Originally built in 1890 as a Roman Catholic orphanage, the former St. Elisabeth building is a stylish hotel today. Fully renovated in 2006, the 4-star Hotel Arena offers an innovative approach to inner-city accommodation, priding itself on hosting many local and international cultural events, giving it a reputation as one of Amsterdam's creative hotspots. Rooms at this remarkable hotel are of a minimalist style with the emphasis on style and comfort, featuring cutting-edge designs complimented by timber floors and high ceilings. Many of the city's attractions are within walking distance of the hotel, including the Zoo Artis, Tropenmuseum, and the Dappermarket. The city center is just 15 minutes away, and for those wishing to explore a little further afield, Amsterdam's network of public transport is right there, connecting the entire city.

What a Gem”
We stayed at Hotel Arena for three nights, the final leg of our six week European holiday before the long flight home to Australia. What a gem it is! It is located within a former Catholic orphanage, so access from the street is not ideal and there are parts of the hotel which are not in pristine condition. For us this jut added to the appeal. Our room was modern, spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff are courteous, friendly and efficient. Step out the front door and you are in the stunningly beautiful Oostpark. Here a fascinating glimpse of the real Amsterdam is on show at any time of the day, a million miles away from the regular tourist traps. This hotel carries our strongest possible recommendation.
Gorgeous Hotel in Gorgeous Park”
I want to stay in Hotel Arena every single time I'm in Amsterdam. The rooms are gorgeous and the staff is wonderful. It's located in a park that is beautiful and scenic. It's in a really quiet area. I would say for the price you should get just one or two additional amenities (like toiletries/lotion/etc) but I'm happy to pay again for the service and atmosphere. The size of the rooms is great and the bed is very comfortable. It is a bit far away from the center - about a 30-40min walk, so if you prioritize being in the middle of all the action, this is not the hotel for you.
Exactly what we were hoping for”
While not in the center of Amsterdam, Hotel Arena is very close to all of the action. It's just a short walk to the tram and only a 15 min walk into the city center. The staff was friendly and helpful in helping us get around and the rooms were clean and bright. There was construction at the time of the visit, but we didn't hear any noise and the hotel generously gave us two free drinks to apologize for the work.
Unexpected quality for the price.”
I had a great time at the Hotel Arena. It's not in the centre of Amsterdam but it is within walking distance (it's a nice walk too) and close to trams. The bed was comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. The rooms are designed well with light decor for the room and black tiles for the bathroom. I would of loved a bath in the room. The staff are friendly and I was able to check-in earlier than the stated time which was a godsend after my long trip from Australia. The buffet breakfast wasn't included in the price however I paid for it one morning and the offering was great and well worth the money. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Exceeded expectation. ”
We had a great experience, in fact it was the best thing of our Amsterdam stay. In the beginning they were unable to find our booking and made us wait for 20 mins and gave us a free beverage coupons. But later when they found it, they provided us with a free up-gradation to their best room, the suite. The room was duplex and huge. The bathroom was humongous. The hotel had very nice interior and exterior. The internet speed was great. Overall it was the best hotel in our 65 days Europe trip.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful, hotel is special because of our past being there before for special reasons and the addition of the new restaurant and bar area was lovely. One gripe regrettably was lack of vegan options on their menu although we did manage just about with sides of vegetables and portions were ok for both of us. Would like to add although not the hotels fault but our taxi back to the airport was frightening with speeds over the limit and careless in our view with the driver playing with his phone too and just wasn’t comfortable at all. I hope this doesn’t happen all the time and maybe the hotel can make a view on this for their customers to be happier and arrive and leave safely. I’ll happily give this hotel a great review as we’ve stayed before a few times and it’s great for walks with the park. As we are an older couple , our room perhaps wasn’t perfect choice as the steep stairs to the bedroom was bit tricky but we survived . All in all we will stay again.
BEst experience ever”
All the personal in Arena was fantastic. Thanks to Daniel that change our room to a safer room for the baby. It was incredible. In recomend the place for families and people who want to rest and also be near to the center. Thanks also to Samuel at the restaurant for the great service and recommendations. Also Mirta on the front desk was really kind!
Great place to stay, but a little pricy for what we got.”
It was a good experience at the Hotel Arena. One thing, since the hotel was expanding, it didn't help with their only entrance and exit through the park, which made it a little effort when checking in or out.
The best hotel in Amsterdam”
I’ve stayed in a few places in Amsterdam but this hotel has become my favorite one. The rooms are decorated with the love for detail and are super cozy. The staff is amazing and the location is a short 5 min drive by bike to the center. Highly recommend this hotel :)
Beautiful hotel ”
We found the hotel was beautiful sat to the corner of Oosterpark, rooms were clean with plenty of space. Breakfasts were great, lots of choice and very tasty. We did find the location was quite out of the way from the centre, it was a good 40 minute walk into the centre, however there was trains and trams if you didn’t want to walk. Would highly recommend hiring a bike from the hotel as it’s a good way of getting around Amsterdam and seeing lots of the parks and canals. All in all a lovely hotel
Funky Hotel, friendly helpful staff,”
we had a great stay in hotel arena, really don't have a bad word to say about the hotel or its staff we really enjoyed our stay there. the hotel was one of the highlights of our stay in what is already a unique city! the location is a little out but the trams are only a 5 minute walk, perfect if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of a very busy city centre?
Great Location, good public transit connection. Duplex rooms not suitable for people, who have problems with steep stairs. Breakfast costs 17,50-19,50€ per Person...is expensive, but Amsterdam is expensive and it is a great looking buffet. Parking is 30€ per 24 Hours....also expensive but nothing cheaper in direct area. Very comfortable bar/Restaurant, and hotel is right beside a lovely park.
Our room was a bit dark, only one small window but we didn’t spend much time in the room so okay The hotel surroundings in the park was beautiful You do need to use the tram system to explore Amsterdam Can purchase tram tickets at the hotel front desk, very convenient
Style over function”
There were things that I liked about Hotel Arena, but definitely things that were disappointing. On the positive side, the room was spacious and the park was beautiful. We also had a king bed, which great. As far as challenges go, the hotel isn't very practical. Firstly, there is no privacy when it comes to the bathroom. The entire bathroom is glass (lightly tinted, not frosted) so anyone you are sharing the room with can see EVERYTHING that you are doing. The bedroom curtains also didn't fully close, so unless you found something to wedge them together, anyone outside can also see you showering. The hotel tries to be eco friendly, which is nice but resulted in a blow dryer that couldn't pull power and barely functioned. When I plugged in my hair styling tools into the bathroom outlet, they also could not pull satisfactory power and turned off within a few seconds. I ended up having to style my hair in the bedroom with no mirror because that was the only other accessible outlet.
Very beautiful hotel currently under renovation”
Very good and satisfy for the price i paid.. Will definitively come back whenever i visit Amsterdam
A lovely hotel with a great team of staff!! About a 30 minute walk to the centre which was nice as we could stop and grab coffee on the way! It has a lovely park on on the door step which we went running around and a 15 minute walk from a crossfit gym. The staff were very helpful and they gave us the option to upgrade upon arrival which was a great offer. Everyone was friendly and more than helpful! Room was fantastic and felt very relaxed every time I set foot into the room! Room service and extras we're lovely too! I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting! Made the whole experience wonderful and I'd definitely go back!
Perfect hotel for a city break. Smart, quiet md very clean. Great rooms.”
There really wasn’t any cons if I had to be picky there was a slight drainage smell in the wet room. I could see that this hotel was catering for couples, families old and young, buisiness and students. Hotel was immaculate, staff were great and a nice decor finish making it very welcoming (specially after a long day walking). Just far enough out to be quiet but with a tram stop just opposite a little ride into town was easy. Restaurant I’m guessing is sort after by the locals as it got busy on the weekends and after wasting there we could see why(very good food). Would definitely book again.
The hotel is right near a subway station, 200 meters or so away, The hotel is parallel to the shopping street with a big department store and other designer shops. can walk to the Grand Place in 10-15 min... taken us longer as we kept stopping at shops and strolling overall it was a very clean hotel and the room was massive, super convenient if you want to do some shopping!
Great hotel in a beautiful park. The room was clean and well presented, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The only slight downside was the distance from the centre of Amsterdam, but the metro station was close if you can’t walk the distance
Excellent hotel. This was my second stay and I won’t hesitate to stay there again. Breakfast is very nice as well as gorgeous rooms. Just beautiful, and at a reasonable price.
