Our room smelled like urine and the place is unsafe”
This facility should be shut down! The whole place is filthy dirty from the urine soaked carpet in the bathroom (I kid you not, carpeting in a hotel bathroom) to the stained and dingy walls. More importantly, the place is a fire trap. I plugged my iPhone in to charge it and after a few minutes there was a huge spark, the smell of burning plastic and the lights went out. The spark blew back with such force it scorched and shorted out my charger. Luckily the phone survived. I told the proprietor about it and he just reset the breaker and said it was my charger that was the problem. He was nice enough but is in complete denial that the place is about to go up in flames. Old, faulty wiring isn't something to be toyed with. Either clean the place up and upgrade the electrical or get out of the hotel business.
Rustic and Lovely but perhaps not for everybody”
Pros: vintage, rustic, lovely bar and fireplace downstairs, the bedroom was spacious Cons: the room was a bit old and the shower was cramped. The bed and pillow was....hmm..
Big room with enough facilities”
good wifi, hot water available, a workable TV set and big beds. however the cups provided are not very clean and the hostel is a bit old
Cheap but you get what you pay for”
Cheap room which did the job but shower didn't work, toilet was leaking but if you just want a bed it is okay.
Wont stay again, they charged me 3 pounds just to keep my bags
You get what you pay for”
On 1st look it was a case of omg what a dump but thought it's OK I'm only gonna be sleeping here but to be fare it was one of the best nights sleep I've had in a while the bed was clean and extremely comfortable so please look past the fact they have Xmas Dec's up all year round or the very dated image
You get what you pay for”
This is a "you get what you pay for place". Very cheap, but there is damp, the wallpaper is coming off the walls, carpets are worn, it's very pokey. There are also Christmas decorations up. A note on the stairs says that a film crew are filming a Christmas TV show but I saw no evidence of this. Having said all that, my room was warm, my bed was comfortable, it has 24h access and it's close to central Manchester so has plenty of restaurants etc in walking distance. It is good value, but remember value = quality/price.
Absolutely terrible experience - not sure how councils allow such hotels. I am still in shock!”
Firstly, Guys - Do not book this hotel. I am sure you will remember my words if at all you book this hotel as soon as you step into the doors. Its like nothing i have ever imagined in my dreams and the worst nightmare.... The carpet is stuck to the floor with muddy outlines and is probably 20+ year old. The rooms are never cleaned, repainted or maintained for years. You will surely have a sick feeling once you enter until you leave. The things that done work: Only tea facility provided... no coffee kit provided No Soap/Shampoo Provided Old water diluted handwash soap (Terrible) Wifi connects but drops every 2 mins. - In effect never works. Please avoid at all costs OR risk booking this hotel - upto you
A really homely and friendly hotel. Staff were really helpful and made sure you had everything you need.
Be sure you know what you are getting”
This is not a 'Guesthouse'. It is some old dingy rooms over an old pub. While the location is very good, the accommodation is very poor. I went here with my 18 year old son for the week end to taken in a Manchester United game. For two guys, we didn't mind much as long as we had someplace to lay our heads, but if you go there expecting a certain standard, you are likely to be quite upset. The place is not clean, it is old and run-down. The shower holder was broken, but I managed to use it as a hose in my hand. There is no shampoo or shower gel. Some bits are held together with tuff-tape. You get the idea. You do get a kettle and some tea bags. It is old and run down. Positives: If this doesn't bother you, the beds were at least clean and there are no creepy-crawlies. It is cheap. Check-out comprises of putting your key into a mailbox inside and closing the door behind you. Nobody bothers you and it's relatively quiet for so close to the city center. Just be aware of what you are getting when you book it.
near the industry museum, but the room was too bad,not very clear, and small
Basic place to stay”
Good location, pub is closed. Room is old but clean. Bed is painful to sleep on. Shower is small. If u need a place to stay that is good enough but don't expect comfort or luxury.
A very cheap price”
Friendly welcome and straightforward check in. The bed was comfortable. The room was generally clean but some areas were quite dusty. Corridors and stairs could do with decoration. TV would not change channel and there was no volume. Don't expect luxury accommodation. If you just need somewhere to sleep within walking distance of the city it would be hard to find a better price.
Dark, shabby and in need of major refurbishment. The bathroom was like a cupboard with damp and no vent, bar of soap used left from last person. 2 tea cups, i saucer and a broken plastic spoon.
Stay at hotel ”
Wasn't worth it to us”
We arrived and thought that it must be closed down. The door was reinforced with a confusing message taped to it. Once inside the Christmas decorations were up (it's the end of July) it's was dark and bleak in the pub. I use a wheelchair and we were given a room on the top floor meaning I had to climb the narrow stairs up two flights as there was no lift. The lights on the stairways were flickering resulting in headaches and dizziness among the group. The room itself wasn't initially too bad although upon spending a few minutes there we realised that the door to the hallway outside didn't lock so we ended up not sleeping well, for fear that someone could just walk in. There was no double glazing on the windows and the window was also cracked meaning the room was freezing cold. To make it worse in the morning we spotted the bedbugs retreating back into their home full of our blood. A member of the group had a room that locked but had no door on his bathroom. Overall the hosts were alright to us but the hotel wasn't at all suitable and I doubt that they've ever updated anything or replaced anything that was broken. I won't be staying again.
Absolutely a no go!”
The hotel was very dirty. The owner couldn't care less. He is not suited as a host. The TV has his sole attention. The street is very noisy. The hotel cannot be safe in case of a fire. The wallpaper comes off the walls. You should remove this hotel from your site.
gave the impression of being closed down
This is not a proper hotel!!!”
What I want is a bed with basic facilities. But this is not a hotel, but a pub with a couple of guest rooms. The facilities are worn out and the room is very dirty. And bugs and fleas are clawling on the bed. Urine smell occupies the room. It is a nightmare.
Great for a spontaneous trip”
I booked this hotel late therefore was very suprised at the very competitive price. The room wa the lowest price available so I didn't expect much. I won't lie; it's no 5* hotel with oodles of facilities and perks. The bathroom didn't have any real supplies and the room wasn't too well equipped. That said... for what I paid it was spot on. The chap who greeted me wa very friendly and even let me stay in a double room (I paid for a single). The room was warm and the bed comfortable (more than my own). The shower wa a treat and had plenty of power in it and the room was quiet with no disturbances. If I wanted a holiday I'd look elsewhere (preferably somewhere that needs a plane journey), but if I want somewhere reasonably priced and comfortable to get my head down whilst visiting my home city, then sure.. I'd happily come back here.
