    Comfortable, well-run, nice location”

Spacious suites, excellent service, good bedding, pool and outdoor area

have reviewed himawari previously but that was a year or more ago so here is an update. the location is out of the main tourist zone, quiet, right by the river, nice river views from many of the suites/rooms. agoda bookings seem to result in the less dramatic views but the suites are so good anyway how could you complain for the price? there are single room suites with small kitchenettes and a dining table, also one and two bedroom apartments if you are travelling with others. this is not a child-oriented hotel, nor is it a tourist fun palace. quite a few people live here fulltime. it is ideal for business people, older people and quiet people. the gym and pool are great for phnom penh - so many good hotels have no pool so it is something to be very grateful for. the breakfast has a lot of choices, a nod to chinese, japanese, indonesian and vietnamese and plenty of bacon and fresh cooked eggs to your order. cereals not so good, ran out of muesli on day 2 but you can enjoy plenty of fresh fruit and bakery items including baguettes, pastries and sometimes even dark rye bread. the hotel is increasingly being used for official meetings and evening parties but this usually is not annoying, however one day was given over to a very noisy event with awful loud singers and lots of kids. here are some small niggles: the saucepans in the kitchenette were the wrong size and one was completely unusable due to a deformed base which could not lie flat on the stovetop. there were no mugs for tea or coffee, only those really annoying small cups and saucer sets. the personal lighting on the bedside table was very dim - the lamps were ok but if you want to read in bed at night they could not be adjusted. the airconditioning seemed to get too cold and the level of airflow could not be adjusted down enough to make it comfortable to sit directly in it which made using the desk area almost impossible when it was on. small things but they undercut the otherwise high standards.

    Pleasant Stay”

    Room Size, location, friendly staff

Our stay at the Himawari Hotel was pleasant. Our vacation in Cambodia was split between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. We flew into Phnom Penh and spent the first two days of our 7 day vacation at the other Hotel on St. 57, then took the bus to Siem Reap (a 6 hour trip), stayed in a couple of different places during our stay there and then returned back to Phnom Penh via bus again for our return flight home. It was our last night in Phnom Penh that we stayed at the Himawari Hotel. I knew that we were going to be exhausted from our week-long adventure and wanted to stay at a hotel where I knew that the air conditioning worked, the room would be large and not have a claustrophobic feel to it and close to the river. The hotel did not disappoint me in these areas. If you stay at this hotel, the hotel waives the $7 per person admission fee on the riverboat cruise that is docked just outside the back of the hotel (you're still required to buy a drink or two though). My intension when I booked this hotel, was to spend our last evening eating dinner at the hotel restaurant and then take the riverboat cruise along the river to watch the sunset. However, by the time we arrived and this being our last night of our trip, we were exhausted from the heat and previous tours that we had taken and decided to take a tuk tuk (which the hotel called for us) to a pizza restaurant down the street. We ate our pizza, walked directly next store to grab an ice-cream cone for desert from Dairy Queen and then returned to the hotel to turn in early to bed since we had an early flight. The hotel reception was friendly and welcoming. We had requested and paid for an extra bed for our 12 yr. old son. The hotel did not have any record of us requesting an extra bed, we provided our agoda voucher as proof that we had paid for an extra bed and the check-in representative quickly updated their system and immediately arranged for an extra bed to be delivered to our room.

The Himwari is a great hotel”

Easily accessible to the City High Quality Rooms Excellent Internet Access Great service
It's really hard to pick anything bad, except they could have more choice of english channels on the TV, however, I didn't come here to watch TV in Phnom Penh!

We found the Himwari on Agoda. We also checked out the location and wanted something close to river. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff. The check-in process was straight forward and in next to no time we were in our room. The apartment room was spacious, bathroom generous, storage for baggage was out of site, cupboard space excellent. We also had a view to the river which was an added bonus. Throughout our stay in Cambodia, the rest of party shared the same sentiments about the service provided at the Himawari and we all agreed it was an excellent hotel. If I'm coming to Phnom Penh again, I have no hesitations in staying at the Himawari.

    Nice Hotel in Handy Location”

Large room with kitchen Modern facilities Good location - some rooms with view of river Quiet Friendly staff Good complimentary breakfast Nice swimming pool
Air-conditioner was blowing over bed so had to use ceiling fan at night

The Himawari is a large modern apartment style hotel. We stayed in a suite with kitchen facilities, although in reality if you are in Phnom Penh on holiday you are more likely to eat out than cook in. The location is good and within walking distance to the waterfront restaurants and boulevard. It is on the waterfront although not all suites get a view of the river. The suites are large and there is a nice swimming pool. The complimentary breakfast was great. The staff were generally friendly. The hotel had good security and was not noisy at night. Our only complaint was that the air-conditioner unit blew onto the bed which meant we had to use the ceiling fan instead - which was OK.

    Excellent in most respects but...”

Size and arrangement of rooms, small but functional kitchen, comfortable beds, clean, well-organised, quiet

In almost all respects the Himawari is an outstanding place to stay in Phnom Penh if you like a quiet, sometimes soporific, environment. The location right on the river is a knockout, you can have evening cocktails and your dinner served while watching the life of the river passing by. The apartment arrangement with well-equipped small kitchen and full size fridge is fantastic. Rooms large, sliding doors to the outside world, calm environment at the quiet end of Sisowath Quay - all this was excellent. However there are some downsides. Wi-Fi access downstairs in the restaurant and public area is good but why no Wi-Fi in the rooms? While the Ethernet connection worked fine, it meant you could only work at the desk which was a nuisance. The electric plugs are the old heavy three prong English style ones. They provided a single converter but it was in such poor condition that my computer charger couldn't in the end get anything out of it. There were no other converter plugs supplied so could only ever charge one thing at a time. The food in the restaurant (and the same menu for room service) is only just adequate for the prices charged, not much variety and boring. The breakfast was also so-so (when compared to other top quality Phnom Penh hotels), things would run out fast and not be replaced, no boiled or scrambled eggs available unless ordered and that took ages, coffee not hot enough. But weakest point is the front desk staff who seem unsure what they are doing, can be quite brusque or even rude, don't seem quick to understand what they are being asked and are slow and uncertain if anything is other than totally straightforward. All other staff were helpful and kind especially in the restaurant, Fitness Centre etc. The Himawari is so close to being perfect - which it should be for the prices charged. Also, it is very quiet and not much fun for young folk, so if you want to party, go uptown.

    Himawari Hotel”

Nice location on the river. Washer/dryer in apartment. Well-equipped kitchen. Large apartment. Helpful concierge.
Very plain decor in apartment. A few pictures on the wall would have been nice. No wireless internet in room. You have to pay for internet in the business center. Rooms not made up until late in the day our first day there.

The Himawari is a business oriented hotel. It is pleasant, and the executive apartment we stayed in was quite spacious, but completely lacking in decor. A little effort would be appreciated. We liked having the full kitchen. It's great to be able to store extra water and juice in the fridge. The hotel location was fine, nice to be able to see the sun rise over the Mekong. Service was ok, except for our first day, when we returned to find the room had not been made up. For a business hotel, I was surprised to find that we didn't have a wireless internet connection in the room. Over all, a functional choice in Phnom Penh.

    Location, facilities

i know the himawari for many years, and i would still say that it is one of the best hotels in phnom penh. the location is great, at the confluence of 3 rivers, the facilities (like pool, gym, tennis ground) are excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. the rooms however tend to get a bit tired now after 7 years or so and need some renovation. the room sizes are very generous and satisfactory.

tropical feel with first class ammenities”

open floor plan, suites with balcony, hospitality, restaurant with view of the river, convienient location

We have stayed at a few of the high class hotels in Phnom Penh as we live here and stay at the local hotels now and then for a get-a-way. This one is my favorite for a few reasons. The suites make you feel like you have a home away from home. The balcony is perfect for morning breezes off the river. The open floor plan does not allow you to feel that you are in a typical hotel but more like a tropical resort. Welcome juice, along with welcome cocktail made our first few hours excellent. The weight room has all the most modern equipment and the locker room was lovely. The breakfast was delicious and the restaurant was bright and lovely with views of the river. I love the openness of the lobby giving it a tropical feel. The new cafe has a bookshop/coffee shop feel and was very comfortable with great books to check out for your stay. The only downfall was the pool. It was crowded and not very attractive. ALso the water was very warm so it was not refreshing. But overall, I will choose this resort over the others in Phnom Penh for our next getaway

After the hot, dusty environment in Siem Reap, it was great to finish off our holiday in Cambodia in real style at a reasonable price. It is hard to fault this hotel. The rooms were large and comfortable with great furnishings and an efficient air conditioner, and the staff were excellent. We enjoyed our meals at both the micro brewery and The Oyster Bar. Close to the Foreign Correspondents Club which is a great place to have a drink while watching the sunset over the river. Himawari haven”

Everyone is out to get your money in Phnom Penh, tuk tuk drivers very greedy. Stick to your guns and you will get your price. We had a lovely young man called Keo who took the price we offered whilst the other tuk tuk driver kept calling out the price he wanted, even as we were driving away with Keo. I know it is a poor country and we ended up giving the guy more than twice the agreed price; after all its only a few dollars to us but quite a lot to them, but it is the principle too. I struggled at the Russian market, outrageous prices compared to thailand and we had been there a matter of seconds when women beggars with children on hips started hitting us up for money. I said no but they wouldn't go. I ended up leaving and was followed all the way back to the tuk tuk. They made me feel guilty but you can't give to everyone. At central markets there were better prices and I only got humbugged once as we were leaving. Pon Loc restuarant has the most amazing Khmer food.

Great hotel, clean huge rooms, excellent location”

excellent service, near eno to tourist spots and yet far eno from the noise and bustle

We enjoyed our stay at the Himawari tremendously. We arrived on a pretty late flight but found the hotel staff warmly awaiting our arrival. When we went to our assigned room on a low floor, we casually mentioned that we'd have loved a room on a higher floor. Not thinking that our comment would have been taken seriously, we started to unpack. Shortly after, we received a call from front desk asking if we'd like to move to a room on the 4th floor (the hotel only has 5 floors). We were so delighted we didnt mind the packing again. Although our room was not river-facing, we were given a room facing the beautiful Hotel Cambodiana grounds next door. This is just one fine example of the wonderful service we received. Breakfast was delightful -- a full international spread, with free capuccino/latte served on request! The hotel's fitness facilities are very good -- a great way to relax after a tiring day out. The hotel's location is near the Royal Palace, National Museum, FCC, the Kandal (local) market and yet far away eno from the noise and bustle of the riverfront area where all the cafes, pubs, restaurants are. It's a pleasant stroll every evening along the riverfront -- the locals come out in droves to just sit around, exercise, play games, do aerobics. You can even join them in their aerobics -- they come all seriously prepared, with amplifiers and giant speakers to draw whoever wants to join them.

    Lovely hotel-Great staff”

Friendly helpful Staff - well equiped gym.

Turned up at this hotel to find that there was an issue with my booking. I had mistakenly booked the wrong month - Aug instead of Sept. Once the error was discovered (my mistake) the staff were quick to resolve it. Rather than keep me hanging around they checked me into the room and sorterd it out for me. This is a great hotel in Cambodia, well appointed with good facilities such a gym, business center. The restaurant has a very good selection of food for breakfast. The only negative about staying here is that it is located a bit away from the central Phnom Penh but only a 4 minute taxi ride away. Taxi should not cost any more that $1 - $2 US. The positives far outweigh that issue though.

    awesome location”

    loved the gym and pool

I was staying at the Himawari with my sister who was visiting her Grandson. A great feature of the Himawari is the location. situated on the Tonli Sap river which is a bonus if your lucky enough to get an apartment with a view of the river. Our room was spacious and very clean, the staff are lovely. The tuk tuk service was spot on, we had Sam Rithy who was on the ball. the breakfast was very nice but the evening was a little disappointing as far as celection. Not a lot of variety.

    holidaying at himawari”

beautifully appointed suite which was kept spotlessly clean by friendly hotel staff. breakfasts and lunches in the diningroom were delicious and surrounds very pleasant.
view from suite not that great, brick walls of adjacent buildings. pool area not that inviting. other guests stayed on computers for a long time and waiting was very frustating..

overall our stay at the himawari was very comfortable. the staff are very friendly and helpful. we loved the spacious suite and the decor. lunch in the dining room was a real treat, with several delicious dishes as well as desserts and drinks. our only disappointment was the pool area, as it is pretty bare and has no surrounding garden. the location is great and we were able to get to all amenities, shops, restaurants in a short tuk-tuk ride. many thanks to all the staff at himawari who made our stay so enjoyable.in.

    Absolutely beautiful hotel!”

Great view of either the city or river.

Very clean, lovely hotel, beautiful large room, with kitchenette. First room I got smelt of smoke and staff quickly moved me to a new one. View was fantastic. 15 minutes by tuk tuk to the Russian Market. Breakfast spread was the best I have ever seen. Only downside was that all services/food etc. were much much dearer than anywhere else in Phnom Penh. 1km down the boardwalk to lots of great restaurants and shops on the Quay.
