Hotel Claiton Shin-Osaka GETTING THERE: The hotel is easily accessible with the train in 2 ways... 1) Midosuji Line (red line) - only 2 blocks away from the Nishinakajima-Minamigata station, which is about a 3-minute walk. 2) Hankyu Limited Express (grey line) - only 2 blocks away from the Minamikata station. Note that Nishinakajima-Minamigata and Minamikata are just next to each other. STAFF: The staff are super nice. If you need to call them to inquire or confirm, just make sure that you call starting at 9am since some of their night shift front desk staff don't know English well. That's what they advised me when I called at about 7am. There is also a nice lady in their restaurant, Ms. Kino, who is very cheerful and helpful. She helped me figure out how to get to the Tenjin Matsuri Festival. ROOM: The rooms are clean. Maybe a little tacky in style but that wasn't important for me. The bathroom is installed in the room. Most hotels in Japan with a private bath is as such. It may be cramped for bigger people but everything you'll need is there. A bathtub, shower, hot water and Shiseido shampoo, conditioner, body wash and facial soap are available. Other toiletries like a razor, ear buds, tooth paste and tooth brush are also provided. Bathrobes, slippers, big towels and hand towels are also provided. The TV only shows Japanese channels but there are pay-per-view selections provided in catalogs. There's also a small fridge that works but doesn't contain any drinks for purchase. The train parallel to the hotel (Hankyu Limited Express) can be slightly heard when it's passing by but that's only until 12 midnight. You can request for a room away from the side of the tracks too. FOOD: We got room and breakfast deal. The breakfast is buffet and there are western and Japanese selections. Hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, miso soup, corn soup, breads, rice, zaru soba, fresh lettuce, macaroni salad, steamed okra, corn, cereals, milk, espresso, iced tea, etc... Over

Good hotel and surely visit again”
Just the 2nd time in Osaka but 1st time in Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka. Seen many comments on the review parts that made me to decide to stay this hotel. Seemed to be everything was well completed since from the booking as we are quite big group as 16 members and so many requests. Same floor requested, late timing Breakfast Time for the 1st day arrival, Room Services are done within a minute, Nishinakajima Minamigata Station is just only a short distance 5 minutes to the hotel - all are quite impressed indeed for our group. I bet Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka is only the chosen hotel when Osaka and Kansai visit.

Got the job done”
I stayed here for four nights in a double room with my father. Previous comments have all stated that the rooms were small, but I didn't find that to be a problem at all. Honestly, it's a Japanese hotel room. I would agree that the hotel was a bit difficult to find at first, but the train station attendant at the Shin-Osaka train station had a map and the hotel was easily marked on her map. The hotel itself is indeed closer to the Minamigata subway station, but the Minamigata station also has a local JR line that goes up to Kyoto (takes about an hour, and it's only 320 yen vs. 540 yen from Shin-Osaka on the rapid JR trains). It is about a 15-20 min walk from the Shin-Osaka station. The street you walk on has plenty of local eateries and convenience stores and since you are in Japan, it's really not dangerous whatsoever. Others that stayed at the hotel hated the pillow, but we found that if you flipped the pillow on the other non-beaded side, they were perfectly fine and acceptable. I slept comfortably every night because we spent so much time sightseeing and walking around both Osaka and Kyoto. It was definitely a good convenient "home base" for us and our sightseeing. I have now stayed at 3 Japanese hotels and this was just as nice if not nicer than all the others. The ONLY negative I can think of about this hotel is the train tracks. If you can, try to get a room on the side without the train unless you can tolerate it. The train woke us up every morning because you can hear at least 1 or 2 track crossings from the hotel room.

Clean, Inexpensive and Convenient Hotel”
We spent 9 nights at the hotel. Room is standard size in Japan and it is clean. Staffs are friendly and helpful. The biggest advantage is how close it is to different train stations. Subway is 3 minute walk and another ground train station is also next to the subway station. It takes 200yen and 2 min to go from subway to the JR Shin-Osaka station but you can just walk there easily within 15min. To go to Kyoto, there's no need to take expensive bullet train. From JR Shin-Osaka, the S. Rapid train (there are 3 kinds: normal, rapid and S. rapid) takes only 25 min to go to Kyoto and it is only 540 yen. Besides Osaka, we went to Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, Arima hot spring and other places easily. The longest trip was to Arima hot spring and it was 70 min. This hotel serves well as the central hub to visit other places in Kansai. Within Osaka, it is 10 min to Osaka Station/Umeda area and 20 min to Namba. These are 2 of the major shopping and dinning areas. around the hotel, there are various convenient stores(Family Mart, Lawson..etc) and a grocery store (Gourmet City). Wired internet is free in the room and the wire is provided. Refrigerator is also in the room and we could store drinks and ice-cream we bought. Train noise is minimum (none between 12am-5am) and we have no problem sleeping through the night. If we visit Kansai again, we will certainly go back to this hotel.

Quiet location and good value for money.”
We stayed in Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka for 7 days, and had a good experience. It's really close to the Nishinakajima Minamigata station, and has 2 convenient stores nearby. It was very quiet in night even though it located right next to the railway, we can barely hear any noises. The cleanliness was around average. The main problem is that they didn't change the quilt cover everyday, instead of that, they simply changed the bed sheet and the flat sheet between quilt and bed. Another thing is the staff forgot to refill supplies in our bathroom one day. Apart from the above mentioned, we had a good experience in this hotel. And the price of the hotel is definitely worth our stay. Will absolutely recommend to our friends.

A Fine Hotel”
Our stay at Hotel Claiton was both comfortable, and enjoyable. The room was very clean, quiet and attractively decorated. The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. We found the location fantastic...as we were only 10 minutes from central Osaka by train. We were also in the vicinity of Shin Osaka station, for country train trips. The were local shops and supermarkets around the corner, and also on the otherside of the train station.. which were very convenient. We would stay there again.

If you want good and not expensive hotel”
I spent 6 nice days with my family in Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka and if I will ever come back to Osaka, I will first check the possibility to reserve the sam e hotel. Good location if you want not just stay in Osaka, but visit Kyoto and Kobe, too. Complimentary public bath with sauna and internet access, very good breakfast. Nice place to stay! The room was small, and semi double bad is 120cm wide - but this is normal for Japan.

Great location with good service”
The rooms at this hotel are quite small, but apart from this, Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka has a lot to recommend it. The staff don't speak a lot of English, but are very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is delicious and very substantial. The onsen was large and very clean. And it's only 10 minutes from ShinOsaka station! We would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel with even better location”
We found the hotel easily. Thanks to some of the reviewers' description of direction. They did not have a non-smoking room available and I needed one due to my asthma. I had the opportunity to look at 4 different rooms to pick one which they really made non-smoking. All 4 rooms were in very good condition. So, I have no idea which hotel some of the reviewers went when they wrote about falling apart rooms. We kept the window open a bit all night. The trains stop running at mid night and until 5 AM it was quiet. Osaka is a big city and the usual city hum was present. We live in SF and it was perfectly acceptable quietness for sleeping for us. Great neighborhood with lots of convenient stores and small restaurants. Very easy walk to Shin-Osaka station. We will go back again next year. We do come to Japan every year.

Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka”
Good price and clean. Close to the main Midosuji (Subway) Line that runs centrally north/south thru Osaka. If you're going to spend a lot of time in Osaka this would be very helpful. However, it is not close to a JR train station, so if you're going to spend a lot of time touring the Kansai area sights around Kyoto, Nara, Himeji, etc. and will be using a JR pass (which doesn't cover subway fares) you must pay 200 yen and travel north one station to the Shin-Osaka station or south two stations to the Osaka (Umeda) station every time you depart or arrive back to your hotel room. And of course the room is small... it's Japan, get over it... all of the rooms here are small unless you're willing to pay BIG bucks!

Cheap price not for Cheap Service”
The hotel is located in the business districk of Shin Osaka. It is close to subway by 5 minutes. It is also close to JR Shin Osaka Station, one stop from Nishinikajima subway station. You could also walk to Shin Osaka by 15-18 mins. The room is typically small (i think that was normal in japan) but has complete services. It has a free LAN internet, freezer, television ( all in japanese lang) and small closet. The bathroom is normal size. I was impressed that they even supplied toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, comb, ear buds in addition to regular soap and shampoo. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Osaka.

Claiton Shin Osaka”
The Claiton Shin Osaka is an affordable and well located hotel. It is just a few blocks from the train station and the Family Mart. It is clean and the staff are helpful and always there. Breakfast includes a variety of western and Japanese food. The hotel has a shared bath, but also your room has its own bathroom.

Small room but well equipped with the necessity”
Hotel Claiton Shin Osaka is a great hotel to stay. Within 10 min of walking to train/subway stations, 24 hr supermarket and lot of restaurants around. Room is very clean and well maintain. We arrived past mid night checked in by 2 front desk gentlemen wasn't impressive. The other staff are helpful and understand English. As the hotel is near to the train/subway station, it is noisy, especially if you are a silent sleeper, you have to reconsider staying here. Overall we are happy after staying for 10 nights here, we recommend this hotel for its reasonably priced and convenience. Breakfast considered cheap at 800 Yen.

Osaka Experience”
It is good hotel for this rent. Very close to one of the subway stations. The name miss guided me, whether it is close to Shin Osaka or Omeda/Osaka station. I arrived at Osaka station then took a taxi and it costed me 1300yen. The hotel can more details about the accessbility of the hotel. The rooms are good and maintained well. The food in the restaurant is good andits location in the lobby is advantageous to the customers. Open bath facility is good. Staff in the reception are good. Even though there is no proper internet connection, it is available free of cost in the lobby. Even a printer is available. I had a wonderful stay in this hotel. I will recommend this hotel to my friends and will stay here if I VISIT AGAIN osaka.

Great location with very helpful staff”
based on other comments i knew i would have a nice stay at the hotel clainton shin osaka, but it was even better than i thought it would be. the location was wonderful. just minutes from subway station and a short and cheap subway ride to namba. there were many places to eat and enjoy the night near the hotel as well. they staff was really heplful and eager to help us with our traveling questions. even though we were still asleep when the house keeping came, we found a basket of fresh towels waiting for us out side our door. i have stayed in many hotels and have never seen that done before. it was very sweet. as others had said the hotel room was small...but then again it is japan so it was expected. overall i was very pleased.

good value”
My friend and I stayed shared a twin room, my 13 year old daughter shared the bed with me at no extra charge, we were just charged for two people, which was a "selling point" for me. I booked via Agoda, but they advised to call first to check whether we could have 3 people stay for the price of two in a twin room, the first hotel said no, but this hotel agreed, but told me there would be no extra "amenities" meaning towels or robes. The room was small, but big enough with a little rearranging, pants press and heater into the hall, carry on suitcases into the wardrobe. It was a 5 minute walk to the subway station and one subway stop to shin-osaka, the train station. We stayed here for 4 nights and spent the first evening in Osaka, but then went to Kyoto every day, a 13 minute ride on the bullet train with our JR railpasses. The only thing with doing this to be aware of is that you spend for an extra subway fare each day to the train station: 400 yen round trip for each person, but the 4th night was free, so it was worth the discount to stay here. There is a supermarket and lots of inexpensive eating places on the other side of the train tracks outside the subway station, so even though the hotel location is a bit bleak it is minutes away from a fun little area. It also has a bath (onsen) and good laundry facilities.

Great location and C/P, a very pleasant hotel”
Location is great for going to main trains stations such as Shin-Osaka and Umeda, and also only a few stops from Shinsaibashi, Nanba, and Nipponbashi stations. The hotel is located at a quiet place, although there is a railway nearby but it did not affect sleep. Staff is nice and speaks English and provides a file with useful information upon arrival. The hotel provides free WiFi and the internet connection was good. Vending machine, ice dispenser, microwave, and washing machines are available on the 2nd floor. The onsen spring is only available for men, though. Overall, the hotel has great traveling advantage, quiet rooms and is quite convenient because there are two convenient stores nearby, a cosmetic/medicine shop, a supermarket, and many restaurants that open late.

Decent hotel, outside downtown Osaka, public bath”
The Hotel Claiton was a nice hotel for its class, which I would say is for budget travelers who still require a clean place to stay and basic amenities. The rooms are small, with barely enough room for our luggage, but still no smaller than other hotels in this range. There is a breakfast which looks very nice, but we passed because it was slightly on the expensive side at 800 Yen for hotel guests (about $9.50 at time of writing) or 1000 yen for visitors. The Claiton is located just outside downtown Osaka, which is nice if you want a less congested, mostly residential area to stay in, but which is still only a couple of metro stops away from downtown (Umeda/Osaka eki). It's about the equivalent of three blocks or so to walk to, which is nice because we didn't need a taxi from the metro stop. There is a small district of locally-owned restaurants and bars within easy walking distance, just on the other side of the station, and we found some super tasty food there. Since I had jet-lag, it was nice to have several convenience stores around to get midnight snacks at. The Family Mart was closest, about a block away. If the price was right, I would definitely stay here again or recommend it to friends.
