Surpassed our expectations”
The staff were really kind and it was from the heart. It was clean and pleasant. The outdoor onsen is really nice (we didn't use the upstairs indoor one). We enjoyed the free all-you-can-eat ice cream and they gave us baked melon bread in the morning as we checked out. They also gave guests free matcha and/or green tea (I think that it was due to excess stock as a result of covid, but it was nonetheless a much-appreciated gesture). The hotel is older and there might be some little things that need touching up, but the price reflects this, and besides, those things don't personally bother me. I liked the style and layout of the room, and the location is nice as it's right next to the little park and nature. We live in Sapporo and I go to Akan regularly, so we will definitely try to stay here again.

Free flow beverages and ice-cream at the lobby”
It was really nice to have a cup of hot beverage at the lobby after returning from trips, and it was even free-flow. The staff are welcoming, helping to carry our luggage and serving welcome desserts. The hot spring was nice. The indoor hot spring was large and spacious. The outdoor hot spring was perfectly designed to avoid strong winds. The location was good. Can reach the jetty and many restaurants on foot. I definitely recommend this hotel!

Well maintained hotel”
This is an old but well maintained hotel situated at the end of the lake akan area. It is a really value for money hotel with decent breakfast and dinner, snow crab on the 2nd nite. The fruit provided with the dinner was juicy sweet. The view of lake akan from the hotel was fantastic, the area behind the hotel was gorgeous with red, orange and yellow autumn leaves which was great for photo taking.

Big Japanese style room”
We booked for a Japanese style room, the size of the room was huge. However our room is not facing the Lake Akan which we are hoping in the first place. Great location, just besides Lake Akan and Akan Mashu National Park. We spent our morning walk around National Park and it was so beautiful during winter.

Good value for money, but public areas need update”
This hotel is located in the Onsen town and is close to the lake and one of the boat terminals. Nice big room and good meals, but the common areas like Onsen and corridors is quite dated and require remodeling or upgrade vs other hotels in this area.

One of the best in its price category”
The location is at the end of the main road, and between the hotel and the main district, there is no shop nor food at night. You would need to walk 10mins to the main district where most of the shopping and food are at. We had a rented car, so it was not a problem for us, 1-2mins drive. The hotel faces the sunset, from the room I stayed, I had a almost perfect view of sunset, and I have a good view of all the other hotels along the coast of the lake. From my perspective overseeing other hotels, I believe this is the only hotel with a good view of sunset without popping your head out of the window. The room was very clean, we had a room with two twin beds and includes a Japanese style tatami area, its a huge room considering that many hotels in japan are relatively small sized. Most of the staffs at the lobby do not speak english well, but always try their best to communicate with us when we need help. Perfect customer service I would say. You can see the sincerity of wanting to help you with your queries. Breakfast and dinner was alright, not exceeding expectations.

Fine but noisy”
The Akankoso is fine if you want to take a quick trip to Akanko. However, from about 6am, it's so LOUD. So many people in the corridor with absolutely no consideration of other guests. Children screaming and shouting and singing. The walls and doors are paper-thin so you'll hear every word. I was woken up at 2am by the people next door having a normal conversation. So it's fine for a short stay, but I wouldn't want to spend more than a night or two.

Beautiful and Serene”
Even though the hotel is a bit dated, it wasn't an issue. We had a wonderful 2 nights stay at this hotel. The view from our room on Level 4 facing the lake was beautiful. Coffee was served at the lobby, even though it was self-service. Wi-fi was only in the Lobby. We were given cash vouchers upon check-in, that could be used at most of the shops or restaurants at the lake. We used it to pay for our cruise around the lake. The reception staff was exceptional. They accommodated our request for an early breakfast on our check-out morning. They even packed little donuts for our bus trip and drove us to the bus station.

Hotel next to the ferry. Convenient. ”
Overall it's a good hotel with clean room. Set meals provided for both breakfast and dinner were not really enough for my husband though.
