    “not so bad”

was wary because we read so many bad reviews of the hotel online, especially on cleanliness. so we came prepared, with low expectation. and honestly it wasn't so bad. at least wasn't as bad as some of the reviews we read. the room was clean enough. reception staff weren't as welcoming as we expect hotel receptions would be, but they weren't rude or anything. cleaning staff was nice. the minus were: room was too cramp to accommodate four people and all the luggage. it was manageable but still too cramp. bunk beds were creaky and made noises going up and down and also if we moved on the bed. room was obviously for four people but there were only two cups and two bottle of water on the room. also the hotel only gave us one set of key, even though there were four of us. charging outlet was very limited, only one set on the table near the door, and one on top near TV. aircon was not cool enough we needed to also use the fan. lastly, the most annoying thing is the bathroom door bottom hinge made a very loud creaking/banging noise every single time we closed and opened the door, this didn't only bother the rest of the room but especially startling for the one using the bathroom. we moved to another room on the third day, and the bathroom hinge made the same noise although not as loud. the hotel has two entrances, but kept the other door inaccessible which was annoying because the closed door was the one beside a 7/11. overall wasn't a bad stay because we only used the room to rest at night anyway and was located in the center close to an MRT station so it's easy to make a short stop during the day.

    “No Elevators”

Hotel Calmo (aka Hotel 1887) - I read the reviews before I booked the hotel. I already knew about the broken escalators but I thought it would've been fixed by the time of our stay but it's not. This hotel is not recommended for PWD and for guests with heavy/many luggages because you will need to carry it thru the flight of stairs depending on where your room will be. As a tourist, I am already tired from walking all day to see the beauty of Singapore and it doesn't help that the hotel does not have elevator and any working escalators for you to help ease your exhausted feet. -You have to tidy your own trash. -There is no bright lights in the room. Only dim lights. -Heated shower is working, bath towels were provided. -There is TV, electric kettle, hair dryers, free wifi. -Room have enough space for you and your luggage. -They are understaffed. Don't expect to see someone you can ask for assistance especially at night time. Bell boy shift is 9AM. -Greatest advantage: it is very near Chinatown MRT and other establishments. If you are travelling light and solo and just need standard accomodation, go for this hotel. If you are in a group, save yourself from the agony and look elsewhere.

    “Can be improved”

Overall room is cozy, clean and neat. The only downside is the pull-down blind for the sliding windows facing the corridor. The blind is not wide enough to cover the entire window. From the corridor, I can see the study cabinet with my laptop and belongings on the table from the side gap even when the blind is fully down. I spent a full 1 min to look for the main power switch and keycard slot for power supply. In the end, I realized they were being covered by the long blind. I dun feel a sense of privacy due to the fact that the blind gap is so wide that I can see the toilet from the corridor outside. The partition wall is too thin. I can still hear my music from the laptop when I was standing along the corridor. Room: 319

“Budget friendly & Good place to sleep over”

We love the location - Chinatown. Its sorrounded colorful bldgs, mini shops and good restaurants. The place is so alive. Near to train station (blue/purple line) The room we have was ok. Though we expect triple deluxe with a 1 bunk and 1 solo bed, but we had a 2 loft bed instead. The bed presentation is good. They Individual rolled towels. However the towels could smell nicer or cleaner. But thy dont have slippers. They have tea but we are looking for the coffee. The shower is good, but the floor corners could be cleaner. The staff are updated with our booking. Check in time is 3pm, out is 11am. If youre a back packers and just wanted to have a place to sleep at night and out for the whole day...this hotel isn't bad.

    “Above average”

This hotel has its pros and cons. It's not what I just expected. PROS The location is perfect. Maxwell Hawker Center is a short walk away. All the souvenir shops are just there right beside the hotel. There are also a lot of cafes and restaurants nearby. MRT is also close. The staff are really nice. I lost my debit card and the receptionist on duty during that time found it and gave it to me. She's really very nice. The room I'd say is good space. We were comfortable with the space. The toilet was also spacious and the water heater works well and the water was strong. CONS I stayed here with my brother and mother during peak season so all hotels in Singapore are crazy expensive so we opted for this one. There is NO ELEVATOR. If you are like us traveling with senior citizen and with many luggage, you might have a hard time. They have escalator tho. It's not clean. The lobby, the hallways, the room itself, it's not that clean. I think the building is old and not well-maintained. Our sheets were not even clean and the pillows are a bit smelly. It's a shame. I hope they improve the cleanliness at least. The toilet in the lobby area was just rubbish, I couldn't use it. I think if you're on a budget and you think you'll always be around sight-seeing and you will use this hotel just a place to sleep then this is okay. BUT if you like to relax, then maybe this is not the one.
