I stayed only for 1 night but I was happy being there for this amazing price. The staff were very nice and I could store my bag after my check out to collet it later .. I rent one of their bicycles and I was good for hours. I would recommend this place and when I come back again to Kyoto I'll book the same hostel again! :) Thx Sahar <3
Home style hostel”
I stayed 2 night in Mondo, the location is ok, there is bus and supermarket nearby, walked further has train station. It is a traditional Japanese house. You can use kitchen to cook. The staffs are very nice, they can give you the best advice in Kyoto. Even there is tourist map on the wall, mark the entrance ticket, the distance for you considering. There is tatami living room. The hostel keeps very clean, next time definitely will go back again.
Good value and great staff, off the beaten track”
Good stay and welcoming staff. Great value. Nice to not be super close to the Gion and temples (more touristy district). Loved walking around the small streets and seeing "real life Kyoto". Also, close to Imperial Palace gardens (great spot for a morning run), Nijo Castle, and a handful of other nice temples. About a 15 min walk to the Nijo JR train stop. If you're vegan, Morpho Cafe is about 5 min away and has awesome options (try the ramen).
traditional Japanese house, not so far away from bus stop(Kyoto is small city, you can reach any scene conveniently), staff were friedly, value the money.
good value for money”
I stayed 2 nights at the Hostel Mundo. It is located next to NIJO castle and takes only 2-30 minutes to go to Kyoto's famous places such as Arashiyama, Kinkakuji and Fushimi inari taisha. The bus station is quite close to the hostel. It was so good. I stayed in the twin room. It was Japanese traditional tatami room. There are no bed, no TV, only 2 pairs of futon and small table. Also, it was quite cold. I felt good because I wanted to experience Japanese tatami room, but it would be inconvenient for Western people. The staff was nice, and the hostel's atmosphere was quite calm and relaxing. Overall, it was good value for money.
So cute, so friendly”
I had a great night at Hostel Mundo. The staff was friendly, helpful, and engaging. The hostel itself is adorable, and I really appreciated having a curtain on my bed! Everything was clean and nice.
Small and very nice place to stay, the host is so friendly. You can rent a bike and meet kyoto !!!
Very welcoming ”
Very, very nice and enjoyable. This hotel jas charm and atmosphère because it is old and remains so. And the staff is adorable very welcoming. I hope the hôtel stays the way it is and that it doesn t get modernised!! I felt like I was in a real japanese home, not in a hostel.
Though it is a tiny hostel, the service is wonderful and the staffs are particularly helpful. In general the hostel is super clean, the downside is the bunker bed is really super tiny but with this low price this is already the best that I can imagine.
We was in Mundo During the new year's eve, the staff involve us to make a party with them and go to the shrine to make the offer for the new year, great experience!
Staff in this hotel is very kind and atmosphere is friendly. Room type C is big enough for two people with one small table and two futons. Everything else in the hostel is very, very small. If you are higher than average japanese you have to bend when you enter the room or you will hit your head on the doorpost. Restrooms are also very small and one of them have old sliding door very difficult to close. There are two showers - one is very old and not so clean, the other is fine but it's hard to enter. There is sliding door and when you open them there is around 30cm for one to get in. If you are not super slim you will have difficulties to get into. Stairs for rooms on the 1st floor are very steep and it's very difficult to climb with heavy baggage. Location is good. 10 minutes walk from the bus stop.
Cozy little traditional house”
Its not too near to the train station, but you can rent a bike for ¥500 per day which might be the cheapest place to rent a bike. Its small but is equipped with all neccesities, love the simple nice breakfast as well. The only cons is that the soundproof is not satisfying, anyway can’t expect more for this price.
very warming and clean hostel. Staffs speak excellent english and helpful.
Three nights in Kyoto”
The hostel is quite a long walk (~30mins from nearest subway, ~15mins from nearest bus-stop) away. The rooms are also small, and the floorboards are creaky, as it is an old structure. However, the staff are very helpful and kind, and the facilities are generally clean.
Nice small hostel near Nijo castle”
Nice small hostel near Nijo castle
Cozy hostel with excellent staff”
I stay 3 nights there, the place is an old japanese house very nice and cozy. They have everything you need: aircon, kitchen, ice cubes aall the time, fridge, showers, free tea, free coffee. All the staff speak very well english. The owner can speak spanish as well. You have to walk like 25 minutes from the nearest JR Nijo station, but is well conected with the bus lines. Supermarket close. Close to Nijo Castle.
Value to stay”
Staff is very nice and helpful. Room is clean but location is little bit far from subway station (15min walk).
I stay for 1 night. Small room, but they provide privacy with the curtain (i slept in female dorms with 5 other girls). Friendly and helpful receptionist.
Worth and affordable”
