Clean, basic pensione hotel on Fane's beach front”
This was our first visit to Fano, a smaller east coast beach resort town. For an-early September, mid-week visit it was nice to be someplace not overran by tourists on the beach and still find ready convenience to the markets, shops and history dating to Caesar. The hotel is older, but still well kept and overall pleasant to stay at. The too early 10:30 AM checkout time really cuts into wondering around in the mornings, but you can always shove your luggage into a lobby corner and toddle off until it's time to walk 5 minutes to your incoming train. The rooms themselves are basic; bed, closet, small TV, cool AC, shower bath with uncarpeted floors. Our room was oceanside with a small balcony overlooking the beach and some easy views to the south. We stayed on a half-pension plan, which means, room and breakfast. The breakfast was pretty decent by having fresh fruit, biological items and plenty of sweet and salty things to eat. They also had 4 or 5 jam selections to slather onto my bread. One of the larger options I've seen yet. When asking for directions to find muscles and clams for dinner, the receptionists easily understood us in English, provided us a business card and described the 8 minute walk down the street to eat. Earlier, when asking for gelato, she guided us to two great options only 5 minutes walk away. You can request city bikes for free and they were in good condition.
