The only hotel on Penang Hill still in use is like a look back in time. The feel of the place, especially the porch at the back makes it worth it. And you get to stay on the hill when everyone else has left. The rooms at the hotel are mediocre at best and it could all use a clean up/modernization and renovation. But a definite recommend from me.
Thanks for your positive feedback and for the info, the rooms will some some refurbishment soon. Hope to welcome you all back again in the near future. Cheers Regards Robert Khor Hotel Manager
The scenary is so beautiful especially at night.
Thanks for the perfect 10 score and will work hard to maintain the perfect 10 for your next visit here in the near future. Cheers Regards Robert Khor Hotel Manager
It was a nice hotel. They were in the middle of renovating, but the noise was over around dinner time so wasn't a problem. Our room was new and the beds were comfortable. It was very relaxing. The only problem was getting up there on the train with luggage. On the way up every employee that saw us asked us where we were going. When we told them the hotel, they looked confused. It made us doubt we were in the right place. Nobody offered us any help. Turnstiles were a nightmare. It's a long hike up hill to the hotel from the train. The way down was the opposite. The train staff opened gates for us and helped with the bags.
relax,fresh air,nice view...”
this is my frist time staying in the place like this..althought this hotel a litter bit old but its still keep very clean,comfortable..specially the fresh air,no air-cond but its cool too no matter day or night.the view can see the penang island very beautiful.the staffs are very friendly.we took a lot of photo coz hardly can see the nice view in the place i live.i will go back there again.
Beautiful garden with a view!”
Overall, we had an enjoyable & relaxing stay in Bellevue. A few things to note: - The rooms & bathrooms are a bit old & tired-looking, with some needed repair - the rooms are more like that of a budget/backpackers hotel. - To us, the highlight was definitely the garden which had a beautiful view of Georgetown especially at night, when all the lights come out! The kids also had a great time running around in the garden. - There is a small bird aviary at the hotel which is free for guests. - If you wish, you can also try out their Segways at RM10 for 10 minutes

Over price "Not value for money””
Based on this SGD 87.46, I can get 4-star hotel in Georgetown. Superb setting No air conditioning, No TV, No bar fridge Poor shower facility Food average Over priced. Inside hotel room a bit smelly. Hotel staff also allow outside people go into garden take picture.
Penang hill is for relax with good view with nature.it 800m from see level.
the hotel building is 300 years old and has a lot of history, so don't expect brand new setting. Front desk staff Mr Ishma was excellent in serving us and responding to our needs and queries. Walking distance to everything & has a nice aviary within the hotel compound. Overall clean and well kept.
Charismatic hotel in a great location”
I stayed for one night, I am fairly certain I was the only guest. I took the funicular up early in the morning & was very pleased when the hotel staff let me check in at about 9.30 am. My room was upstairs with a big window that looked out over the trees & plants. The room was basic & clean with enough furniture & lighting, a fan but no ac. There was no wifi in the room. The bathroom again basic with electric water heater for the shower but no towels or soap. I did manage to get a couple of ageing & thinning towels but was not successful in acquiring any soap. There is a very nice terrace with great views on which you can have meals or just relax, free wifi was available here. The menu is fairly extensive with some local & more international choices. There is a minimal selection of canned beers & no wine as well as soft drinks. Some diners did bring their own wine. The evening meal was pretty good, plenty of it at a reasonable price. The breakfast though I thought was expensive for what you get but the view from the terrace in the morning was very pleasant. The staff were all very friendly & helpful, it is a short walk from the funicular station. I would stay there again when I visit Penang hill again.
Unique, quirky heritage hotel”
The sixth or so refreshing two-night stay in a stunning environment. Minor room issues (a musty mattress) solved immediately and smoothly. This is definitely not a hotel like other hotels, but once you take what it offers it's a wonderful place. The dining/ lounging terrace offers great service from a limited menu with just spectacular views. The hillside walks are through superb tropical forests, past mansion gardens.
Cool, relaxing with nothing much to do”
Good if you just want a relaxing stay with nothing much to do. The very friendly staff adds to the charm. However for the facilities offered, it's not worth the money. While the breakfast lady was very friendly, the breakfast spread with 3 slices of bread each and coffee/tea is too miserable. Another thing that irks me is that the workers in the nearby spice garden and aviary switch on their radio loudly all through the night, so try not to get a room facing the front of the hotel where the spice garden is.
New Renovated with Friendly Staff”
hotel basically still under renovation and the room is quite big but no TV although they offer us the new renovated room. it's a hotel renovated from an old ancient bangalow and the owner had collection of some antic in the hotel. staffs are very friendly. i will recommend for a relax and back to natural staying if you want a rest. might bring kids to have a history and natural experience tour. do spare more time cause they have a lot of activity line up for you if the weather is good. if you are lucky like us, then you will have a chance to have a look on the beautiful bird eye scenery on whole Penang Island view...
Relaxing place with nice garden”
Went up Pg hill on the 2nd day of Hari Raya, big crowd everywhere (including finding car park and awaiting for train). After 2hrs, reach the hill top. Not difficult to find the hotel as it's the only one up there. The room is located upstairs, unfortunately no lift to go up (inconvenient for disabled/old ppl). Room is big with big nice window to view outside scenery. Toilet is clean and spacious with nice hot water, again unfortunately no fan hood to dry the toilet floor. No TV in the room, thus remember to bring books or something to occupy you at nite. Another thing worth mentioning is to remember to try out the Segway (rate is cheap and generous). Breakfast is just boiled egg and bread/butter.
Large standard room ”
Im staying in standard double room which comes with 2 single beds due to insufficient beds. Beds are damp due to weather. Water boiler and cups are full of dust, pour away water and wash cups before use it. The worst is there are no tv in the room, you only can get wifi at outdoor. Prepare your books to avoid boredom. Heater suddenly cold and suddenly hot, very uncomfortable to shower. Overall is a nice hotel.
Very uncomfortable room.”
Very noisy surrounding with loud speaker coming from the near by snake show during the day. And noise from the bird Avery few meter from the hotel at night. Room does not have a proper working table fan even though there was no air conditioner in the room. Pillows were so hard that both my husband & I could not sleep. Cobwebs in the bathroom. The carpet was sticky and musky. Food was over priced and tasted lousy. Never want to stay in this hotel again.
cozy up at the penang hill during sunset with cool view of penang habour and been honoured to stay in room number 'one' of most popular historical person for penang knight ,tributes to the late richard buckminster fuller (nicknamed bucky). until his death in 1983, bucky was the specialist consultant to the komtar project. the room is under new refurbishment,.i'm so lucky to get the same old price charges. night staff were friendly and i'm indebted to all of them for the free bbq dinner (indian couple) upon their farewell party ! thank u so much. fyi: there's no room service after 2100 hours !
Highest Hotel in Penang?”
the surrounding is very comfortable and the hotel is just fine if you do not expect much. the view from the restaurant is breathtaking but the steamboat dinner is a letdown. i advise you can take your lunch/dinner at the penang hill visitor’s centre food court (more variety). also, pay a visit to david brown’s restaurant & tea terraces and enjoys another great view of penang island while having your lunch/dinner there. last, there will be more new attraction on the hill. the new canopy walk (200m) & nature trail (1.6km) will be open next year, feb 2013.
Cool and scenic”
The hotel is abit run down but still provides the nostalgic experience. A no frills hotel that provides simple dinning, breakfast and more importantly the invaluable freshness one gets from the cool air at that high altitude. It was also an experience worthy of the effort in riding the new tram up the steep Penang Hill. Once up there, it was a totally different atmosphere - as if you have entered into a different dimension where time stands still. Good place to relax, recharge and to escape from the rat-race.
Great location with friendly staff”
this hotel is located on top of penang hill , it seems to be the only hotel on the hill . there are sensational views from the restaurant . the staff were incredibly friendly , they couldnt help us enough . the actual hotel is fraying around the edges & it not be unreasonable to consider that some refurbishments would be considered within a short timeframe . there is a small bird aviary & gardens setup which is free to hotel guests & is worthwhile spending 20 minutes or so checking it out . we got the room on a sale rate , this being the case , it was good value
no other choice”
no tv, no ac, no fridge...
Thanks for your valuable feedback and the reason why we don't install a TV, Aircon and dridge here were due to the weather up here in which when have thunder, many of our electrical items will be damage by the thunder but the most important things that we actually want you to enjoy the nature even at night with the fresh air up at the hill. Hope to welcome you back here again in the near future to continue enjoy the real nature environment. Cheers Regards Robert Khor Hotel Manager
