Home style hostel”

I stayed 2 night in Mondo, the location is ok, there is bus and supermarket nearby, walked further has train station. It is a traditional Japanese house. You can use kitchen to cook. The staffs are very nice, they can give you the best advice in Kyoto. Even there is tourist map on the wall, mark the entrance ticket, the distance for you considering. There is tatami living room. The hostel keeps very clean, next time definitely will go back again.

Good value and great staff, off the beaten track”

Welcoming staff that provided lots of good info and maps, vegan restaurant nearby, 15 min from JR train

Good stay and welcoming staff. Great value. Nice to not be super close to the Gion and temples (more touristy district). Loved walking around the small streets and seeing "real life Kyoto". Also, close to Imperial Palace gardens (great spot for a morning run), Nijo Castle, and a handful of other nice temples. About a 15 min walk to the Nijo JR train stop. If you're vegan, Morpho Cafe is about 5 min away and has awesome options (try the ramen).

good value for money”

good location

I stayed 2 nights at the Hostel Mundo. It is located next to NIJO castle and takes only 2-30 minutes to go to Kyoto's famous places such as Arashiyama, Kinkakuji and Fushimi inari taisha. The bus station is quite close to the hostel. It was so good. I stayed in the twin room. It was Japanese traditional tatami room. There are no bed, no TV, only 2 pairs of futon and small table. Also, it was quite cold. I felt good because I wanted to experience Japanese tatami room, but it would be inconvenient for Western people. The staff was nice, and the hostel's atmosphere was quite calm and relaxing. Overall, it was good value for money.

The welcoming staff, the old atmosphère, the charm. Its rustic because it s an old house but that s what gives it its charm. I loved it that way!

Very, very nice and enjoyable. This hotel jas charm and atmosphère because it is old and remains so. And the staff is adorable very welcoming. I hope the hôtel stays the way it is and that it doesn t get modernised!! I felt like I was in a real japanese home, not in a hostel.

Though it is a tiny hostel, the service is wonderful and the staffs are particularly helpful. In general the hostel is super clean, the downside is the bunker bed is really super tiny but with this low price this is already the best that I can imagine.

Great staff”

Staff in this hotel is very kind and atmosphere is friendly. Room type C is big enough for two people with one small table and two futons. Everything else in the hostel is very, very small. If you are higher than average japanese you have to bend when you enter the room or you will hit your head on the doorpost. Restrooms are also very small and one of them have old sliding door very difficult to close. There are two showers - one is very old and not so clean, the other is fine but it's hard to enter. There is sliding door and when you open them there is around 30cm for one to get in. If you are not super slim you will have difficulties to get into. Stairs for rooms on the 1st floor are very steep and it's very difficult to climb with heavy baggage. Location is good. 10 minutes walk from the bus stop.

Cozy little traditional house”

Its not too near to the train station, but you can rent a bike for ¥500 per day which might be the cheapest place to rent a bike. Its small but is equipped with all neccesities, love the simple nice breakfast as well. The only cons is that the soundproof is not satisfying, anyway can’t expect more for this price.

Staff performance, value for money, cleanliness

The hostel is quite a long walk (~30mins from nearest subway, ~15mins from nearest bus-stop) away. The rooms are also small, and the floorboards are creaky, as it is an old structure. However, the staff are very helpful and kind, and the facilities are generally clean.
