Home away from home”

The staff, cleanliness, hot showers, location and wifi

hotel buddha land is affordable, new and clean and the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. the water was always piping hot, the beds were comfortable and we always felt safe. nights are quiet as the hotel is away from the bustle of the main streets in thamel however still conveniently central. one of our group was ill with severe delhi belly (we were in india prior) and the staff were attentive and compassionate 24/7 doing everything in their power to make her comfortable. the hotel owner also has a travel company "amazing nepal adventure" and they did a fabulous job of organizing a short trek to poon hill, it was reasonably priced and they supplied everything from a top notch guide and porter to warm jackets and trekking poles. there is very little negative to say about the hotel besides the limited breakfast options and the frequent power outages. overall we genuinely enjoyed our stay, it felt more like a home than a hotel and we will definitely be returning to hotel buddha land next time we are in kathmandu.

Clean, has its own power & very helpful staff.”

Location, Value for Money, Great Staff

I found Buddha Land really great and will stay here again, was down with food poisoning on my last night and Mr.Suman got to my aid in the middle of the night. They have their own power generator as Kathmandu has scheduled power cuts, so be prepared. Hot water and heater works great. They give you the best info possible, just make sure you be specific on your request. As they want to ensure you are comfortable. If you are a budget a traveler like myself, also ask what's a cheap option :) Again for about USD11 a night its a steal of bargain and will highly recommended this hotel stay anytime. Ask for Mr.Suman, he's the dude that will get everything sorted out for you.

nicely located hotel with helpful staff”

location and price

The hotel is perfectly located for me since it's situated on the margin of the booming Thamel area, which could be very noisy with all the human and traffic flow and cars honking at all hours. Yet Hotel Buddha is within only two minute walk from Thamel without all the hassle. The staff spoke good English and was extremely friendly and helpful in arranging everything from taxis to day trips and flights. Breakfast was simple but nice. Room was clean and simply furnished, cable TV worked well with many channels, incl. international. The internet worked wonderfully well, even when power was out. The only complaint was warm water didn't seem to be available all the time, and the frequent power outage, but that's not the hotel's responsibility, it's a state policy. Highly recommended, at unbeatable price too.

Great place in a great location”

Location, clean, kind people

This was a really wonderful place to stay and cheaper than other places in the same area. They had the most friendly staff, allowing us to leave our bag there for quite a while and giving us late check-out at no extra cost which was really handy. The breakfast there was really really nice. The room was really clean, and the shower was great, would highly recommend this place. If you stay here you MUST go to Frend's kitchen to have the chicken wings. We ate here many times because it was so cheap and really really delicious. Would highly recommend it. If you turn right out of Hotel Buddha Land, then its just to the right at the end of that road.

very friendly and helpful staff”

excellent location near Thamel.

We enjoyed our stay at Buddha Land. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The location is great, just a few steps away from Thamel the main district for souvenir shopping and restaurants. The rooms are adequate and we always had hot water to take a shower. The restaurant is small but has a friendly atmosphere. During the load shedding in the evening, there is a generator and we always had some lights during that time. The big screen TV in the reception is great to watch football with others and we could use the internet any time for no additional cost...I would stay at Buddha Land again..

Location (quiet but central), Staff

my partner and i stayed here for 4 nights in late march 2012 and found the location, staff and price to by quite exceptional! tucked away just off the main drag, this hotel is nicely located in thamel - close to everything! the staff are the real winner here, helping us with booking flights, organising bus tickets and even sending a parcel home. we will be back in kathmandu in about a week and have already booked to stay here again! thanks!

Comfortable and enjoyable short stay”

Good service, attentive and friendly staff, shuttle service to and from hotel

Very friendly and helpful staff. One staff even went out to buy an adapter for us when we asked if they had one. Overall pleasant and comfortable short stay in Kathmandu. The shuttle service to the hotel was useful especially for first-timers in Nepal. We arrived in the evening and it was dark and traffic was chaotic. Prepare some small change for tips as the driver might ask for some. We booked a package for 4 days poon hill trek in pokhara which offered porter and guide. The guide was friendly and easy to talk to- we learnt alot about nepalese culture through our short trek. The hotel also offers transport for one day tour around the city which we booked as well and it saved us alot of trouble and hassle from bargaining with taxi drivers. The price was reasonable as well. Free breakfast daily which we enjoyed very much.

Cold showers, friendly but confused staff”

Quiet, Good Breakfast, Friendly Staff

The staff at Hotel Buddha Land very much want to help you in any way they can, and I think that makes the place nice. However, there are times when they are totally lost. They seem to be clueless about the load-shedding (rolling blackout) schedule that everyone else in the city understands. Also, the website promised 24 hour hot showers, but I was unable to make the hot water work 3 nights in a row. When I would call the front desk to complain, I got an answer "Just wait longer, it's a big tank and needs to heat up after the power outage". After already waiting 3 hours and still getting ice cold water, I doubt an extra half hour would make a difference. There was clearly something else wrong because when I became angry, the staff managed to make the water VERY hot within a matter of minutes. Not a pleasant experience when about to embark on a 12-day trek into the Himalayas at 5AM the next morning. The breakfast is good. The hotel owner also runs a travel agency and he will try to get you to book through him for trekking or sight seeing. We learned the hard way to go through more reputable agencies even if they are more expensive. When my wife had a semi-serious fall, it turned out our "guide" didn't have a first aid kit or any first aid knowledge. We had to beg passers-by for sterilizing solution and rely on my first-aid knowledge from high school to clean her injuries and immobilize her arm. We don't pay a guide just to tell us the way. If I wanted that I would buy a map.

Value, Location & constant power

I found the staff esp Mr.Suman very helpful and attentive to my needs, booking via agoda at USD 11 per night with constant power, hot water, heater and good internet connection is a great deal in my books. Will surely stay here again when I am back in Kathmandu :)

Great place to stay!”

Great staff, clean, & value for money

Hotel staff are extremely welcoming and friendly! Free tea&coffee whenever you want. We had initially booked for a few days, but ended up staying longer. Hotel staff go out of their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. We had the free airport pickup hotel provided. On arrival to hotel, we had a welcoming drink, bags delivered to our room & got given a map& explained the surrounding area. The cleaners do a great job! We also booked our trekking trip & sightseeing tour through the hotel. Overall, the hotel is clean, value for money, safe, &staff are excellent. Thank you to Suman, Suraj, Nik, Chandra, raj & the driver for being so welcoming & providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Good Value Hotel”

Central location in Thamel but 50 metres down narrow road. Very helpfull staff providing all day tea/coffee and made loan of their own laptop.

Hotel is a little dated but has all that is required. Staff are extremely helpful and could not do more for customers. Provide simple cooked breakfast as well as all day tea and coffee and even lent me their laptop to send e-mails. Room is adequate with old but working TV, VERY hot water with solar as well as electrical backup for power cuts etc. Hotel is down a narrow road but within 150 metres of Central Thamel. Is unfortunately adjacent to a number of building sites that are noisy during the day but no problem at night

Excellent staff, very friendly

after booking the hotel picked us up from the airport, free of charge. this was very helpfull, especially since we arrived at 11.00 pm at kathmandu. the manager of the place also runs a travel agent so you can book all kind of tours and trips with him. rooms are not the best, but for nepali standards not the worst either. location is just on the border of thamel, all major sights are withing walking distance.

Cosy budget hotel with attentive service”

Clean, new, cheerful interior, attention to detail, cares about clients, affordable comfort

Away from the main drag, but more than makes up for this with the following: Free airport transfer, free breakfast, decent hot shower (despite electricity rationing), good room humidity (you'll find a lot of places in Kathmandu are quite damp - hard to dry washing) free wi-fi, general good command of english by staff, accomodating, friendly and helpful staff members. For what you pay, it is excellent value - obviously runned by someone who cares.

we liked it here the owner is a travel agent so he booked us a trek, which was good. the hotel is nice the rooms are spacious and the bathroom pretty clean. right in thamel, close to all the shops and touristy things, as well its easy to get to most places with taxis just down the road. you do over look a open space that seems to be a hang out for teenage glue sniffers though, and to get there you have to walk down a dirt street past a seedy club, but we have had no problems and we have returned to stay here 3 times. the staff and really friendly and helpful.

quiet

Room was acceptable but water was running slowly which maybe the result of high floor(4th floor). Staff was very helpful. They provided free airport pick up, money exchange with very good rate. Location is far enough from busy thamel to allow you sleep well without annoyance. Don't forget to bring flashlight if you back hotel late. It's not easy to reach.

Location, quietness, hospitality

stayed at buddha land for 2 nights and can't find much to complain about. the staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were of a reasonable standard. the pics in the website probably paint a little too glam picture of the place, yet i was quite happy there and i am sure sure so will be you if you are not expecting a 5-star hotel. the location is definitely good, just a stone throw of the busy shopping streets.

dishonest/overcharged for transportation.”

wifi, close to shopping area ..thats all!

it was my first time in Nepal.i booked this hotel as all my friend would be there as well. The hotel have pick up service from the airport,i sent email for all my flight detail and i expected they would pick me up. Imagined, It my first time in Nepal,i walked out from the airport with my suitcase to the meeting point look for the hotel pick up van/car and have many many taxi drivers keep asking me where am going?which hotel i booked? blah blah.(which it so annoying to answer the same question again and again) i walking around at the airport wait for them. i wanted to call them but i have no local simcard (its not easy to buy local sim card) i got so tired after walked around and look for them for over 1 hour.and other guy walk to me and ask the same question again..where am i gonna stay? i told him i gonna stay at Buddha land, the driver says "he know the owner there, and he would drive me to the hotel and charge it with the owner but i asked him first to called to the hotel if they would really pick me up or not? and the answer is They forgot to pick me up. that's kinda dissapointed . we stayed there for a few nights, the breakfast is basic. we saw a rat at the lobby and the staffs just say "are you scare of the rat?" it's their friend..ewww we also paid for the transportation(van) from the hotel to Bandipur. the owner say he gave us the fair price, and he says it a van with air condition. we thought its really fair price but nah he really overcharge us and the air condition is doesn't work at all. i would suggested everyone you better look around and check the price first and exhcnage rating outside the hotel is always better.
