impressed with the nature. We did a few side trips to Nham Duong Park for ziplining, mulberry paper making and to Kunag Si Waterfalls and the buffalo cheese farm - I highly recommend both side trips. The food at Hillside was also very good - especially their Saffron coffee and fresh bread! Both the GM and owner were very hospitable and kind to our family. I highly recommend as a trip to get out of Luang Prabang town and seek out nature!

Very good”
A big thank you to Maddie who runs the place! She’s very supportive and always happy to have a chat. You can go for a hike, there are good maps available and Maddie will explain the best options. Buddy, the lodge’s dog, will be excited to accompany you. The hotel is located in the mountains, 30 minutes to Luang Prabang via a quite bumpy road - if you love nature, great; if you want to explore the the town, you should chose a hotel in the center. The main house and pool are nice, the rooms are a bit old and a renovation would be good. Overall, good experience for a few days if you stay downtown for the rest of your stay, maybe a little expensive for what you get compared to the hotels in the center.

Great retreat in the mountains outside of LP”
I stayed in Hillside Resort with a couple of friends during Chinese New Year and would totally recommend the place to everybody seeking a quiet, peaceful retreat nearby Luang Prabang without wanting to compromise on comfort and style. Hillside is a bit far off the city, but this is exactly what - at least in my opinion - makes this place so special. A Tuktuk from the city center is approximately 150.000 Kip. As we've been told, they usually are able to arrange a pick-up service with a Mini Van. It takes about 45 min to get to Hillside from the city center, so if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing in Luang Prabang, I would suggest to stay in a place nearby the city center and book a couple of nights in Hillside afterwards (to do some trekking, explore the small villages or simply enjoy the calm and quiet at their beautiful garden and pool). The German owner Holger, his French manager Sam, the French gardener Ben and a team of very attentative and super friendly locals managed to create a place that enables you to relax, enjoy the beautiful surroundings (forests, hills, small local villages, great view point only a half an hour walk away) and eat delicious local cuisine with organic ingredients (grown in their own organic garden). The rooms and restaurant are decorated in local style without compromising on Western luxuries. Attention to detail is what makes this place special (open ceiling bathroom, scented candles, ...). Hillside features an infiniti pool, a yoga hut, an (awesome) herbal sauna, table tennis, beachvolley ball field, and lots of other amenities. The only thing that we regretted after our 2 nights stay was to leave Hillside so soon. Great place to stay!!

Wonderful place, wished that we stayed longer”
My wife and I arrived to a very wet and cold 27 Dec 2017. As Holger, the owner, drove us to Hillside through uneven roads, I could not help but have feelings of trepidation. But day one was just that, day one. The remaining three days were excellent. Though relatively far from town, we were shuttled to and from town for only USD2 per pax. Dining at Hillside was also enjoyable. Although it was located far from competitors, meals were good and pricing was reasonable. Hillside also provides the best USD to KIP exchange rate. We searched the whole of Luang Prabang and nobody could beat Hillside. Special thanks to Louis Duchatteau. He connected us to 3rd party transportation providers so we didn't get ripped off by the more well known tour operators there. Only regret is that we could not spend one more day there. Would have loved to trekked the area with Buddy, the 'rock star' guide dog. And yes, the photos of the beautiful surrounding mountains are REAL. Would love to come back again!

Very nice owner couple!”
I stayed here for my last day in Luang Prabang with my mom. Hilgi, German owner was very thoughtful and nice and his wife is amazing too! (thank you Aloon!) Cute cats and dog (they will stay away from the restaurant if you ask the staff to do so) really allowed us to have extra healing time at the lodge. I would love to go back in dry season where I can swim without any rain. Rooms and furnitures are very classic and there is mosquito net in the room. The pick up service from the town is 2 times per day and I would strongly recommend this lodge in the nature for people who are done with busy city traveling.

Nice for a few days away from town”
I stayed at Nature Lifestyle Lodge for 2 nights and that was the perfect amount of time for me. It’s a 30 minute drive from Luang Prabang up a dirt road, and is perfect for spending a few days lounging by the lovely pool, reading books and not doing much of anything besides some self guided walks in nature. When I was there, wifi was very hit or miss and available in the main building and a little by the pool. One note with regards to the attached bungalows: I don’t know if it’s that they’re thin walled or something else about the architecture, but I could literally hear every sound from my neighbor’s bungalow just as loud as if they were in my room. The lodge does provide ear plugs, I’m assuming for that reason.

Excellent”
The resort is located 12km from Luang Prabang on a bumpy road in an idilic location. There are many trekking options in the area and also local villages to visit. The location is amazing for a scape but I wouldn't recommend if your purpose is to visit Luang Prabang. Anyway, the resort offers shuttle service twice per day for 4usd/person/way. The swimming pool is great, same as the common facilities. The staff are very polite and nice and the resort is very well managed. I found the rooms a little bit small for the price and needing of some touches like a better shower, larger desk and bed tables on both sides, but in general it was very good, they just need to keep up the good work and management. The restaurant offers good quality food with reasonable prices. They are higher than the average but there is nothing around! The salads are great. In general, a fantastic retreat if your aim is to relax and observe the amazing landscape outside Luang Prabang!

Came for three nights, stayed for six”
The Hillside was one of the last stops on our one month journey through SE Asia. We had been on the go quite a bit beforehand, and when we arrived and saw the beautiful landscape, met the friendly staff, and jumped in the infinity pool, it was our first time on our trip we truly were able to let go and relax. SO much that we opted to stay an additional four days/three nights. I would highly recommend the resort to anyone traveling to Laos. It is close to Luang Prabang but with its tranquil atmosphere feels much further. Holger, our host, is genteel, helpful, and encourages his guests to really relax. Thank you all for such a delightful experience. We will surely be back!

A very warm welcome and every assistance given to help us enjoy our stay.”
We booked this hotel so that we could spend a few days living and walking in the surrounding jungle and see some of the local villages. We had read that it was not easy to get there since taxi drivers in Luang Prabang often cannot find it. Therefore we arranged for the owner to collect us from our hotel in Luang Prabang town centre. We loved the location, completely away from the hustle and bustle of the town. We were given an exceptionally warm welcome and service second to none by Pietre the French Manager of the resort from when we first arrived until the time we left. If you are used to luxury and prefer sitting around a pool sunbathing then this is probably not the place for you but if you like a bit of walking activity then this is the place. My husband and I went for several walks. We went to the hidden waterfall and saw the organic produce raised there and then sampled it at the end of our walk in the little outdoor cafe there. We thought this was a lovely place and something that most local people seemed to have a hand in running which clearly provided jobs for the local economy which is good. The people were so friendly to us the only 2 Europeans eating in their cafe. The centre has not been opened long but is well worth a visit. Our second walk took us in the opposite direction from Hillside to other waterfalls. This walk is not for the faint hearted, (Pietre gave us his maochete to cut back foliage should we need to). We also had a way marked map again supplied by Pietre . The jungle grows quickly but thankfully my husband has a sense of direction like that of a homing pigeon. and although there is a cafe close to one of the two, there was no cook or chef and the only refreshements were either bottled water or bottled beer from a ' run down' fridge. Essentially we thought the restaurant was permanently closed down as there was nothing to show that it was open at any time. Our other walks were around local villages also from a way mar

Wonderful location, in the jungle, with very good facilities”
We stayed 5 days at this lovely place. It is half hour from Luang Prabang. With the shuttle service it is easy to go to town. The location is perfect. The pool is great, the stafff very friendly and the food is very good. Hillside offers a map with all kind of (half)day trekkings you can do, or only 1-2 hours. It is difficult to find something negative about this resort. One thing...the walls are little thin, it makes it little noisy.

Calm and beautiful place”
This new hotel is located at 30 mins from Luang Prabang in a very nice quiet place. It is a place to relax, enjoy swimming pool and enjoy nature. Owners are really nice, friendly and helpful. The bungalows are beautiful and spacious. The restaurant is good and the view is amazing I highly recommend this hotel if you looking for calm and nature.
