We really enjoyed our 5 nights at the Cruz Sol. The rooms were small (but not tiny!) beds were comfy, bed linen and towels were good, it was nice and clean. Staff were friendly and made the room up every day. The location is brilliant, only about 100mtrs from Plaza Mayor, surrounded by bars, cafes, restaurants to suit all tastes. We walked to all the major places of interest. For value for money and location this place is perfect. If it’s the height of luxury you are after then try somewhere else!
Pros - location Very central. Great staff. Value for Money.
Old and tiny but great value!!!”
Hotel is hold, it is actually one one floor within a building. Rooms are very small, and so are the bathrooms. However, absolutely amazing value for money - the location is unbeatable - just outside Plaza Mayor and within walking distances from most tourist attractions in Madrid. Staff were helpful also. Overall, clean, comfortable rooms - small rooms and because the building is old the walls do not insulate sound very well - however, given the location and the price point, I believed it was great value for money. Really enjoyed staying here and rested comfortably
Great budget hostel for a short stay in Madrid”
Perfect location for a first time in Madrid. I lived in Madrid for a year but my boyfriend had never been so I wanted to stay somewhere close to the tourist attractions. Our room was right on the plaza so it was noisy (esp Saturday night) but that’s part of the charm. Tiny room but had enough storage so it wasn’t too cramped. We put our luggage on the enclosed balcony so that freed up a lot of space. It’s on the 3rd floor (what we would call the 4th floor in the US) but there’s a cozy elevator that fit 2 adults and 2 checked bag size suitcases. Bathroom was a decent size for the area (usually they’re too tiny to move). The few interactions I had with the staff were good and I feel they would have been helpful if I needed anything. Although I did notice that the credit card machine was down for a little while when a man was trying to settle up his account. They have free WiFi that works well. It could use a couple of repairs (our bedside lamp didn’t work, loud AC)
Basic, well maintained accomodation in superb location”
Pleasan, quiet rooms in the heart of the tourist area. All basic equipment supplied & working. An excellent base for a short stay somewhere you're out and about much of the day.
Excellent location! Right next to Plaza Mayor, and a 5 Min walk from Puerta del Sol. A meal is just a step away. Very neat and clean, and accommodative staff. I'd left my phone in the taxi, and the staff and owner stepped in to communicate with the taxi driver and got my phone back. The process took over an hour and they were at it all the time. Thank you, Cruz Sol!
If you can put up with very small rooms, and you're looking to save money, this is a very good deal. In the heart of the old quarter. Five minutes from busy and central Puerta del Sol, three from the appealing and also busy Plaza Mayor (a metro hub), and a doable walk from the Prado, other museums, and the handsome avenue known as the Castellana. Considering location, little street noise, and plenty of shops and restaurants are close at hand.
perfect location hostal”
no complains about this hostal, everything worked well for me, most especially the location....you should stay here if you do not want to spend much but still be comfortable and within reach from all the good spots in madrid.
Great location ”
Pros Great location 3 mins walk from Plaza Mayor and 5 mins walk from Sol Metro . Clean and tidy Nice staff Cons Basic and dated but adequate for the price.
Great place for the money
Pros: -Sunny room with excellent view -Excellent Location (very central, 1 minute walk from Plaza Mayor and 5 minutes from Puerta del Sol) -Clean Cons: -Noisy -Room was bright at night -Safe costs 1Euro I requested a room on the main plaza and we got a lovely room with lots of sunshine and two windows - one looking on the plaza and the other on the side street. The room was pleasant, clean, and comfortable. The only reason I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hostel to other people is because I found it difficult to sleep at night. I wouldn't recommend it to light sleepers - the room was noisy (we could hear other guests in the hallway because the walls were thin. Also, the reception was just outside of our door so we could hear the doorbell ringing several times through the night) and bright (there were no blackout curtains and they lit up their sign at night, so lots of light came in through the windows while we were trying to sleep). If you are not a light sleeper, this is a nice place (excellent central location!!) to stay at a good value. My last comment is that I think it was kind of tacky that they charged 1 Euro for use of the safe in the room!
Centrally-located quaint hostel”
Hostel is located in the middle of Plaza Mayor and Sol, so in terms of location, you're a winner. Also, the rooms are really nice, considering your expectations when you see the building facade
Have stayed here for 10 years”
If you want to be safe, comfortable, well positioned and save $ this is your place.
Better location to find is hard. We reached all the points with foot and hadn't used the train ticket we bought! Room was simple, but very clean and nice. Will definitely book this hotel again!!! Best recommendation!!!
a wonderful experience
Great location and good value for your money”
It exceeds our expectation. Absolutely recommended.
Great Bang for the Buck”
Hotel is a little over a block from the Plaza Mayor and 5 minute walk from the Sol Metro stop for easy access to major sights. It is on a small plaza (Santa Cruz) with 2 bars/restaurants. Didn't eat there. Preferred Plaza Mayor for more extensive people watching. Rooms are small. A double has two twins pushed together with no room to separate them more than a few inches. Stayed there 3days then two separate overnights in a 2-week period. Three different rooms all similar and all 3 bathrooms were quite new and clean. Would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone on a budget who does not need a lot of space. We only slept in the room. It would probably not do if you wanted to spend a lot of time reading or watching TV. I am an avid traveler (female early 70's) and ditto for my early 60's female travel companion.
It's a hotel, not hostel, so price rather expensive but room is small, staff are not friendly enough
Surprisingly nice budget hotel in the heart of MAD”
If you want to stay close to the center of Madrid and all of the major sites/attractions, this is the best location and hotel for the money. The hotel looks questionable from the outside but once you are in, the rooms are nice, modern and clean, the windows are double-pane (which really helps since the hotel faces a busy square) and the staff is attentive (although somewhat limited in English). We really enjoyed our stay and would have enjoyed it even more if not for a U.S. middle school group that came to stay at the hotel in the middle of our stay. Just think of being surrounded by 10-20 13-year olds :) but it was not hotel's fault that the kids were so loud and misbehaved. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the center of Madrid while not wanting to spend an arm and the leg for hotel.
soso~ just sleeping and taking a shower”
