Amazing view from the apartment, great for snorkel”

Low price, great view, great snorkelling

Hinwong apartments are very impressive. Our room number 2 had a terrace above the bay. It was incredible and as described on the website. Very clean and pleasant apartment. Food available at the restaurant from a very nice staff for reasonable prices. It was a little bit like a homestay because the restaurant is inside the house of a Thai family with kids, TV, laundry on the balcony, etc. So our kids could watch cartoons with the kids of the family and you could ask that they cook something else than the menu for your own kids which was really nice. The low sides of our stay : no internet for 2 days (fortunately it was fixed on the 3rd, but only at the reception, so still no internet in the apartment), no good English because the owner was away, so only basic communication with the staff and sometimes frustrating (especially about the internet not working), work was being done so you could have some noise at siesta time. But overall, it was much worth it because we had good snorkelling and canoeing which was the primary reason for coming here. You have a great sense of freedom and happiness looking at the sea from your apartment. Would highly recommend this place for people who want to snorkel before breakfast until sunset!

Heaven on earth, the perfect place to stay on Koh Tao”

Heaven on earth! This accommodation made mine and my partners trip to Koh Tao such an unforgettable and magical experience. We had been travelling Thailand for two months when we got here and were blown away by how beautiful Hinwong was. It was by far the best place we have stayed! We swam directly outside the apartments in the clearest waters everyday. You can see all kinds of fish and coral and as it's on the other other side of the island to the main resorts it's so quiet and secluded and makes it extra special. We woke up to watch the sunrise most mornings over the horizon from our balcony which was absolutely amazing. The food from their kitchen was unreal! So packed full of flavour and very authentic and they also catered to our dietary requirements. Yes, the road to the resort is quite hilly, but it is properly surfaced and good exercise if anything. Not a problem if you rent a scooter of course. We loved this place so much, we booked an extra night as we weren't ready to leave!

Perfect family location on Koh Tao ”

Stayed at Hin Wong in July and with winds from the west wanted to stay on the east of the island. Also well away from the noise of the towns. Picked up on time and taken over a very steep road to the resort. Pleased that the request we put on Agoda has been considered and kids had a single bed each. Our stay at Hin Wong was idealic. The snorkeling, having done a round island trip, is the best on the island. In July the bay is calm. The view from the rooms is fantastic. The food in the restaurant is godd and not overally priced. Clive, his wife and the team were brilliant and always very happy to help and give advice. As other reviews - if you don't like walking up and down steps this is not the accommodation for you, if that isn't an issue this place is wonderful and brilliant for a family wanting a quiet time and some snorkeling /swimming (the sea pool is great). The road over the top from the west is steep and 25 minutes of graft to get to satire of you walk, a taxi is available but would get expensive if used alot. We hired two bikes a moped and a 250cc off road bike. It's definitely safer on the bigger bike. The wifi, while the new road is being built, is pretty shocking but not the fault of this resort.

Amazing view and a nice and quiet day snorkeling!”

View, food, quietness

The hotel is located quite far from the Sairee beach and the main area of the island. We stayed here one night with a group of four girls. The Hin Wong Bay was a nice and quiet place to chill and take it easy. Only two restaurants with good food and chill atmosphere and only a few people! Our room had an amazing view to the bay and a nice small balcony! We had two double beds with own bathrooms in the same apartment. The pool was amazing with seawater in it and we had a great, relaxing day snorkeling in the bay! Snorkels were 50 baht per day with a 1000 baht deposit! Good place to stay if you want to get out of the busy and just relax!

Nice place in Koh Tao”

Location, calmness, facilities for cooking in the room

Me and my husband were in Hinwong Apart. during the New Year holidays (28/12/14-9/01/15). This hotel was choosen because of relatively low prise, nice location far away from crowded west coast of Koh Tao and possibilities to have nice snokling right at the hotel see shore. Really the last thing was impossible duruing several days bcs of windy wather, but then the water is calm you will have the best snockling in Koh Tao! (+) Nature is exellent, Water is very clear, no noise and crowded bars around the hotel? facilities to cook in the room. (-) This hotel located rater far from the main street, the taxi to this place have a high prise (200 bath for person to west coast, 500 bath from pier to the hotel). So if you have no possibility to go by feet to the west cost (were all shopes and the main things on island located), it would be better for you to choose another hotel. No shops, only 2 restrants at this place. The stuff seems to me very lasy and every time i asked them to clear the room.

perfect price-performance at beautiful hin wong bay”

the studio-apartments are just awesome! i´ve never had such a big "room" - with big terrace (where i even slept a few nights!) and outdoor kitchen. with sea view. wind - almost no mosquitos. hin wong bay is perfect for snorkeling! almost no diving-/tourist boats - only at the south end of the bay. nothing for a "family holiday". difficult to reach by scooter - need to hv some off-road driving experience but u can use the pick-up taxi from the village. the lady at the reception is really not the friendliest person. she seems desinterested every time. we didnt care cos we just needed the key. we ate outside / in our apartment all the time ;) room service only when you ask for it - they don´t come otherwise. perfect when you have a scooter and love snorkeling!

wonderful view from the hotel”

the view from the hotel is stunning beautiful and very peaceful, it's located far away from the main area (night life, market, convenient stores etc). the road to this hotel is quite dangerous as it's the broke concrete and dirt road to the east but they're improving it during my stay so I'm sure a few months after that it'll be easier to go there. after you arrive Hin Wong bay, you have to walk to the hotel, up and down for about 500 m. in the day time, my room was pretty hot as there was no a/c but that wasn't a big deal because I went outside. the owner and his clews were friendly, food in the restaurant was tasty too. if you love a peaceful, remote place and relaxing time, I highly recommend this place. you can jump in the water for snorkeling, underwater lives are abundant.

Hin Wong apartments are a couple of km from town. It's secluded in the most picturesque bay. If you love snorkeling just jump into the warm waters next to the salt water pool. The best anniversary we've celebrated yet. The food on offer here is great. Such a laid back place. The owner Clive always has a good yarn to entertain you. The sunrise is stunning. beatiful rooms, amazing view, relaxing environment

we really enjoyed staying at Hinwong, walk up a pathway to a secluded block of apartments in the forest looking out to the ocean. Really helpful and friendly staff, Dawn is so lovely and nothing is ever a problem. Lots of helpful info. Hinwong bay is on the opposite side of the island which means a short trip over the hill by car or a 30min walk. Dawn will take you anywhere you need to go and only a 100 B each way. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the towns. We will defiantly be back, thank you so much :)

Absolutely Fantastic!”

We were absolutely wowed by this property! Booked one night and stayed for 3! Completely built into the side of the cliffs and rocks, it is likesomething out of an M.C. Escher painting; this beautiful place is connected by a maze of staircases going in all directions, surrounded by jungle. The pool is epic! It's built into the surrounding boulders and fresh seawater is pumped in every morning. You can also swim right off their private little pier to snorkel around the bay. For an extremely affordable price we received a studio apartment with an enormous private balcony over looking the ocean, private bathroom, refrigerator, and even a sink and cooktop with dishes. The bedroom has a huge comfy bed and is enclosed by huge windows and doors that can be opened so the waves can sing you to sleep (mosquito net provided!) The family that runs the resort are hilarious, friendly, and helpful. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Taxi service is reasonable as well! They will help you book anything and give you great info on the island. I can't wait to come back!

All for the view, the sea, and nature”

I have been staying at this place for about 10 weeks since I am working remotely from an office in Koh Tao. The staff is helpful, friendly, and the food is great! It's a little far off from town, but if you're looking for a quiet beautiful place to stay, this is it. The apartments are clean, well maintained, and there's wifi available. If you're looking for fast connection just hop to the common area and you're good to go. They also rent out affordable new scooters in case you need to get one (which you will) and will treat you honest if you damage them (been there done that). All in all highly recommended.

Hinwong bay is beautiful, although an extra cost to get there, the beach is far nicer than at the pier. Snorkelling in the bay is excellent and swimming pool is placed on the edge of the ocean. Beautiful but very hard to reach”

Hotel was very beautiful and staff was nice and friendly but sincerely hotel is very far from center of Koh Tao and it cost 400-500 THB to get to the hotel. Staff can get you from hotel to center for 100-150 THB but it's expensive to get back. There is nothing but nature around hotel which is nice but if you want to explore center or visit some parties, this isn't the best choice, I had to leave after one night sincerely. Either there is no signal for dtac or others and Wi-fi in whole hotel isn't working very well so If you want to be in touch with your family, you can't in this hotel. If you don't mind these things, this hotel is very good for you.

Good Location If You Like A Secluded Place”

Snorkeling, Peacefulness, View

Booking in this place is per specific room. I received the room 2 hours late beyond the official check-in time, as the room wasn't ready. For the sake of honesty, I have to mention that I was offered by the staff to get a cheaper room and the difference would be paid back to me. In general, the staff were pleasant. The location is great if you want to relax in a quite environment. The snorkeling there was great and you can rent from there equipment for that purpose. They also have a cliff if you would like to attempt cliff diving. This is a hillside resort, so most of the time you will find yourself moving on stairs up and down. The road to access the place has to be the most vertical paved road I have ever had to drive in my life. However, if you think you are a good driver, to avoid paying the expensive taxi costs, a good option would be to rent a motorbike next to the pier upon arrival to Koh Tao. Too bad that there are barely any signs on the way directing you to the beach. My room was declared in the site as 70 sqm, however the balcony it had was two times bigger than the room itself. I would like to suggest the owner to put a curtain in the window of the toilets in room no. 1, it is very uncomfortable when everyone who is in the snorkeling area can see you do your deeds!

Hinwong has probably one of the most dynamite views on the island. As everyone mentions, it is off the beaten path, but has THE BEST snorkeling and Costa you only 50 baht vs having to book a tour. My gf and I checked in on a Tuesday and didn't even consider leaving till check out day on Thirsday bc we had everything we wanted there. Very calm, relaxing, and secluded. Great value but hard to get to. ”

The view from the bedroom is AMAZING. The access to Hinwong Bay is perfect for snorkeling. The owner and his wife both speak English and can offer great insight and advice regarding the area.

The road in and out is steep and treacherous. If you plan on spending all your island time at the resort then no problem. But if you plan on renting motorbikes as we did, don't stay at this resort. Truly, the road in and out is rocky, sandy, and incredibly steep. The ride in and the walk up to the resort would be very difficult for families with small children. This is a great place for couples looking to stay in, relax, and snorkel the bay. The views are amazing and the rooms are nice but, no AC or hot water. It was a great value for the money spent.

Only thing going for it is the view”

view, pool, bungalows on boulders

I called to have them pick me up and the British owner was quite rude. He told me 15 minutes maximum. After waiting for 35 minutes I called back just to ensure someone was actually coming. He laughed rudely at me and continually insisted I had only called 15 minutes prior when my cell phone clearly shows it was 35 minutes earlier. No big deal to wait, but strange that he insisted and was not friendly. Eem (Im?) the other owner and wife was pleasant. Overall very strange feeling from the staff. No one was overly friendly. I came here to work with a beautiful view and had AWFUL Wi-Fi. It took me hours to get anything accomplished. When I mentioned it to the staff they just said, "Oh, your room has that problem. Maybe go in the hall." I'm from the US where hospitality is a very big deal, and this would never be acceptable. If this were a $20 room fine, but it's listed at almost $70. Also, inside the room my table and chairs were plastic, beat down, and the table was actually broken off all around the edge. There was no real care put into the rooms. I had fruit flies infest my bed. They were small enough to get through the mosquito net. The view IS incredible. It's the only real thing I think this place has going for it. It's extremely isolated and takes great effort to get anywhere as you have to climb many steps and large hills to get into town. The restaurant has very few options and no vegetarian options (unless you just remove the meat). No fish either: just chicken and pork. Much of this would be forgiven if the staff was friendlier. I would choose to visit Hin Wong Bay rather than stay at this property.
