Beautiful hotel in a peaceful neighborhood”
Just a few blocks from Kujo station, the hotel is very accessible. The interiors were well-decorated with really nice artworks. The room was comfortable. The lobby was beautiful and the staff in the reception area were super helpful. They had umbrellas guests can borrow for rainy mornings 😂 I walked from the hotel to To-ji. 💯💯💯 Will stay here again when I come back to Kyoto.

Good value and friendly, efficient staff”
Overall, it was an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Anteroom Kyoto. As I spent most of my time out sightseeing, my time in the hotel was mainly for rest/sleep. It provided that well with a clean, spacious (relative to Japanese hotels and at this great value) and quiet room to do that. Housekeeping was done efficiently while the reception staff (and all staff in general) were polite and spoke good English. Fumiko-san in particular was very helpful and approachable. While the hotel's location requires at least a 10 minute walk from Kyoto Station, it is a straightforward walk (safe and quiet too) and along the way you will find some convenience stores and dining options. There is a subway station closer to the hotel if required but since I had the JR pass, I just used Kyoto station and walked. Hotel Anteroom Kyoto also provided a in-room info-brochure/magazine that pointed out two or three dining options closer to the hotel - unfortunately I didn't read it until before I checked out so never did try them. The hotel has a breakfast buffet at 1,000 yen which I didn't try either but it looked good value with a main course, smoothie, dessert and other options. The only bad point I would mention is that my room's toilet did smell a little strange but in the end I believe it was either the lavender shampoo or coconut (or something) body wash they provided (they did smell great when used though). Nevermind though as you just needed to turn on the air cycling ventilation thingie and that'd fix it. Oh yes, you do need to step up to the toilet so just be careful when you come out. Free self-laundry machines which is a major plus. They also have a nice lounge area on the first floor which I saw quite a number of people use which was nice.

Hipster heaven?”
Joking in the title aside, Hotel Anteroom Kyoto was a refreshing change from the already-excellent hotels I've stayed at until this point during my first trip to Japan. Some solo travellers may find the single room to be too small for their liking - I'll admit that my room was a bit cramped, but given how beautiful Kyoto is, as a small base to take a break at once or twice a day, the small size didn't bother me that much. What really worked for me were the facilities at the hotel and the small list of what's available on the street the hotel is located on. Facilities-wise, you'll only need to spend 200-300 yen if you need to get some laundry done yourself, and if you do that during the night, you can wait for everything to be done in style at the hotel bar. As for the latter, that's how I found myself eating my first ramen in Japan, and how I found out about the best little bakery I've ever been to, anywhere in the world. First-time travellers to Kyoto booking a stay at this hotel may be a bit confused as to how to get to this hotel from Kyoto Station. Take the green subway line towards the south and get off at either Kujo or Jujo - the hotel is located on a major side street between the two stations.

Great Chic Hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay at Anteroom. They immediately upgraded our room because we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and gave us a complimentary drink at the bar each night. The beds were comfortable, the water pressure for the shower was great, the room and bathroom were extremely clean and cleaned well each day. We had breakfast each morning, which was very pleasant and they provided a different menu each morning on top of the basic muesli, yoghurt, salads etc. The hotel itself is very cool and chic. Self-service laundry was extremely easy and it is approximately an 8-10 minute walk away from the subway, which is one stop away from Kyoto. Staff were also extremely friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for somewhere cheap/reasonably priced and don't mind being slightly away from the center (but an easy access to the center of town), then book a room at Anteroom.

Excellent staff. Comfortable lobby. Standard room.”
The reception staff at Anteroom were very friendly and extremely helpful during my stay. Not only were they able to provide me information I needed on public transportation and airport bus schedules, they also helped pack and send my parcels (local express delivery). The experience of drinking their complimentary drink at the bar after a long day is pleasant and there are several Kyoto magazines (Japanese) available for reading. I stayed in the single room, which is very compact. The bathroom is slightly elevated and may be a little inconvenient for some people. The hotel is located in a very quiet neighborhood and a bit of a walk from Kujo station. It may not be close to main tourist spots, but the hotel is within taxi flag-down fare distance and one subway station from Kyoto Station. There are a few buses within walking distance that bring you to many Kyoto attractions. I really loved the lavender shampoo and conditioner, which unlike most hotels, even 5-star ones, actually makes your hair smooth and smells good.

Everything about this hotel is great”
anteroom hotel is a very nice hotel, with a resonable price but full of comforts and friendly staff. the hotel is easy to find, 15 minute walk from kyoto station, really easy to find. the design of the hotel is really cool and minimalist. the hall is really big and you can relax there, with free wifi and 2 computers to use. also there is free cofee, which is not a bad thing. there is a restaurant in the first floor, not really cheap but worth trying it. there is also a smoking room, a vending machine, and free to use laundry machines. the room was really comfortable, and quite big for japanese standards. expecially i liked very much the bathroom, with the washlet. everything was really clean and confortable. i suggest this hotel to everyone, especially on the first time in kyoto

Design conscious hotel; great service!”
I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Anteroom. It is not as close to Kyoto station as I expected from reviews; by walking it probably takes 15 minutes, by subway it is one stop away from Kyoto station. I was really impressed with how attentive the staff were. When arriving to the hotel, the staff quickly provided us with hot towels to freshen up with (it was a HOT day). Also on another day, we were caught outside in the pouring rain without umbrellas. By the time we got to the hotel, we were soaking wet. One of the staff members happened to be walking out as we were walking in. He quickly ran in and got another person to bring towels for us. It was very nice. There's also free use of the washing machines which was nice after accumulating a few days of dirty laundry!

comfortable and convenient”
This is my second time to review Hotel Anteroom. For my needs, it is the most satisfactory hotel I have found in Kyoto. Not a tourist, I go there to reconnect with colleagues, neighbors, and friends, so convenience is most important. A free laundry with laundry soap, art gallery in the lobby, good free coffee, a wonderful breakfast and a knowledgeable and helpful staff make it a positive experience for me. The only thing that has changed is that some deep cleaning is required - I noticed that the bathrooms need an uplift and deep cleaning. Otherwise, I couldn't be more satisfied. It's basically a very clean and reasonable place, and one can feel right at home there.I will stay again!

Stylish and clean”
I am a frequent visitor of Kyoto. This was my first stay at Hotel Anteroom Kyoto. Comparing to my previous experience with other hotels in the same price range, this one is as clean as other and more stylish. Free laundry service is very convenient. Location is good for those who would like to stay close to Kyoto Station.

definitely the best place to stay in Kyoto!”
friends who stayed here a year ago recommended Anteroom and only had good words about the place so when it was our time to visit Kyoto we booked it right away. It did not disappoint, it was the BEST we have stayed in Japan! the rate is very affordable for the quality of the place! the location is just 5 minutes away from the Kyoto Station (since we came from Osaka) and the location is so peaceful and quiet plus there's a supermarket in front and a good Okonomiyaki restaurant nearby. The place is so modern, artsy and relaxed plus the staff is so friendly and nice they let us use the bikes for free. Too bad we only stayed there for a day but we will surely go back and stay there longer on our next visit to Kyoto!

HOme Again”
This, I was told, is my 12th stay at Anteroom. This morning at the breakfast-to-die-for (every day), I met a Spaniard who was on his 5th. If it fits your lifestyle, this place is so satisfactory. If you are a tourist looking for fancy surroundings and room service, not for you. If you want to meet interesting people, count on efficient service, and be in a relaxing and energetic environment, please stay here. Some features: *small but clean rooms with daily room service and all essentials *comfortable bar *caring, energetic staff artsy environment - rotating exhibits *diverse guest list *inexpensive for Kyoto *fairly convenient location *

Modern travel”
I loved this hotel. Aside from the hotel itself -- which is fresh and new and modern -- the neighborhood is quiet and there are local inexpensive food shoos and restaurants nearby. It takes 15 minutes to walk to Kyoto Station. This is a huge resource for tourist information. I'd end my day by dropping in to see these specialists to plan the following day. Then go back to the Anteroom and soak in a hot bath. There is a stylish late-night bar and a wonderful dining area for an early-morning breakfast. And free wifi.

Highly recommended”
I really enjoyed my 5 night stay here. I used the hotel as a base for visiting the sights in and around Kyoto. As a female solo traveler I felt safe and well looked after. This hotel is definitely more modern Japan and not traditional. There is even acontemporary art gallery in the foyer area. It's within walking distance (about 10-15 minutes if Kyoto station), in a quiet, residential neighbourhood. If you don't want to walk that far, there is a subway stop closer by that gets you to Kyoto Station in just one minute. There isn't much in terms of restaurant and bars in the immediate neighbourhood, but that didn't bother me at all and I felt save returning after I'd been out in the dark. The hotel does offer breakfast for 1000 ¥, which I didn't try and there is a relaxed hotel bar. The room was a good size for Japanese standards and very clean and well equipped. Considering the price, I wouldn't have expected that high a standard at all. I'd happily stay there again.

Design hotel”
The Anteroom hotel is a bit out of the most popular regions of Kyoto (south of Kyoto station), but close to a subway. The hotel itself is rather new and looks great in terms of design. The rooms are a bit larger and more luxurious than standard. Very nice atmosphere and great value!

Unbeatable!”
This is really worthy of the money spent. I certainly did not expect the impeccable standards renderredby Hotel Anteroom. Room was spotless, environment was comfortable with its contemporary designs, coupled with perfect services. This utterly surpasses any other renowned five-star hotels out there. I was really pleased when the staff helped me to locate my phone that I left in a taxi. They were really quick and resourceful and the phone was returned back to my hands faster than I thought. You see, it is this kind of extra-mile actions that will make a business soar. Continue with the superb level of service standards and see you at the top of the hospitality field. I will definitely spread good words and be back again. ;)

Excellent hotel in underrated location”
The rooms here were excellent for the price, I was impressed. Lots of space, nice extras like toothbrushes, sleepsuits, lovely hair and bath stuff, that sort of thing: all common enough in Japan, but I was amazed at the quality of these things given the hotel's very good rates. Comfy beds - the pillow was a bit small, and two might be a good idea, but other than that the room was extremely comfortable. The whole place was also really clean and well kept. I was on the second floor and got a good night's sleep every night. Quiet location. It is 15 mins' walk south of Kyoto station. I actually preferred this to staying north of Kyoto station, which is more popular: it was quieter, but still had plenty convenience stores and places to eat nearby (we didn't try the hotel food as the restaurant was closed 2 of the 3 days I was there), with the added advantage of being easier to get to at peak times, and being near stations that serve interesting tourist towns such as Nara and Uji. Also really close to beautiful shrines at temples at Inari and Tofukuji, which was wonderful! Would absolutely stay here again - as would my Japanese friend who stayed at the same time I did. We loved it!
