Great value place to stay in San Francisco ”
We chose Hotel Epik based on price & how close it was to City Hall. The staff there were excellent & we found them to be very friendly & helpful. The room was small but that was as expected from the reviews we had read beforehand so was not a problem. As we read in other reviews there are a number of homeless in the area, again this did not cause us any problems. Area wise this is a bit further from the main tourist areas, we were only visiting for a limited time so did use Ubers in order to maximise our time in the city. The coffee, water & snacks in room were a great addition. This was a great place to stay in San Francisco & represented great value for money. Our room was on the second floor at the front of the building so did experience a reasonable amount of noise at night from traffic / sirens etc but this wouldn’t put us off staying here again.
Hotel Epik is epic :-)”
Contemporary quaint boutique hotel experience embracing the age of the building with a modern overlay of a European flair. This property is well maintained and well managed and while it's located on the cusp of the Tenderloin district and Civic Center area, it's conveniently situated and getting around is very easy. The staff is supremely nice and co-operative which makes the stay even more comfortable. When I return to San Francisco or when I recommend places to stay to my friends, Hotel Epik will be top of the list :-)
Modern, very clean hotel, super friendly & helpful personnel, excellent value for the money”
Granted: the area - at the edge of the Tenderloin - may not the best, but given the (for European standards) simply insane prices for hotel rooms elsewhere in San Francisco, this was excellent value for money. In contrast to many other - much more expensive - hotels I've seen in the city, which claim to be newly built or renovated but already have a somewhat shabby look and feel, the room and the entire hotel were impeccably clean and modern. Also, instead of the usual 'minibar-rip-off', there were gratuitous water and snacks in the room. And last but definitely not least, while I cannot say that the personnel at other SF hotels was unfriendly, the staff here was exceptionally nice and helpful (thank you for that!). I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.
Amazing Stay”
My husband and I stayed here for one night of our honeymoon. The staff was incredibly kind and friendly, the room was very clean, modern, and luxurious, and the overall aesthetic of the hotel was bright, trendy, and energetic. I can't emphasize enough how kind and friendly the staff are!! However, parking is practically impossible. Hotel Epik does offer a valet service which comes in at about $50/stay, an absolute necessity if you have a car with you. They allow you unlimited access to your car between 6 am and 11 pm for the duration of your stay, so it's definitely worth the cost. The room is stocked with free water, snacks, and espresso. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are well-lit. It is a very, very short walk down Polk Street to Brenda's French Soul Food, an amazing hole-in-the-wall restaurant most popular for their fried chicken and beignets. I would highly suggest Hotel Epik for anyone looking for a clean, renovated place to stay in a central SF location.
Room not EPIK!!”
Our room was tiny and didn’t have an outside view. I wasn’t warned about this and was an issue because my husband suffers with claustrophobia. We were happy to pay for an upgrade, but they were booked out. It’s not the hotel’s fault but the amount of homeless people directly outside definitely affected my view of the hotel and San Francisco in a negative way. I would definitely stay closer to Fisherman’s Wharf if I was travelling with a family. Upon check out I was told we were being charged for resort fees and when I questioned it I was only charged for one night. Why a hotel like this charges resort fees is beyond me. Having said all that the staff were very pleasant, the bar was a great escape when we were too scared to go out for a drink and the room was very modern and clean.
Good Place with Helpful Staffs”
The hotel is in Polk street around 15 mins walk from Union Square. Nice hotel with cute bedroom and very helpful staffs. I would recommend it to people who wants be in the somehow centre of San Francisco.
Friendly hotel in a not so friendly neighborhood ”
Hotel Epik was everything we needed whilst staying in San Fran. Quite and well kept room with nice amendments and friendly staff. The only downside is the area it is in has many homeless people around and can be daunting on first sight. We was never caused trouble by them when walking around, but we did take the precaution to book taxis to and from the hotel.
Canadians from Vancouver, BC”
Hospitality and guest services at Hotel Epik are amazing and top-knotch! We were very easily accommodated to our request for a quieter hotel room, and the staff/reception are very pleasant and extremely friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel simply because of the amazing hospitality and services, and cleanliness! -Vancouver, BC (Natasha)
Very good”
Nice updated hotel. Got a special rate deal which was great for San Francisco. Room was a little small, but adequate for our 2 night stay. Staff were great and very helpful. Hotel location is bordering on a less desirable area, but it's fine if you keep your movements to and from it in the right directions. Would stay there again for sure.
Really nice hotel in a not so nice part of town”
First time trip to San Fran, Hotel is new, super clean. Rooms are small but have everything you need, in fact the designer is a genus in how he master ed the design. Complimentary bottles of water and Espresso machine in each room were a bonus. Rough part of town so we used uber to get home as the area felt very unsafe but the hotel itself felt very safe. We were ignorant about the homeless and drug abuse issues in the city but enjoyed the stay & would recommend the hotel.
Hotel Epik - I quite enjoyed my stay!”
Upon entry, Hotel Epik was very clean and fun! It had offered board games, an arcade machine and refreshments. Very aesthetically pleasing! The front end clerk was also very helpful and friendly! As for the rooms, they were quite small! The walls also seemed to be paper thin. The location of the hotel was about a 10 minute Uber ride to the piers. That being said, the hotel's neighboorhood was very loud. It didn't feel like the safest at night. Overall, the price was good, so was the customer service and the modern look! The location, the thin walls and the small rooms weren't my favourite.
Fantastic Hotel”
Loved my stay at Epik Hotel, lovely service and room is clean. Furthermore, it's within walkable distance to different attractions.
Hotel Epik a must!”
A five star hotel and staff! Thanks to Erik for is kindness! We will come back for sure at hotel Epik the next time we come to SF!
Tenderloin District”
Hotel EPIK is a cute boutique hotel in a terrible neighbourhood. Right outside its doors is dangerous. It’s too bad this hotel is located somewhere else in the city - it’s a great spot inside!
Nothing Fantastic”
For the price that we paid, room was super tiny with slight seepage from the floor tiling. Definitely not worth it but considering it’s San Fran, not really surprising. Would not be returning if I visit San Fran again. Only pleasant thing from the stay was the friendly front office people.
Above average”
Although the staff was very nice and the hotel clean, the queen bed room was literally a shoe box. The neighborhood was not the best. For vacation, I wish I had known a soup kitchen was a block away. This area of San Francisco seemed to have far more homeless people than other areas. They were also doing construction in the building below us so it was extremely loud.
3 Nights in SF”
Good location; I was able to walk a lot of places or easily catch the bus / BART. The room itself was only a little smaller than other hotel rooms, but it had all of the amenities and then some extras. They're designed very well. Joey, at the front desk was very helpful during my visit. I appreciate everything he did; checking me in early, recommending restaurants, checking my bag before check in and after check out... I was very appreciative. My only suggestion is to pack some earplugs. The thin walls and laminate floors make things a little loud. It may be hard to sleep without them if you're a light sleeper like I am. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!
San Fran Getaway”
Hotel is very clean and well appointed. Staff is friendly. Location is on divide of gentrified and old downtown.
Nice hotel and excellent service but bad location”
Nice hotel and excellent service but bad location location was near the tenderloin district you dont want to walk there late at night lots of drug dealer and homeless. But in the morning and evening i was confortable to walk on the street around (i was using geary Street i think it the best option) But my wife was scare to walk in that neighborhood. room as nespresso machine and hotel is A1 but location is bad
Great hotel... not a great location”
The hotel was fab, modern, clean and great value for money. However, outside the door the number of homeless people, clearly with mental health and drug issues, was a big issue. The hotel is in Tenderloin which is one of the worst areas for this problem (although SF does have an issue with this all over). As a lone female traveller I never felt safe and got taxi's directly from the hotel to my office. I wouldn't have walked up the street alone in daylight let along in the evening. You could even hear people shouting at each other from within my room at the front of the building. Maybe I was being over cautious but I wouldn't stay again for that reason. The staff were really lovely and helpful. However, one silly thing was that when I asked for an iron on one day I was brought one without a board. When I asked what I was supposed to use the response I got was 'I don't know, maybe the desk?'. Maybe invest in some ironing boards??
