Best hotels & accommodations in Kyoto

The Lower East Nine Hostel is located next to Kujo Station on the subway network. Kyoto station is next stop but it is more worthwhile and use it to travel to Shijo Station where most central Kyoto landmarks are in the vicinity and to connect to the Hankyu rail network which provides access to Osaka Itami Airport with easier transfers. As it is near Kyoto Station, it ...

My husband and I stayed at K's for 4 nights in Kyoto. We were really impressed with how bright and spacious the hostel was; it really feels like a cutting edge, modern hostel that is perfect for budget travelers who want a place where they will be comfortable. The hostel had lots of information about things to see & do as well as places to eat in Kyoto. Although we ...

The hostel was excellent for the price. Though it's one of the cheapest hostels in Kyoto, they cared about every details. They even had various pillows for you to choose! They also provided slippers and umbrella, which were very useful in such rainy season. They provided free breakfast from 7:30 to 10 am, however, by 9:30 food was pretty much gone. The breakfast a...

10/10 the best hostel in Kyoto or all of Japan. Everything is new and clean, very helpful staff especially Mayu & Amy, and a few others sorry couldn't rememeber your names. Shower floor is on basement which is good too to minimize the noise level & its the little things that makes this hostel so different from the others, eg. towel free to use, if you need more just g...

Great hostel with good vibes to meet people from all over. Really close to kyoto station which is great. Also close to other lines and walking distance to many temples kyoto has to offer. Beds were very big, although mattress was very thin. Bathrooms were always clean. Only con is that they put too high the air at night so is very hot!!

10min walk from the nearest train station. walking distance on tourist spots. if you use google map to find the location, you will get confused the map will show you are in the hostel already only to find out it's a different property (tricky) the hostel is actually right at the back of the pointed property. The hostel is in front of the carpark, it's not very obvious...

I spent four days staying at this hostel. The rooms are clean, bed is comfortable. It has a very comfortable common room where travelers gather, there are also books/notes, you can draw anything you like or just simply write in your impressions. The most attractive spot is wall covered by Tanaka-san's grandmas paintings which makes it very artsy. But above all, this ho...

We spent only a short amount of time there. The staff was friendly and helpful. The mixed dorm is on underground level so the room is very dark and quite damp. They are trying to solve it but you can feel it. The value is not the best I've seen in Kyoto.

The residence is about 5 minutes away from Kyoto station and Aeon Mall, it is also near an authentic ramen noodle shop. We liked how the residence was able to send detailed instructions of how to get there, how to access the house and the rooms as well. The tatami mats and futons were a beautiful touch to the room. The rooms were very clean and simple. The bathroom a...

We rented room for 3 of us. This guesthouse is spacious for Japanese standard. There's washing machine, stove, fridge, complete amenities In bathroom. There's 3 comfortable single bed. Less than 5mins you will reach bus station, 10mins to train station. There's are many eateries and convenient store nearby. The best part is, the price is very reasonable and I will...

My mother and I stayed at Lantern for two nights in mid-April of 2014. It was towards the end of cherry blossom season, and we had a lovely time. After walking about 10-15 minutes from the Kyoto station, we arrived at Guest House Lantern. Takeshi (the owner) provided us with recommendations on where to go and how to get there while using a handy bus map he had readily ...

Very impressed with the facilities (clean, new and almost complete) Friendly staff They give a very clear instructions on how to get to the guesthouse in their Facebook page. I have no problem in searching for the hotel. Do check on their videos in their FB. I have no problem with the check in. They help to store my luggage and carry them to the room once the room is ...

Staff were happy to assist, but pay attention to what they tell you to do, because Japanese culture is structured and not appreciative of rowdiness, loudness, sloppiness, or inconsiderateness in a hotel environment. Even sh*tfaced drunk salarymen will still behave sensibly here. Anyway, this place was very good value for the money. Very comfortable. Not very easy l...

Staff performance was outstanding. Very helpful with maps and direction/travel advice. They provide luggage storage until 10pm. There's a bus stop right outside to take you to the golden temple and other key tourist locations. You can buy an all day bus ticket for 500yen. Common room was fantastic. Met some interesting travelers to dine and explore Gion with. Beds ...

This is a beautifully-designed hostel that makes you feel like you're not staying in a hostel. The dorm space is spacious & really clean. I like the lounge area- nice area to chill & read a book. Location is really good. Short walk from Exit 4 of Jingu Marutamachi station. 2 stops away from Gion. About 15-20mins walk to Imperial Palace. And there are direct buses near...

I spent one night in this hostel, and it was quite an amazing place to stay. I checked in at around 11pm, and when I went inside the common area was quite noisy and happening, as people were making new friends and chatting. But when the time almost reached 12am they started to stop and went back to sleep, which was good to me as I'd prefer more quiet and cozy resting ...

Impressive experience for tourist who never plans to stay in hostel & never be in Kyoto. As a Kyoto tourist, all we need from the accommodation is the cozy night to re-charge for fresh morning, where is convenient to hop around Kyoto, and Kyoto Hostel Ryokan serves these with comfortable & flexible level. The location is good, only few minute walk to Jujo subway sta...

The staffs are nice and helpful. They provide much useful information. They are from different countries so that there is no language issue. You can talk in English, Chinese, Japanese, etc. The breakfast is so good!! It will keep you from oversleeping every morning. The location of the hostel is 2 minuets walkways from subway and bus stop. It is convenient to transfer t...

The hostel is easy to locate. Just 2min walk from Higashiyama subway station and 3min walk from Higashiyama Sanjo bus station. Located in the Furukawa shopping street. Walking distance to Gion and Karawamachi district. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My booking was 5nights stay in female dormitory however I was given 3 nights stay in their private room! Stayed for 2 weeks, and had a great stay. Clean rooms and beds were cleaned for every new guest. Very friendly staff (they let me study in the sake bar downstairs and gave me recommendations on food). Distance from the station was under 5-minute walk, and the view of the city from the 3rd floor was beautiful.

In this hostel, I made a lot of friends. All the staff can speck English and all of them are so NICE! Also, there is cooking facilities, that's well for the meal arrangement. Japanese living style hostel, very clean. Close to Nijo castle and Kyoto Imperial palace, I can walk to these two spots. Around the environment it is so quiet so you can have a nice sleep. Low pri...

Great value for money. I was in a room with 4 other fellas and not even a curtain to separate us, but it's exactly what we paid for. Nice, friendly staff. Decent food. Great location. Maybe not for miserables that want everything just like it is at home though.

Pros: The guesthouse is located close to JR tambaguchi sta. and 1 minute walk from bus stop. They sends a "how to reach" guide which is very helpful. The owner is very friendly with good English. The facilities are clean and adequate, a good value for money. It was easy to socialize with fellow travelers too. Overall, I am very happy with my stay and definitely return....

Stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights, and was glad to have picked Ebi. The location itself is quite central, within walking distance to many places, and with easy access to those further off by nearby bus and metro lines. The owner is very friendly, socializing with guests at the hostel and even taking us out to some of his favourite local spots. The beds are also quite spacio...

I have stayed in a LOT of hostels/guesthouses during my travels and this one ranks in my top three. Itoya is a veritable oasis of peace and cleanliness. The staff is very polite, the facilities are spotless, and the entire place is steeped in traditional Japanese charm. The location is fairly central, but located off a quiet side street. The price is extremely reasonab...

I stayed 2 night in Mondo, the location is ok, there is bus and supermarket nearby, walked further has train station. It is a traditional Japanese house. You can use kitchen to cook. The staffs are very nice, they can give you the best advice in Kyoto. Even there is tourist map on the wall, mark the entrance ticket, the distance for you considering. There is tatami liv...

Went to 4 different capsule hostels on my trip in Japan and i think this hostel is the best so far. I stayed in a single room for 3 nights and my stay was great!!! The place looks new and is very clean. There's a toilet in every floor but the shower rooms are only on the 2nd floor. Although there are only 3 showers, I never had to wait maybe because I wake up early. There is no elevator but the property manager will help you bring your luggage. He seems to be very ni...

Our group of three friends really enjoyed our stay at The Limelight Kyoto Hotel's apartment (No.4) on 3rd Floor. We were pleasantly surprised with the friendly and welcoming staff, cleanliness, finding all facilities of great comfort and best value for money. This was probably the best hostel i have stayed and super good for the value of money. The hostel was a little hard to find initially, but its definitely worth the find. They guided and provided few suggestions during my stay there. ...

Really lovely, quiet, and peaceful place to stay. Out of the main tourist area, so not convenient for those attractions if that’s why you’re in Kyoto. For me, that was the attraction! I’d already “seen the sites” on a previous trip, so I really wanted to experience a different side to Kyoto. Recommended!

This is a great choice for anyone looking for a hostel that goes above and beyond the norm in Kyoto. The facilities are spacious and a LOT nicer than other options, to the point where it might be the nicest hostel I've stayed in. The rates are a little higher than other options nearby, but I think it's well worth it. Highly recommended

Best hostel in Japan so far!!! I stayed the Webase Kyoto hostel on November when my Japan sim card had a problem. So I was embarrassed. I met Korean staff who gave many kindness. She was awesome. Imaya hostel is a cozy privately owned hostel, amidst all attractions and right in downtown Kyoto. The hostel is clean, has comfy beds (a rarity in Japan!), has all amenities, and the host is extremely helpful in pointing you to the popular (and hidden!) gems of this town. Breakfast and tasty coffee is available for a small fee, as well as cheap rentals of everything a...

checking in to this gorgeous traditional townhouse we were greeted in person by the super friendly staff who gave us a tour of the house and went through all the information about the surrounding area with us. the inn is beautifully furnished in the traditional way, including a small garden way, but still has all the mod cons. the inn is located only a few mins ...

Traveler impressions of Kyoto
Great place to visit, lots of old/historical sites to see, mixture of modern shopping and relaxing areas.
I loveeeee Kyoto! Kyoto has impressed me so sooo much, this city has been one of my dream destination since The memory of Geisha movie.
many streets.morning and nights have its special.walking all is not enough.many things to buy at the Big Camera.
Kyoto is a fun city with a lot of attractions. It's easy to get around but I wouldn't recommend more than 3 days as there are a LOT of shrines and temples.
it is such a cosy, cultural, accessible and friendly city! it sounds royal and big but really a perfect sized destination for a 4-5 nights stay!
Beautiful city, culturally magnificent, easy to get around, transportation excellent and very clean! Food is reasonably priced if you know where you to go to eat.
Kyoto has many well-preserved historic places of interest. It is the main place to see all things unique to Japan.
If you are a sporty type, just skip the crowded bus system entirely and rent a good bike! I've done Kyoto by bike 5 times now and as long as it ain't raining, bike is the WAY to go!
i cant think of any reason not going to kyoto in a lifetime. i visited to kyoto during the red leafs high season.
Kyoto has lots of culture and sightseeing places. Good variety of restaurants. Bus system is easy to use and to get around town.
my husband and i really enjoyed kyoto. alot to see, many temples, shrines. shopping is amazing. you never have to leave the kyoto station.
The temples is beautiful & attractive. However, the season (begining Nov)I went the leaves still not turn to red color a bit disappoint.
We spent two nights and one whole day. We visited the Arashiyama bamboo forest, the Romantic Scenic Railway and Sanjusangen-do.
Will come back again, wearing kimono leisure walk along the streets its really enjoy, recommended !!!
A combined bus and subway pass is a great way to get around Kyoto. There a a number of great temples, castles, etc for sightseeing.
Kyoto is an ancient city that last for more than a thousand year, thus it has a lot of old, historical places, and also temples.
If you are a culture buff, this is the place for you. I love how they try to preserve their culture.
Kyoto is a must to see in Japan, plenty of amazing temples, spectacular gardens, very vibrant city. In my opinion the gloden Kinkakuji pavilion in northen part of the city is the best what tourist can see in Kyoto.
make sure to stop by at the shopping streets near Gion. there is a lot of fine quality tea shops along the area
There is so much to see in and around Kyoto. We stayed three days, but would definitely return and stay longer.
It's really nice to visit the different temples, the famous bridge, food is absolutely amazing! I highly recommend to go to Osaka too!
Kyoto is the quintessential "old Japan." Go and don't stay for less than two nights. For nightlife, people who don't want to go to Snack/Pub hostess bars or the few nightclubs near Kiyamachi go to Osaka instead, but everything is great here: history, culture, architecture, nature!
A big city with a lot of trains underground.. It is helpful to have some one who knows Japanese if you want to take trains or buses.
Love this small little town that is full of historical. If you love culture, this is a town for you.
Google map is very helpful, it will recommend you how to take a bus / MTR and the roads are not complicated to find.
We need some special information about Kyoto to enjoy eating and shopping. Ask them to a driver of Hotel coach! You might get a nice one.
Kyoto is very clean and safe. It is easy to get around. There is a lot to see and do especially if you are into culture and or religion.
Kyoto is a unique mix of heritage, culture and yet modern at the same time. Plenty of things to do, little alleys to wander around.
Kyoto gives us a glimpse of the traditional Japanese, the food, the numerous shrines and temples and even the old buildings.
Amazing Kyoto. We visited Nijo Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Silver Pavilion, Gion area. Very impressive.
