Impossible to find
Impossible to find without wifi. No one came to get me or contact me when I called from a nearby shop at 8 in the dark. Could be nice for all I know, but I don’t recommend it for these reasons.

Excellent
We enjoyed being there (just outside the village) to celebrate Hmong New Year. The staff was friendly. We went for a walk in the countryside past vegetable and rice fields. Nice view of the countryside from our balcony.

Disappointed
We arrived to the location at around 5 PM and the owner was nowhere to be found. We ended up having to knock on a renter's door so that he could call the owner. Turned out the owner was in a town 5 hours away. This caused issues for our stay and the problems were compounded by our inability to speak Thai, the rain and their inability to speak English. The location is amazing. Also, breakfast not provided although the booking on Agoda claimed it would be.

Good
This place has decent bungalows, if a little basic. The view is great and you're surrounded by veggie gardens and mountain views. You will need your own transport as Hmong Homestay is between Pang Ung and Baan Rak Thai and there is only a small village within walking distance.

Great Rural Getaway
Staff was super friendly. Great breakfast each morning. Really remote getaway from all the smog a hustle of Bangkok.

Basic Accommodation for the Price
Hmong Homestay have very basic bungalows but, as we paid 1160THB per night, we expected d a bit more. Perhaps in low season they offer better value. Choose the mountain view over the river view rooms as they are newer and of higher quality. Although Hmong Homestay offers great views and a real rural feeling they are stuck right between Baan Rak Thai and Pang Ung meaning it's a hilly, steep journey of 7-8km to get to either one of the places you would want to visit. However, if you do want to be away from it all and stay in a small village and don't mind driving hills regularly then this could be your place.

Nice spot
The staff are great and the food is really good too. Location is great to explore nearby village and lake. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. Would definatly recommended. The only down side was the shower was very temperamental but this didnt actually bother us.

Experience the Hmong lifestyle
The location was superb. It was an authentic setting and was not plagued by the touristy activities offered elsewhere in Maehongson. It was quiet and peaceful.
We spent two nights in this resort; we had one breakfast and two dinners. The food was adequate, the host was friendly and genuinely helpful and the nature was spectacular: we walked in the rice paddies, in the wood, along the river, and we thoroughly enjoyed the drive up to the resort on the local yellow bus which took us in the mountains behind Maehongson. If you are interested in how people live in these mountainous villages then spend a couple or more days at this resort to learn about their daily activities; this is a comfortable place which has not (yet) been tainted by the development of the local tourist industry. Resorts like this one should be encouraged and promoted to attract tourists respectful of nature and local cultures, while discouraging the usual commercial and entertainment activities which have already spoiled Chiang Mai, Pai and to a certain extent even Maehongson.

Mixed Feelings...
Mountains View, Friendly Staff, village settings
I had a terrible experience as far as getting to this homestay. I arrived on motorbike from Chiang Mai pretty late in central Mae Hong Son and then was told that this place was another 50km away from the town. Geez, my ride to this place was nothing short of terrifying experience. Pitch darkness with the most winding steep drops. All the way I was hoping that my motorbike doesn't die on me because there was no other traffic on that treacherous road at that time of the evening. Also finding the Homestay was adventure in itself. I had to stop in every village to get the directions. Once arrived at the Homestay, the accomodation was very basic and slightly on dirty side. I couldn't believe I took such a risk riding on that treacherous road at night time to get to this dump. Anyways, the room I booked was terrible so I asked it to be upgraded. The mountain view room was liveable. But the best thing about this Homestay is morning views. You get to see all the mountains from your front porch. That is the only thing worth mentioning.
