Easily the best value for the money in Taichung. Comparatively speaking, amongst the immediate competition, this large and recently renovated hotel cost just a tad more than similar-priced competition. While the details of the renovations in the rooms look rushed, the decor is nevertheless classic Chinese style, (akin to posh hotels of the past). Regardless, beds and pillows are modern and plush and most importantly, everything is clean. Even regular suites have a tub. On top of this, the lobby and entrance are relatively extravagant and the breakfast easily beats any others in this price-range being both plentiful and fresh. Despite various prior reviews, service was top-notch. A four-star hotel at a two-star price. The only drawback for non-local patrons would be the distance from various transportation hubs, shopping districts or tourist attractions. However, given the price and convenience of local taxis, this is just a minor issue.

The lobby and the breakfast area were nicely renovated, but rooms weren’t. The rooms looked aged and needed a lot of work. Bedsheets and etc (the softwares) were new, but the walls, toilets, shower heads and etc (the hardwares) were extremely old. There were a huge oddly gap under the room door... totally peek-able from outside the room. The flaws I mentioned are totally replaceable and fixable. A pity... the hotel has potential.

It’s Embarrassing to be Called Four-Star Hotel”
I’ve regretted staying in HiONE Gallery Hotel Taichung. The hotel’s facilities are very out of date. It shows extreme neglect and in need of serious attention. It is embarrassing to claim to be a four-star hotel in such conditions. Too many cons: shower curtain yellowed and stained; an exposed cave with no tissues or box in the bathroom; beds old and not comfortable; no outlets near beds to charge phones/devices. Breakfast experience was shockingly: foods are of low quality and not fresh, while staffs poorly trained/managed. Dirty doors connecting the guests’ seating areas and the kitchen. Staffs’ laud yelling and laughing were heard clearly when doors open. Badly scuffed buffet tables are actually old office desks lined up. Under one of them, a large old bucket sits awkwardly. Many dishes have as little as 2% of foods with bowls covered with smeared left-overs. 15 minutes later, nothing’s changed. I gently pointed it out to a staff, and only got a shrug of indifference.

Multiple small things overshadow”
We booked the Plaza International with good expectations. We arrived to find that it is being named H--One. Financially the hotel is probably doing OK due to tour groups. The staff was courteous and seemed to be making a good effort. The fault is not theirs, but the way the place is being run. There were numerous inconveniences and disappointments. For instance, the facility description cards in the room is out-of-date. No gym facilities on the 6th floor. I suspect that it has relocated to the spa on the rooftop, if that is still there. The air conditioner was set on turbo-cold, and even setting it at the warmest did not make a difference. The bed quilt was smaller than the surface of the bed. The breakfast restaurant had inadequate toasters, coffee makers, and dishes (glasses, bowls, etc.) available for the crowd. Management knew how many people their would be serving, but did not plan well and did not set things up so that the staff could serve well.
