Wonderful hostel in mid-Tokyo with very nice staff”
I stayed at Waqwaq for the second time now and I still really like it. It's in Ueno, 10-15 minute walk away from various stations, 20 minute walk to Asakusa. I stayed for approximately 2 weeks and I don't regret it. Compared to other hostels it's very affordable. You can use the shower for free, as well as the kitchen (the fridge is a bit too small for all the guests, would recommend to get a slightly bigger one as it was always proper full) and you get towels and bed sheets for free as well. The staff is really friendly, they are always very helpful, kind and fun to be around! There is also a community space, but compared to the 2nd floor ( which belongs to the restaurant, but was used as the community space some time ago), its pretty inconvenient, because it's really small and due to guests sleeping on the same floor you're not able to stay there after 11pm. All in all I'd recommend everyone to stay there as well.
Really better than my expectation.”
Nice staffs, convenient location, comfortable and quiet environment. It’s the first time I went to Japan, and next time I come to Tokyo I will choose WAQWAQ again.
Thank you for staying here and good review! Hope to see you again! sato
the only problem: No Keylock”
I had to store my things in or below bed. It has place for suitcase anyway. Everything else is Fine. flush bed, thick towel, the atmosphere, free earplug, shower booth,.. all above average. Little far from JR UENO,for tired evening. Metro Ginza line is near, with on the way matsuya, good for breakfast.
Thank you for staying here! your bed is mixed dormitory so we dont have any keys.. If you need any help, please ask our staff!
Private room not worth it”
It's a cute hostel and there's a lot to be said about it, but we stayed three nights and it was the least favorite hostel of my trip. We wanted a private room but it was absolutely tiny and featureless (no individual reading lights, nowhere to sit or relax, almost nowhere for luggage- a real fire hazard). The beds were least comfortable, the sheets were scratchiest. Our ceiling and one wall had a gap so light and noise from the hallway came in. But there's free coffee in the mornings and the lounge area is nice, we got 500Y each to spend at the restaurant (no catch) and it's in a pleasant neighborhood, not too far from Asakusa or Ueno. It's still a decent place to stay but I think the dorm rooms are probably more comfortable than the private room.
Thank you for staying here! Our room is a bit tiny but we try to make our guests comfortable. If you need any help, please ask our staff! sato
Recommend to backpack travellers”
Location is a bit far from the station, yet there are plenty of restaurants nearby even opening at midnight. The hostel is a bit small and you have to go to another floor for bathing and eating which is the only issue yet no big deal.
Clean and cheap”
This hostel is brand new so pretty clean. It takes 10 minutes from JR station. Free coffee, slippers, towel and can get a discount ticket for the Italian restaurant on ground floor. The room is bit small.
Very good”
+ the price is okay they let you put your bag before check in and after check out subway is 5-10 minutes of walking they have halal pizzaria and prayer room the bathrooms and powder room are great there's microwave and refrigerator, but bring your own kitchen utensils you can smoke outside at the first floor there's an Aeon minimarket near the hostel, it's the only one I've seen in Japan. but it's not open 24 hour. - no private locker bed is quite small if you're easily disturbed it's not the best place to get some rest
Not recommend to JR pass users”
Almost 15mins walk from Ueno station, really tiring if you carry large luggage. 24hr restaurants and shops are located far away from this hostel (just a few convenient stores and vending machines nearby). No staff at the front desk after 11pm. Room is small.
Exceptional”
Great accommodations for an affordable price, very good value. Location is pretty close to things to do and train stations. Only cons are that there isn't really a common area to hangout in or a kitchen, also the staff is not at the desk that often so can't really ask them for recommendations or advice.
Great pizza! Remote location”
Cute place with really good pizza! Location close to museums but far from Shinjuku/ Shibuya so wouldn’t recommend staying here for the whole of your Tokyo trip.
Near station and good place”
Near station and good place. This hostel have pizza for dinner time. Unique hostels and big doll in the lift.
A good place to stay”
Pros 1) Near to 7Eleven 2) Nice interior and exterior design 3) Still able to check-in after 11pm without extra charges (did inform beforehand) 4) Common room, shower room and toilet is very clean Cons 1) Not full wall barriers next to each rooms so some people may get disturb by noises 2) It's a bit far if you choose to walk from the train station to the hotel 3) Some of the things are broken without fix before accepting new customers which is dangerous (eg: stairs beside the bed is not in fixed position because the screw came off).
Very nice hostel”
I have enjoyed my stay here. Haruka was always funny lol. Place is clean and provide you towels. Beds are comfortable. I would recommend this place.
Exceptional”
I had an issue with my bed location in the room not because of the hotel's fault but fellow rude guests. However, the cleaning staff was really helpful and relayed the message to the manager. It was immediately resolved and I was very pleased. The place too is very clean and neat with several bathrooms.
Should concern about noise control. ”
I would say that this really upset me as the noise control system here is really poor. All the stuffs in the facility are way too dense together that you could here most of the disturbing noise. A walk on the corridor in the middle of the night can really wake people up(1am-4am) Therefor it's impossible for me to recommend this to anyone that needs a real rest when they come to Japan. Unless the situation improves.
Nice but...”
I stayed at female dorm. everything was fine, until the night with full guest. My floor and beside my room is family room which is kinda disturbing because the talk so loud. The room not completely close, I mean in the partition of each room, there is a little gap at the top, so we can hear clearly the sound from another room.
Thank you for staying here! In case its so loud, our staff will tell them. And we have free year plugs at the front desk. Hope to see you again!
Super Affordable!!”
The place is quite accessible and so close to a metro line station. However, if you're not a person who have the same physique as Frodo then the space of this inn is not for you as the place can be quite small. The other bummer to the place is the noise. There can be some guest that were not so considerate towards the comfort of others. My partner in this trip wasn't able to sleep until 3 am in the morning as the new guest who checked in were very noisy. I also woke up early because of the noises of the same group which is a big discomfort for the last day of our stay. I hope the management would improve on managing this kind disturbance to the place. They have a common room thus talking loudly to the sleeping quarters should highly be prohibited and the management should implement this standard strictly. I've been to a much cheaper inn all over Japan and they all have exceeded our expectations towards the facility. I hope this place will improve for the better.
great location”
great location, clean, friendly stuff, amazing pizza (in ground floor)
Good value but where was the staff? ”
I stayed for 1 night. Everything was clean and facility was ok, but I couldnt find the lobby staff at the morning and at the afternoon. They just trusted you to put your own luggage and to do self check out. So I felt a little bit strange. Another benefit is they provide a praying space for muslim traveler.
Lots of things are changed. Still reasonable place.”
Not that far from the JR station and quite nice position for sightseeing. Reasonable price and quite nice services than expected(such as free towel resupplying). Recommended.
