Hotel Altstadt Vienna - sensuality and style in Spittelberg, Vienna’s historic and artistic quarter. Jam-packed with modern art, this unique boutique hotel is housed in a 19th-century Patrician town house in a quiet part of Vienna, just a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Expect wonderfully stylish rooms, inviting lounges with open fireplaces and a truly welcoming atmosphere. Spread across five floors, modern works of art by mostly contemporary Austrian artists like Markus Prachensky or Alex Ruthner, but also international legends like Andy Warhol and Annie Leibovitz, decorate the walls throughout the hotel. Rooms, suites and apartments range from classic modernity to stylish decadence, and each room is different and unique.
Wake to a sumptuous breakfast – according to rumors the best in town - before heading out to the vibrant city of Vienna. Return in the afternoon to enjoy complimentary tea & homemade cake next to the cozy fireplace or treat yourself with a sundowner at the rooftop terrace.
The Altstadt Vienna - a refreshing source of Viennese joie de vivre, a refuge, where we can all be as we are. This is evident above all in the people who inspire their souls at the leading boutique hotel in Vienna.

Nice and Quirky hotel in Vienna”
It's a nice and quirky hotel in Vienna. Around 20 mins walk to the middle of Vienna city. We booked a standard double room. Room was actually not really big. Pretty much of a business hotel size. The staff from the breakfast buffet and tea time were all helpful and nice. Overall it was good stay except the room size. I loved the breakfast and lounge area we could spend the time everyday. You'd want to probably go for a bigger room if you don't wanna squeeze 2 people with your big luggage in a standard room.
Hotel Altstadt is a charming, artistic small luxury hotel in prime location for museum exploring”
The hotel offers wonderful comforts such as nice sitting rooms where you can enjoy tea from an extensive selection during the tea service, or order special drinks. The breakfast buffet is simply remarkable and you can order special requests. We loved the variety of vitamin shots (fresh fruit drinks) and healthful breakfast options. The bed was comfortable and had down comforters. We always travel with our own down pillows, but it was unnecessary as the hotel offers them. But the location was prime for accessing the fabulous cultural opportunities Vienna has to offer and we were treated like family by the the helpful and friendly staff. We would stay again without question.
Perfect base for our long weekend in Vienna”
Having been to many hotels throughout Europe, Hotel Altstadt was without doubt, one of the most stylish, accommodating, people focused places we've ever stayed. The room was immaculate and full of character; the location perfect; whilst the staff couldn't do any more to help with any queries and always with a smile on their faces. Would highly recommend! :)
Exquisite and charming ”
One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The staff are professional, charming and friendly - always happy to advise on restaurants, transport, sightseeing etc. We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling rose and cake and invited to sit in their beautiful salon to wait while the checkin was completed. Such a refreshing change from so many other hotels. The salon is a collection of small rooms, beautifully furnished and decorated with art. Our room was a spacious apartment with an enormous bathroom - freestanding bath, large walk-in shower, great lighting and spotlessly clean. The bed was excellent quality and the rooms were quiet. Breakfast was one of the best ever - berries, many cereal choices, cold meats, tomato salads, wonderful cheeses, Kusmi French teas - on top of this there is a 3 course daily menu offered! Don’t hesitate - just book your room now! You will be delighted
It is lovely hotel”
Really good experience at this hotel, each room with different style, you can try to find a really modern place with good location, visit museums by foot just 15 minutes, have a lot of good restaurant and bar near by, if I back to Vienna, of course I will stay here.
Sublime hotel - our highest recommendation”
This small hotel is a lovely, utterly charming place to stay, and an excellent value. The staff couldn't have been nicer. We had signed up for a daytrip to Melk Abbey and needed to confirm at the last minute. The staff went out of their way to call the tour company and made sure we would be picked up in front of the hotel the next morning. The breakfast was a wonderful array of fresh fruits, meats, pastries, custom-made omelets, vegetables, etc. The hotel combines old world sensibility with modern comforts and amenities (and some wonderful paintings!) It's located in a quiet, historic neighborhood near Volkstheater and is walking distance to the Museum Quarter.
Fine but good be better”
Hotel common parts were being refurbished whilst we were there which was disappointing. Would not have stayed had we known. No greeting on arrival or anyone to tell tired travelliers to make their way to first floor reception. Bedroom and bathroom very nicely appointed and comfortable although oddly no mirrors in bedroom or ante-hall. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast excellent;'Teatime' was not. Good postion in Vienna. A good hotel but could be better with more thought to the customer experience.
Lovely base from which to explore Vienna”
Spent a very pleasant weekend in the Altstadt in December. Close to Christmas markets and all the main sites. Trendy part of town. The staff were great, providing lots of good recommendations on places to eat and visit. Highly recommended.
1 night stay was a shame! ”
Everything stood out for me. The staff were nice and polite, breakfast has a pleasant spread. I stayed in the White Suite room and it was absolutely gorgeous and clean. What really got me was that, I felt completely safe, comfortable and at home here. The hotel is also near to museums and the town square if you fancy museum visits. Little corner stores and coffee shop along the way. Perfect location and beautiful interior! Already thinking of coming back.
feel like home”
great location great staff great food. A perfect base to explore Vienna
Altstadt Hotel is a home away from home. It's cozy and offers many common rooms to enjoy. ”
Pros: we stayed in the library Suite which was spacious and quiet. The regular rooms are a good size as well. The breakfast is very generous and unrushed with personal service. The hotel is clean and on a quiet street within walking distance to everything in the ring. Con: if you want to be close to Belvedere Palace then this would be far.
Beautiful gem just outside the center”
Beautiful unique hotel in a great location just 20 minutes walk to the heart of the city. Really close to all the great museums. The room was very nice with a great shower! Breakfast was also a treat with all the things you could want, including eggs made to order. Staff were extremely helpful. I'll definitely be back in my next visit.
a great hotel”
a very pleasant experience staying in the Alstadt Vienna.
Excellent position and value for inner Vienna
Hotel was great from staff to facilities. The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast had numerous offerings with choice of made to order hot items daily. Would definitely stay again.
a good choice”
Not very far away from the bus/metro and you can almost go anywhere on foot. The room is quite clean and nice. For me, the price is a bit expensive, but still acceptable. Anyway, I like it.
More like serviced apartments than a hotel”
This is more like serviced apartments than a hotel. It is in a block of flats, with private occupiers on other floors. We were given a free upgrade to a suite but it was drab and uninspiring. It did not look like the photos on the website and neither did the corridors leading to our rooms. You use the public stairs to get to what they call the 'salon' which is basically an apartment or apartments which have been converted to be the communal areas of the 'hotel', with lounges and dining areas. I don't know how it has such a high rating. We thought that it was overcharging and underperforming.
3 star prices - 5 star ambience”
Stylish hotel 15 walk to town centre. lots of nice restaurants locally. No hotel restaurant but excellent breakfast in classy surroundings. Will return.
Very excellent staff”
Although i think the price of hotel is a little bit high, attitude of staff is very exellent. If you get a reasonable price for your reservation in any site, i woud recommend this hotel for your wien stay!
Fantastic breakfast ”
Although we liked the hotel and thought it was good value (due to the breakfast) the rooms need to be updated and cleaned better. The top of the bed and lamps were really dusty and there were splatters of water from the sink all over the bathroom wall. A simple lick of paint and updating lamps would do the trick, we were in the chocolate room (36). We did love the breakfast room and options that were all inclusive. Couldn't find staff when we needed them and they don't do feather pillows so a little bit of an uncomfortable sleep for a 4 star hotel. Location is great.
