No one told us that this hotel is in the midst of some mega makeover - so ended up in a complete mess with huge heap of construction material tagged by workers with paint sprayed on their bodies all around! Terrible experience.

Building site”
Whilst this has been and quite possibly will be a very good hotel in a great location, it was let down badly due to the fact that it is undergoing refurbishment. I wasn't made aware of this when I booked, nor was I helped by staff in this regard. The lifts (when I was able to find them) weren't in full working order and I constantly had to run the gauntlet of groups of overall clad foreign workmen. I shouldn't have paid this amount of money for this type of experience. It should have been heavily discounted.

hotel not finished ”
We stayed here for the night on the 10th of July. When we arrived at the hotel we realised it was being renovated but when I booked I did not realise this, if I had known I could have booked elsewhere. We were informed by staff that there was no spa or pool and hadn't been for the last 3 months.The pool/spa being the reason l booked. Didn't book breakfast as thought £45 was a lot for this. We were on the 5th floor and as there was a large quew for the lift we used the stairs, when using the lift again we couldn't get in as work men went into the lift. Lift was still coverd with cardboard and tape, the walls were still getting painted and papered. The bar still hand been finish, there was still a lot of unfinished work going on.The place had workers equipment laying around. It wasn't the best feeling being in the middle of what felt like a building site. When finished I am sure the hotel will be lovely and look like how it is advertised on the website. However if having the choice I wouldn't have booked the hotel at this time.

Great location”
The Carlton hotel is in a great position to access all the city sites. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a good variety. I would recomend this hotel to others.

Hotel is literally under construction - which made for a dusty, noisy, and grim stay. Perhaps when it is fixed, it will be lovely, but for now AVOID

An underestimated hotel”
The hotel is very well located - 3 min walk from Edinburgh Waverley - walking distance to various tourism sights. The hotel is quite clean and neat and is the most spacious one I've ever stayed in the UK comparing with other five stars owing to its newly refurbishment. The staff are kind and helpful as well. The only issue is also about its refurbishment - lobby is closed at the moment and exterior construction undergoing - but expected to finish in two weeks. Very good value for money if you want to stay at a high standard, convenient and welcomed hotel.
