Plaisant surprise”
I reserved a room almost a the last minute and the room is very nice, big (for downtown SFO standards). Old, historical hotel re-done with charm . Would certainly my first option to look at for my trip to the city. Definitely recommend it.

Location is great but can be noisy”
Location is great, not too far from metro/subway. Near eateries like Thai and Japanese restaurants. Though there are many homeless, it is still considered ok-safe. The room is too dim but the bed is awesome. They provide basic toiletries too. Staff are friendly and helpful too.

Unpleasant stay!”
Upon finishing booking, I received an email saying that the elevator is not working. This critical information should have been updated in the system for travelers to know before booking!

Hotel was ok. Internet was unusable. ”
I’m a business traveler so having reliable wifi is the main concern I have. This hotel was really one of the worst. My connection would be be about 10-15mbps for a 5-10 mins, then would either cut out totally, or crawl at 300kbps. I would generate a new MAC address which would typically take 2-3 minutes to reconnection and login. Just to buy another 10-15 mins of mediocre wifi. When I called the front desk asking if they could reset the router/modem, the guy said he didn’t know how or didn’t have access. And showed zero interest in helping me with the problem. The elevator is insanely slow. Like 3-4x slower than a typical elevator. I don’t ask for much. I’m happy to pay thier rate to stay in the TL, which a guy living in a tent literally under their awning who will harass you for one thing or another every time you come and go. I’m used to all that, as an SF native. But cmon at least make the wifi usable. Or at least feign interest in helping fix it. If you need wifi during you stay, more than to occasionally check email, skip hotel bijou. Otherwise, if the wifi had been good, I would recommend it. Breakfast was meh (frittata, oatmeal, yogurt for $12). The staff were mostly very friendly.

Perfect yet not so perfect location”
This was the first time my boyfriend had visited San Francisco and I wanted to book a hotel in the city but convenient since we didn't have a car. This hotel was a short block from the Bart/Muni stations and Cable Car stop. Lots of shops and restaurants around the area, very lively if that's what you like. But I was hesitant since I read a lot of negative reviews about the area. It's true...turn around the corner and there's homeless people, drug addicts, and fighting going on. It didn't bother us but some of the homeless are kind of forward. Just don't be rude or confrontational. Most of the time, we just walked by and didn't make eye contact. We stayed in Rm 403 (corner room in front) which allowed a lot of noise in but we didn't mind. Front desk staff was great except for an older Caucasion women who wasn't very friendly but not mean. Overall, I would totally come back.

My 3 night stay at Hotel Bijou. I would definately come back”
The hotel is affordable and clean. Those are my two main concerns. The rooms are nicely decorated and there is a San Francisco movie theme throughout. The hotel also provides brown bag breakfasts which consist of an orange or apple, a pastry or bar and a bottle of water. Location is close to everything. Yes, there are a lot of homeless people inthe area, but that is common of most of Union Square. Close the windows and you won't hear the street noise any more. Hotel Bijou is a great value for your money in a city where everything is expensive.

Nice Hotel. Great Location. Vile surroundings”
The City of San Francisco seems to have abandoned the Union Square area to squalor, noise, dirt and poverty. Hotel Bijou is great, and I expect most of the local businesses are, but the whole are is full of homeless people. Their miserable plight, uncared for by the City, makes every journey intimidating for men, women and children. The streets here are filthy and uncleaned. Lorries and garbage collection run all night so there is no respite from noise. For shame, San Francisco. Your management of this town is a disgrace.

Brilliant location, very friendly staff”
In the most expensive city i have ever visited, this hotel represents terrific value for its location. We had a nice big room with good facilities, the breakfast was basic but fine, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The decor is a bit tired and there are a few cracks/broken elevator buttons here and there, but this does not detract from the overall experience. Don't expect the Ritz, and given its city centre location don't expect the streets to fall silent when you go to bed. Yes, there are beggars and homeless folk in the downtown area, but this is not restricted to around the Bijou, it is everywhere. We had no problem with them and they do not hassle you even if they do ask you once for change. I would definitely return to Hotel Bijou; five minute walk to the tram stop, the underground, Union Square and Westfield Shopping Mall, and less than a minute to plenty of bars and restaurants. Thank you to the staff for a great start to our California trip!

Good service and excellent location”
Hotel Bijou, very close to the Powell Station and the Union Square, is a good choice for a visitor who is in need of covenient transporation and lots of dining and shopping choices. The staffs are very helpful, and the room is spacious regardinf for the price and this expensivce location. I stayed for 5 nights there, and my room is just facing the street. A few traffic noise was heard especillay noticed in the early morning, but it would not bother me at all.

Fantastic Location Large clean rooms”
We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Bijou. We wanted to be close to downtown Union Square so we could walk anywhere or to a tram line. That is exactly what we go. So close and easy to explore the city. Large clean rooms which had all we needed. Friendly staff just topped it off. Would definately recommend

Great location, helpful staff”
Great location is the long suit trumps. The room I had was small but workable. All the other positives were extras to the location, in my opinion. It's always a pleasure to spend some time in downtown San Francisco. I would be happy to stay there again.

Excellent location”
I stayed at Hotel Bijou while attending a conference at the Moscone Center. It was the perfect location for the conference, while still being affordable and very clean, with a very friendly staff and reception. The rooms are on the smaller side, but they are clean and perfectly fine for a week.

Convenient location”
Bijou is conveniently located in downtown near Bart and cable car stop. There are lots of homeless people in the area. A bit afraid at first but gd that they don't bother us. Rooms are small with limited amenities. The icing machine on the 2/F is smelly.

the most convenient location in downtown!”
- hotel is a walking distant away from the tram station and train station, making this one of the most convenient location to stay in downtown frisco. also within walking proximity: - shopping centres & department stores (e.g. macy's) - amenities (e.g. walgreens) - restaurants - chinatown - visitor centre - indian restaurants - hotel staff are super, super friendly and nice. they would genuinely want to try to accommodate to make your trip less stressful. - though at night, it may offer a different "scene" of the area. watch out for that~! - free wifi from lobby but not in room.

Great value hotel in the heart of SF”
Got a fantastic deal for one night. The hotel is located right behind Parc 55 hotel on the border of Tenderloin. Very convenient location for shopping, sightseeing, dining etc., though homeless population outside the hotel is a bit of let down. but this is not too bad compared to the deep down Tenderloin. Another issue to mind would be noise level due to single glazed windows. Very friendly staff and clean property never the less.

Nice little hotel. Facilities a little lacking”
I stayed at Bijou for one night on my way back to SFO from Berkely. It was well priced and in a good location for Union Square etc. The staff were very helpful ( local restaurant advice/ issues with using my bath plug!) and that was great. My disappointment was that there was no kettle in the room. The hot drink making facilities were in a small room next to reception, which was a big negative, as hot drinks in the room are a basic for me. The room was okay, but a little cramped and the bed was a little cheap. However, the facilities listed were well presented and reliable.
