Average facilities at a wonderful location ”
Great location. Cleanliness of room is acceptable. washroom is huge,l though facilities are average. Hot water isn't working accordingly and some bugs could be found in the washroom. Breakfast was acceptable and served on time. Special mention should goes to one service staff, who served us attentively with care. Overall it can be considered as valuable for the price paid.

Would not recommend this hotel”
View of lake, short tuk tuk to town
We had 3 nights at this hotel and it was not a pleasant stay. We had to move to a bigger move after arriving at the first room which had sewerage smell ants inside it. The next room had a nice view of the lake and was spacious. The staff were quite pushy and beware of the tuk tuk driver waiting outside the hotel trying to rip you off and insisting on tours every time you see him. Food was average and usually sserved cold. We would not stay here again!

Good location, definitely worth considering”
1) Value for money 2) Good staff 3) Nice view from room
We stayed in the triple bed room for 2 days in Hotel Amaara Lake in the first week of Oct'14. Location is perfect, not too far on the hill like most of the hotels in Kandy nor on the road. Its an easy climb of 10 mins and definitely worth it. View from the room is nice and you can see Kandy lake clearly. We did have some problems finding the hotel as our auto driver was an inexperienced person and he took us on a different hill route and over-charged us. Best to take clear directions from the hotel manager before hand. Auto should not charge more than SLR 200 from the bus stand (with luggage). All key places in Kandy are in walking distance from this hotel and this saves you lot of time, money and energy. The triple room was spacious with a large bathroom. It has a slight old style look but the facilities in the hotel are good, including a fast wi-fi not only in the lobby but also in the room, good TV, mosquito net (though we did not face any issues of mosquito since we kept the windows closed in the evening). Water is moderately hot and there is a fixed shower. This hotel is moderately price and well worth your money. Room with the view is undoubtedly the best. Rooms are clean. Clean linen and the room was ready well in advance before we reached. For a moderate budget traveler, this place is definitely worth recommending. Breakfast is good too with fruits, eggs and bread toasts.

So so”
Lovely housekeeper, location, view
We were the only guests so tried for an upgrade to the room with the view but to no avail. Fine, but the standard room had lots of bugs (2 inch big spider, lizards,LOTS of mozzies, etc), just one power plug which the fan took up. Bed got me all itchy although I couldn't say if there were bedbugs. The housekeeper was a lovely old guy with minimal English but the boss kept trying to overcharge for tuktuk/car/tour services. The location is pretty good though, just a 5-10min walk plus another 2 mins uphill climb away from everything. Spend a little more on a better place to stay is my advice.

Ants in my pants”
view from the restaurant, juice on arrival, close to the lake
First impressions of this hotel were great, we were greeted warmly and loved the size and layout of our room. Perhaps it was poor timing (we arrived during a religious holiday) but the kitchen was "closed" when we got back from our evening walk (around 7). We asked if the restaurant was open first as the lights were off, they said yes then after waiting 20mins for our order to be taken we were told they couldn't make curry as it would take too long. We were advised to head back into town but by this point we were too tired so we went to bed hungry. Back in our room we discovered an army of tiny ants were crawling over our bags and it took us a while to rid ourselves of the pests which had come from behind the mirror and nestled in our clothes. The walls of our room were paper thin, so between the lobby tv outside our room and the guests next door we struggled to get to sleep until past midnight and were woken again at dawn. Breakfast was basic but at least it was food. The staff seemed in a hurry for us to eat and vacate the room, even though we were told check out was 11.30am. I'm sure our experience was an exceptional one, but we were all too happy to be moving on to a different location.

perfect location ”
perfect location, the white haired man working there is very friendly and nice, big room
We enjoyed our short stay, the location was great you don't need a tuk tuk even though the hotel owners always want to get you one. The mattress was too old and layed through...not very comfortable. also the bathroom wasn't that clean. ants everywhere. but it's good value for money.

Nice view of Kandy Lake”
good location, spacios room, helpful staff
The circumstances were good enough to take a rest after a long journey. It was quiet and I could get a nice scenery of Kandy lake as well as the Temple of tooth from the window. The location of this hotel is also very good as it is 10 minutes walk from the center of Kandy. However, please take care of the TukTuk driver belonging to this hotel who tried to get unreasonable price. The price is 200Rs from the hotel to the center of Kandy at the maximum.

Best breakfast in Sri Lanka!”
Superb breakfast, pretty close to the city, fantastic view
The hotel is a little up the hillside with a great view over Kandy. The breakfast was superb - the best we have got in Sri Lanka. The room was big but not that well furnished
