    Located in Queenstown on the side of a hill, just 500 metres from Skyline Gondola and Luge, Hippo Lodge Backpackers features a barbecue and a ski storage space. The popular bars and restaurants of Queenstown are within a 10-minute walk. Offering a mix of shared and private accommodation, all rooms feature views of the mountain, lake or garden.     Nice lodge with good view”

    Hippo Lodge Backpackers is located up in a small hill. For those without a car (like us), it was a bit harsh to drag the large suitcase up to a very steep road. But then, once you arrive at the lodge with the nice view, it worths the hard work. So, I highly recommend those with a car to book this lodge. Or, if you are physically fit and don't mind the steep slope to the lodge, it's a very nice place to stay. The common room and kitchen are also spacious with a nice balcony.

    Not overcrowded like those in CBD area but the price is a bit higher. Facilities are nice.

    it's alright”

    The friendly staff makes up for this old and dirty backpacker. Kitchen was unkempt and the showers was not inviting. The bedroom was basic. Not far from town but up a hill.

    So dirty hostel”

    If you choose here because you need money! Don't need to worry. I spend one night in here. They dont care room and kitchen is dirty or not. Looks like 2 days during didn’t clean. The floor was dirty. Kitchen was terrible because all dish and cup was every where.

    質と値段がミスマッチ”

    洗練されていない人間も混じるバックパッカー用ホステルなので、問題点を挙げるとキリがない。結局、値段に見合っているかどうかが大事なんで、このホステルについて言えば、3000円ならアリ、4000円超ならアウトという感じ。  4人部屋に7泊した。特に廊下、それに部屋のカビ臭がきつい。ベッドはボロく、タオルなど各種アメニティーは一切なし。朝食はもちろんコーヒーもお茶もない。何もないならないで、もっと安くできんか?  2日目の朝、部屋の床のド真ん中に図体のデカいガキが堂々と寝ていたのには、すごく驚いた。ルームメイトの英国人ガキ2人連れが勝手に招き入れたらしい。一番安い8人部屋になると、長期滞在者がウザいらしい。できるだけ少人数部屋を選んだほうがよさそう。  他方、キッチンの掃除は毎日行われ、冷蔵庫の整理整頓も及第点。洗濯機4ドルというのもお得（洗剤1杯1ドルは割高）。バス・トイレは許容範囲だけど、男女兼用。そもそも部屋も男女兼用のみ。  ダウンタウンをすぐ間近に見下ろす高台にあり、心臓破りの急坂を登る必要あり。建物は崖に張り付くように点在していて、部屋にたどり着くまでこれまた結構な運動になる。駐車場は狭く、ハイシーズンは路駐（無料）を余儀なくされることもある。  オーナーMiki（♂）は日米混血で、姓はニシハタさん。日本語は話せないが、とにかくナイスガイ。  ホステルなので、快適さがルームメイトに左右されるのは仕方ないし、オーナーの素晴らしさを考慮に入れても、やはり4000円超の価値はないと思った。
