Great Place for Travellers-Tourists might find it wanting for amenities”
Fantastic location and neighborhood in the Latin Quarter. Rooms are nice and decent size for the price and the Hotel itself is an ancient treasure. Beds could be a bit better but I have no idea how they got the ones they already have up the winding staircase that leads to the rooms. The Hotel Esmeralda is a great place for people who love adventure and discovery!

Not a Hyatt (thank goodness).”
Small hotel (less than 20 rooms), pleasant helpful staff in a 16th century building (some floors not level, stairs only--no elevator), excellent location for tourists. Plus-sized individuals however might feel cramped--doorways to the rooms are charming but narrow (about half the width or less of standard interior US doors). Window in our room was the huge French kind (way over six feet tall). I appreciated the ABSENCE of harsh toxic cleaning agents that are often used in chain hotels in the US.

Location. Parisian charm”
It's all about location. This is hotel is right across Notre Dame and less than 2 mins walk to the metro servicing RER B and C (access to CDG and ORY airports, Eiffel tower, Versailles). The Seine river walk is less than 5 mins away. It's in a 17th century building shared with the Shakespeare and Company bookstore in the border of the Latin Quarter. The hotel is small and aged but it's clean and has so much character and charm. I fell in love with my room, which happens to be the smallest, one of my wall is entirely a painting. The hotel allows luggage holding if you happen to arrive early before check in or leave after check out hours. Wifi is fast and reliable. Hotel staff are courteous and would discuss art and history with you. Be aware that there is no elevator and the staircase is a little narrow for luggages more than the size of a handcarry. I would stay in the same hotel when given the chance to return to Paris

Acceptable stay”
Very basic facilities but old hotel, location is good however a bit noisy as its facing a street. During our stay the alarm went off around 6am in the morning and it was loud and long, it rang for few times before we unplug the whole thing. Staff said it was due to system fault.

Perfect place”
Hotel Esmerelda is cozy, small, charming beyond measure, and in an impossible to beat location. It feels exactly like a fantasy of a Parisian hotel, I could imagine the rooms being painted in broad brush strokes by van Gogh or with one of Degas's dancers en pointe at the window. The location is ideal both in a romantic storybook sense and for modern functionality. It looks out over a simple little park, adjacent to the oldest church in the city, and then to the Seine, and just over that is Notre Dame. Shakespeare and Company, an English language expat hub, is right around the corner if you need a break from foreign-language-immersion for a bit. It's also right by one of the Left Bank's most central transit hubs, right across the river from the Right Bank's, and the nearby Metro stop services the RER line to and from Charles DeGaule. The doorways and stairs are a bit narrow, and there is no elevator, so that must be taken under advisement. But if those are not concerns to you, this is the most perfect place.

Slightly too quirky for my taste”
Brown furniture, creaky floors, winding stairs, a rope acting as a handrail (not safe for someone my age who needs to hold onto something secure) this hotel was in an excellent position within walking distance of many attractions but is shabby without the chic and reminds me of the sort of place I might have stayed as a cash-strapped student 50 years ago, Bathroom and bedroom on different levels; shower over bath guarantees a bathroom floor wetter than than the seine. Noise and cigarette smoke come into the room from the public space outside, which is infested with rats at night. Nice staff. My online receipt said all pre-paid, in full, including taxes but hotel asked for a further €8.30 in taxes when we checked out. Afraid I can't recommend this hotel.

Hotel eameralda has a special history andxambiance whichvit still retains. the stAff are excellent”
Despite its small size ( built in 17th century) and great age the staff keep it very clean. Bathroom is also very small but very ckean. The narrow stairwAy is worth the climb. It sits above Shakesoeare and co the most fabulous bookshop and opposite the 13th century eglise du st julienne du pauvre with its quiet garden and the notre dame. Many cafes nearby with live music and classical concerts at nearby churches. The perfect spot!
