Most importantly we were NOT in a group.
This hotel deals mainly for package travellers. Managers were unfriendly and bored but the waiters were attentive. A nice pool ruined by not enough chairs and no one to hand out towels or a pool service for drinks. It is overpriced for what they offer. It is run down and shabby and at £100 per night, at the end of the season is not good enough. Jaisalmer and Bicaner offered 100% more for 50% less cost.

Beautiful Castle - But how about updating it?
    Location, Look
At first I thought it would be cool to stay in a castle. It was nice, Looked cool and it was antique. However the room did not have many electric outlets. there is no wifi in the room and the wifi in the lobby was so slow that my 3G was 10x faster. The air conditioner was horrible and hot water.... what hot water? I let the hot water run for 15 minutes and it was still freezing. The dinner buffet was ok, selection was poor but the sad part is that there was a LOT of touring groups there and it was so crowded and the food didn't last long and there was long lines to get food. The dining room is small and narrow and can not fit all those people. The staff was nice and courteous, however the hotel is old and needs to be updated. We went to the spa. The services were not available because "the girl who does that is not working today". Then we picked another and had to wait 2 hours for them to set it up. I guess they were surprised that we wanted it. They were not busy and I guess dont get a lot of customers. The pool is filled with mosquitos, so forget about swimming. The guards are there more for photo taking and tips. As soon as you get outside all of the store merchants jump on you to get you to "visit" their shop. Its borderline harassment. Its a cute small town with lot of nice Haveli's to see. I would stop in for a day tour and go in and out of Mandawa instead of staying overnight.

Heritage hotel right in the middle of Mandawa
It is the best place to stay because it is located in the heart of Madawa, the staff are non-intrusive but efficient and the food (buffet) has variety and is tasty.
Overall the experience was good. Prices on the wine list is pretty high but on par with what a good restaurant will charge you in Delhi. Most of the tourists who come to Madawa are French so if you convert prices in Euros it isn't too steep. However, rooms are well-appointed and clean, the castle grounds are well-maintained. There are other options to stay at in Mandawa village, including a few just outside the village. But if you can stay at Castle Mandawa it is worth it as it is in the heart of the village. Local guides who will take you on a tour of the havelis of Mandawa are available. Best way to go about it is to ask the hotel staff at the reception to get you a guide. Food (buffet) is tasty and has a good spread of continental and Indian. One can also walk around the local market and havelis in the village, which is just a stone's throw away from the Castle, which is actually a fort. Ask the staff at the reception for a guided tour of Castle Mandawa, which also contains heritage paintings.

    Lovely pool
One of the staff in the dining room was fabulous, the pool courtyard is beautiful and the layout of the hotel with its murals is typical of the area.
We had a wonderful meal with a friendly waiter. The rest of the staff were efficient but not warm. It is quite a walk from the room to the dining room, which is pleasant with painted walls. It is definitely more a castle than a palace. Reasonable value for money but no bargain.

    Beautiful hotel in stunning grounds
    Maharajah grandeur
We had just one night here. We arrived early to make use of the hotel facilities (tennis, table tennis, boat ride on lake etc) and to have a good look around the hotel. We were delighted with our room - suite with lake view. The staff were all helpful and friendly. My only suggestion for improvement would be the food menu. The breakfast and dinner buffet were generally quite bland, catering mainly for the tour groups who descend here each evening.

Espectacular hotel, buena piscina y restaurante
