Simple Accommodation, Well Located”
I needed a short notice bed for the night and stumbled upon Hinode Ryokan on Agoda. If you are looking for luxury and modern conveniences then you will be disappointed: if you are excited by the prospect of a traditional Japanese lodge then you will be happy with your choice! Hinode Ryokan was completely beyond my previous experiences of Japan and I am so pleased I made the choice to stay here. The staff were exceptionally friendly and did all they could to make me feel comfortable and at home. The room is simple and traditionally Japanese: few mod cons but for me, on this occasion it didn’t matter. Located just 5 minutes walk from the station the hotel is easy to find and there are lots of bars and restaurants close by too. I’ve stayed in far more expensive hotels that have not been as good as this on the “total experience” front. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese place, reasonably priced, this might be for you.

Fantastic Traditional Ryokan”
We loved our stay at Hinode Ryokan. It is a beautiful 130 year old traditional Japanese Inn. A wonderful experience. Beautiful room with garden terrace. Lovely small onsen suitable for a couple or for one person. Free tea and coffee. Close to bus station and train station. Close to shops and restaurants. Very quiet location. Wonderful hosts. We felt very welcome. Yumi and Myhiro (hope the spelling is correct) were lovely and very helpful. I would highly recommend this Ryokan if you want a traditional Japanese experience. Thank you so much Hinode Ryokan our stay with you made us very happy.

Amazing stay at this beautiful Ryoken”
We loved our stay in the Hinode Ryoken - we think it is a must for tourists to experience the more traditional Japanese way of living. The owners were lovely, and the Ryoken has a lovely feel to it. The bath was a lovely extra touch, if you don't have time to go to an onsen the bath is a great alternative! The Ryoken is less than 10 min walk from Odawara and has lots of restaurants nearby. We would happily recommend the Hinode Ryoken to our friends and family.

Thank you for staying this time. Because it is a very old inn, we think that it felt a lot of inconvenience during the stay. We apologize for taking this opportunity. Please drop in if you have the opportunity. We look forward to seeing you again.
Great stay and experience.”
The ryokan is very well maintained with friendly staff and owner. Conveniently located a short walk away from the train station, shopping area and places to eat, it is also in a very nice a quiet neighborhood. Can also walk to Odawara castle nearby. And it's also a great place to start exploring Hakone. Just sad the ropeway was down during our short stay. But we enjoyed the scenery there all the same.

Odawara Hospitality at Its best!”
Location is very strategic to Odawara station; about 6-7 minutes walk and also to Odawara Castle where the Sakuras are in full bloom! Kireiii!! Quaint, sensitive but superb 100 year old ryokan. My only minus point was due to visitors who did not use the flush at the lavatory and the urine smell was terrible! This was not due to the hosts but the visitors’ menace. I love Mdm Yumi and Mr King Kong with their daughter and son. Very hospitable and friendly, remind you of your own family back home. Love the small tub as “mini onsen” too! Muslims can buy bread from any Family Mart/ Lawson or 7-ELEVEN but please use Google Translate as it helped us a lot as it’s not easy to find halal eating outlet nearby.

Very Comfortable stay.”
The experience of staying at this Ryokan is truly great. There are rules to staying at the place. At first, we were a little taken aback by the rules but the hospitality of the owners of the Ryokan made up for it big time. We also understood the reasons for the rules. We stayed there for three nights. My sons loved the fluffy quilts. There were Yukatas even for the kids. The hot water tub is more like a personal Onsen. The Ryokan is a short walk from the Odawara station. It is also very close to all the eateries and grocery stores.

I cannot say enough about this place!”
Armed with a dictionary and a few scant Japanese words from us, the hosts are brilliant and so, so lovely. Hinode Ryokan is a fabulous place to visit and stay. Warm welcomes, beautiful accommodation and great humour. Come here...if you can.

Excellent cheap ryokan”
The most beautiful and Pretty thing was the kindness of the owners. They tried with their bad english to explain you whatever you Can reach or visit near the ryokan. They always smile. It is not a real ryokan, Theresa is no anche onsen (this is the reason why is not expensive) but It's a typical house in Odawara. REALLY best to the station where You Can catch the train to go to the nearest lake. There are 2 onsen near the ryokan. In One of them they accept Aldo tattoed people.

Very nice and comfortable Ryokan”
The Ryokan is very near the Odawara station and Higashidori street (many restaurants and izakaya there). It is kinda old traditional Japanese home, very comfortable and classic. The owners are really helpful, friendly, and funny. But we cannot bring too big or heavy suitcase because the floor is made from old wood (can be scratched). Facilities are also enough, there is a traditional bathtub which is very unique. I want to stay there again when I visit Odawara again someday.

Very Good!”
We wanted to stay in a Ryokan and this was perfect. We were told it was over 100 yrs old so we understood the rules set when we checked-in. Hosts King Kong and Yumi were very friendly and offered tea when we arrived. Place is near Odawara Station and close to restaurants. Mattresses were confortable and we were provided our own yukata. We were able to bring our stuff in our room as we only had backpacks. Tv inside the room. Shoes are left just inside the entrance and they provide slippers to use inside. Can leave luggage if you come earlier than check-in time or if you already checked-out and still want to go around the area first, at no extra charge.

Nice and homely”
The couple running Hinode Ryokan speaks limited English but are kind and helpful, happy to give tips to travel around or where to eat. The room is basic and the shared bathrooms can get cold, but that's to be expected of a 100 year old ryokan. The stairs can get really squeaky though so light sleepers need to take note.

Unique experience! Quaint and lovely home that takes you back to the past!”
The ryokan was quite an experience! The owners were so warm and welcoming! Even though they did not speak much English, the owner King Kong kept making jokes and Yumi welcomed us with a cup of really good gencha tea when we checked in. They give you these cute traditional yukatas for sleeping, and slippers to wear inside the house. We had to leave our luggage in a room downstairs because they scratch the floor and ruin the tatami mats. We didn’t have a problem with it since we were only there for one night. We just took our change of clothes, and our toiletries with us to our bedroom. The washroom did have a hint of urine smell, but it’s something that can easily be overlooked. Actual ryokans (in the olden days) must have smelled worse. At least the washroom area was kept clean! The only thing we didn’t like was how the heater was on timer, so it turned off while we were sleeping, and we were freezing for the rest of the night. Remember to set the heater timer before you go to bed!

Too close to the train station!”
This is a fabulous Ryokan with excellent service and friendly staff. However we found it difficult to find a restful sleep due to the proximity of the Ryokan to the Odawara train station.

Amazing traditional Japanese experience”
The hosts were as kind as can be. The ryokan was beautiful, conveniently located to restaurants and the train, and gave us the traditional experience we wanted to have. It could be a culture shock for the stereotypical American tourist expecting a run of the mill hotel (shared bathroom, thin walls, small room), but I would urge those tourists to keep an open mind because we would go back in a heartbeat. So beautiful and over 100 years of business! Can't recommend this ryokan more highly.

Amazing traditional Ryokan!”
This ryokan is a must if you want to experience authentic japanese life and traditions. The owner King Kong and his daughter Yumi are the best host you can get! I will definitely come back here if I returned to Hakone!

Beautiful Ryokan at the Doorway of Hakone”
The ryokan is located a short walk from Odawarra station, so near the main line when arriving in/departing from the area. This means it's a few connecting links to get to the various sites in the area but that's all easily done from here. Its location suitability will depend on what your plans are. The ryokan itself is beautifully presented - beautiful wood. The staff only speak minimal (but enough) English and are exceptionally polite and as helpful as they can be. A restaurant was recommended to us - and that was fabulous, so take on board what you are hearing when you're there! You experience a real feeling of hospitality here. The only limitation is that being a traditional form of accommodation, showers and toilets are shared but that's a small price to pay for experiencing something so different.

nice hosts!”
the ryokan is very traditional and nicely decorated, a few minutes walk from odawara station (where you get of the shinkansen and other lines to get to hakone. we stayed the first night in a very small room but the nice hosts transferred us to a big family room once it was free (although we only paid for the double). the only bad think is the toilets don’t smell so great, as the facilities are old i guess.

Cosy and welcoming”
Loved it. Traditional Japanese Ryokan in an over 100 year old original building. Everything is quaint and the owners are so welcoming and friendly. I got my own room for a night at $35AUD, so cheap!! The only thing that I could fault is that smoking is allowed indoors, but that seems to be permitted everywhere in Japan. Other than that everything was lovely.
