Home away from home”
himalaya residence sits in a compound surrounded by condominiums. it's just a 2-story hostel with nepalese/tibetan decors. since i arrived late at night, the owner was gracious enough to welcome me. my room was big for a single occupant. the bed was comfy and the pillows were fluffy. the wooden floor was clean and shiny. the bathroom has running hot and cold shower. standard amenities were in the room, including a fridge with bottled water. there are only 7 channels on tv (2 local / nhk / lotus macau / german / french / asian news) but it's ok. i only get to watch tv when i get back from school and shopping. breakfast consists of 2 slices of toast, jam, butter, eggs and a choice of coffee or tea. try their masala tea ... it's totally different from the other teas that i have tasted. towels were provided and changed everyday. they have a very courteous staff. they will give you information on how and where to go and even tell you how much you are going to pay the motorcab drivers or taxi. the hostel is secure and the moment you enter it's facility, it's like you're home. it is warm and cozy. they have a ready smile when they see you coming. i would totally recommend this place to my friends and i will definitely come back to himalaya residence again and again :-)
Spent 2 nights at the Himalaya residence (I was looking for a simple, inexpensive and conveniently-located room to spend the weekend in Bangkok), and I really appreciated how staff welcomed me as a family member more than a guest. I got plenty of support to organize my stay, took advantage of the huge room to do some yoga, and just regret I didn’t have a chance to try the restaurant, which looked really nice. To those interested, Simple., the cafe facing Himalaya residence, serves delicious food for lunch. Thanks again to all Himalaya team, and hope to come back some day.
Budget and Staff Friendly Hotel”
If you're on a tight budget, then Himalaya Residence is the place for you. We stayed in the triple-sharing room but it had the basic amenities including a small refrigerator, water heater wifi access. It was clean and comfortable. The owners and staff were very friendly and accommodating. We booked almost all of our tours through them and they packed our complimentary breakfast because we had to leave early for the tours. During the last day of our stay, we checked out at 11:00am but they kept pur luggage on a safe place while we went shopping. When we came back for our luggage, they even let us take a shower in their office before heading to the airport even though we have already checked out!
Nothin' could be fina!”
Stop looking for anyplace else in Bangkok. The rooms are big and clean. The Himalayan food is the best in the region. The ONLY drawback is the walk to Sukhumvit, but for someone young and healthy, that is not at all a problem. For breakfast, the night before, ask for rice soup. It's not Thai "khaothom." It is a taste of heaven, as is everything on the regular menu. All praise to Assajita, the manager, for creating the perfect resting spot in a crazy city.
Good for the price”
this place is probably best for people who want a kind of a backpacker vibe in the sukhumvit area, but it's suitable for anyone on a budget. there's a distinct nepalese flavour to it. the breakfast was basic, but you can't expect more for the price. some people complain about the location, but it's not too bad if you check the location on the map. there are two entrances, but the easiest way is to go straight to the end of soi 31, right to the end without turning. veer to the left at the end and you'll see the gate.
Comfortable, quiet and relaxing.”
The hotel was fairly empty when we arrived so we found it quiet and relaxing after bustling days in Bangkok sight seeing and shopping. Initially it was difficult to find, but we were late arriving due to a delayed bus journey. We found it easy to find on return on the second day. The staff were friendly and chatty. They had held a special Nepalese ceremony there the days prior to our arrival so there were beautiful flowers and decorations around and even an inspiring photography exhibition of Nepalese life in the foyer. A welcoming and calm place to rest and quiet although close to the busy, everflowing streets of Bangkok.
Simple large and great for the money”
Pros- clean, enormous room, enormous balcony can fit 7 people or 5 extremely comfortably, great staff but lottle to no english wllingness to help, great restaurant, 7/11 20 metres away 45 seconds walk, super secure but will have trouble entering if security not there to open gate at night, a/c, fridge Cons- its abit old but you get what you pay for No doona had to adk for one, slept first night using a towel as cover, a bit far from sukhumvit road Overall great stay as i just landed and didnt need anything fancy to sleep off the jet lag for two days, but the size of room and balcony easy access to 7/11 and restaurant downstairs and some fancy coffe shop directly across about 10 metres away made it an overall hreat stay. Alot street food around less than 5 minutes walk
The hotel is in a good location of Sukhumvit, but at the end of the ally. So getting any transport is bit hard. But other than that, the hotel itself is really nice for its interior and the rooms are really huge. Nepalese style interior and more likely to be at home.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff”
Friendly staff, with excellent English (from Nepal). Good room, comfortable bed. Close to Sukhumvit metro station and a Skytrain station. Nice breakfast. Only setback is that the hotel is quite hard to find, so best to arrive in daylight!
friendly staff, quite far from train station”
Finding this place really requires a lot of patience. From Sukhumvit station, walk along sukhumvit road till you see soi 31 and turn left. Once you turn left, walk all the way straight till u reach a T-junction, turn left and then right into the gates. Someone will welcome you for sure :) The room is really big for the kind of price we paid. One bottle per guest per day was a good policy too! breakfast was simple toast with butter or some orange jam. You may request for omelette too ;) Other than the fact that the staff were really friendly and could speak some english, I highly doubt I would be back due to it's location. 30 minutes walk just to go out/in each time is just really tiring with everything that you're carrying :(
Pleasant but distant”
We arrived in Bangkok about 9.30pm one evening and on whim decided to book a hotel in the centre town. We went off the soi number sukhmvit soi 31) and the fact that is was very affordable (backpacker rates). actually it is such a long way away from sukhumvit - not their fault but be warned if you think you want to walk anywhere - not going to happen. we obviously arrived pretty late but the staff were very friendly (they were shocked that we arrived so late) but nonetheless helpful. We had slight desire to wander out for a sneaky beer - that aint going to happen at the himalya. We had a car, which was locked in the hotel compound, but literally i reckon it would take 20min or so to walk back to Suhkumvit. Yeah you could get some motorbikes or a cab coming back but not worth the trouble. The room was large with a decent sized bed and air-con. Bar fridge i think, not sure if i recall a tv. Overall pretty basic but surprisingly comfortable. For breakfast a choice of eggs and toast - simple but satisfying.
Awesome hotel love to visit again”
Hi all the experiece in himalya resedency was great , great staff, best food , rooms were very larg like a 4 star accomodation , internit facility was good , the main and the best part is the location and the resturant food is very nice .. little bit costly but worth it to pay ,, it would be the best stay for indians because hotel owner is nepali hindu, and the staff is also indian . and food maaa shah allaa was awesome .. i enjoyed my stay and in future will love to stay there again
True to its name the stay in this hotel was unique and rejuvenating to the mind and soul, I have rarely stayed in such a good home away from home. If you want to experience any of the above I have indicated this is the place to visit. This is a special hotel I will certainly come back without hesitation. It took me a while a find out the location of this hotel (took a 20 baht bike ride from a nearby train station) but you will not be disappointed with your stay.
run down building, gloomy creepy restaurant”
The room we got was more of an old residence room that is now being let out to the Himalaya. There are very few 'enhancements' to the room that would set it apart from a poor persons living quarters found anywhere else. The only thing that makes it feel like you are even part of a commercial Hotel sort of thing is that the room key has a card on it to put in the slot and get the power on in the room. The Bathroom was the most discussing part of the whole experience. Their "upkeep" is non-existent. The wooden doors on the sink cabinet were rotting off their hinges. We didn't dare try to open them to see what was inside! The ceiling was rotting away and sagging down with gaping holes everywhere. The shower head was terrible, more water shot out sideways than out the shower spray holes it is meant to. There was some big hole in the side of the bath that had been duct taped over. Lots of mould all over the tile grouting. The room was on the top floor, 4th, meaning a lot of stares to climb. It was large, but not in a nice way. It felt bare, like it was meant to have walls sectioning off rooms, but they had just been removed. The TV sitting over in the corner was from the dark ages, we didn't ever even turn it on. The fridge was just sitting over in a corner on it's own, tiny little box fridge. But it did keep things cool if you wanted to. The pillows were disgusting, we looked under the pillow cases, they were covered in brown stains, and one even had a really dark blotch which looked a lot like a blood stain. We went to a shopping centre and purchased our own new pillows.
Cozy and spacious room”
The room was vary spacious and cozy. The room has a bathtub, which was a big + for the price of the hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful. I'd like to stay here again.
Lovely hotel with a Nepalese ambience. ”
The set up is good and has a lot of Buddhist atmosphere and the whole ambience is good. I would like to return to this place whenever I get a chance to come back to Bangkok. I think for new visitor who want to visit Nepal then tis could be the starting point. Everything from food to bed has a Nepalese atmosphere.
Friendly, quiet location, large rooms but basic”
The atmosphere in the hotel restaurant is very nice, with all kinds of Nepalese furniture and decoration. The food is delicious! Though breakfast was disappointing. The rooms are very big (also good as family room) but basic.
Great room for the price”
overall good value accomodation room was large and clean and staff were friendly, would definately return next time in bangkok. Breakfast was very basic
Peaceful Perfect Place to stay as your home”
I came here with my friend and stayed 3night. First of all, we could find easily this resisdence by Google maps. Second of all, all the workers in there were so nice to us. Last but not least, except that the distance from the station is kinda far to walk, this resisdence is that "Have to Go". hot water is available on 24hours, clean bed and lots of window. clean tower, safe locker, dress hangers, everything was in this place. Even the morning meal was great. hot riich beautiful smell coffee and butter on the toast, warm omulet with curry taste. fresh fruit, yogurt... etc.
Friendly and helpful staff in a bad spot”
I want to give this place a poor review because of my stay, but I just can't bring myself to do it. They are currently constructing, so I was placed in one of the side rooms across the courtyard. it was dusty and in need of repairs. Inside the room was ok, but quiet. This place is apparently pretty nice in the main building, so if they tell you you will be across the courtyard, ask if they have something else available. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I arrived after 11pm because I could not find the place, and they made sure that I had a seat and relaxed before going on to my room. I think this place has potential to be really nice, give them a little bit of time to get their stuff together.
