More about Hotel Espana

More about Hotel Espana

With its modernist architecture and location at the heart of Barcelona's oldest district, Hotel Espana blends heritage with modern-day comfort. The hotel is situated on a quiet street, just a few minutes' walk from Las Ramblas and its attractions, while the nearby metro station provides access to the wider city. Rooms are small but comfortably furnished and feature essentials such as air conditioning, but this property is better known for its lobby and dining rooms. Designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, they are breathtaking examples of modernist architecture. One has sea life murals by Ramon Casas, the other magnificent floral tiling and a wood-beamed roof. Guests can enjoy a leisurely breakfast, light lunch, or evening meal in such an intimate, original ambiance.

Art Nouveau hotel with modern comforts ”

Decor, location, service

Our two day stay at Hotel Espana started our cruise vacation on a high note. The beautiful art nouveau décor was a treat to experience, and the service was efficient and cordial. The rooms offer comfort and convenience, with a wide range of TV channels, although there was a charge for wi-fi access. The breakfast is varied and tasty. The location is convenient -- just off La Rambla by the opera house, on a quiet street. The Fonda restaurant offers excellent cuisine at a reasonable price in a beautiful room. Barcelona at its best.

Great value La Rambla luxury hotel”

Modern design, attentive service, new/clean facilities

We were looking for an affordable yet high-end hotel in the middle of La Rambla. We were very happy with our choice to book Hotel Espana. The design and architecture throughout the hotel is very chic and modern. Loved the oversized rainwater showerhead in the bathroom. It has everything you'd expect in a high-end hotel. Probably the only bad experience we had is that the taxis the hotel called for us to take us to the airport totally screwed us with the price, make sure to work out a flat fee to the airport.

Ideally situated in a side street of Las Ramblas. ”

We had very enjoyable stay. The hotel is situated very close to Las Ramblas. The deluxe room was small. No space for a second suitcase. Shower leaked over the bathroom floor. Toilet roll holder was broken. Wardrobe sliding door poorly fitted. Kept on jamming . Mentioned this to the reception, needless to say nothing was done. The Espana hotel was able to justify the room cost by its position and overall we had a wonderful at La Espana. The attention to detail could have been better

one of the most beautiful hotels i've stayed atT”

For the price you pay, you get a very big (for european standards) room!

it's on a road perpendicular to la ramblas, just a 5 minute walk. so you get to live right in the middle of all the activity in barcelona without paying for the price tag of the hotels fronting la ramblas. the room was beautiful, recently renovated. it has enough space for a two seater couch and the bathroom was very spacious. wifi wasn't free, that was the only downer. but i would definitely come back and stay in this hotel, and hope that they open more branches in other countries!

Excellent”

Fun and hip hotel. Somewhat over-the-top decor, but still modern and interesting. Nothing beats the location. It's immediately off Las Ramblas and still close enough to walk down to the marina. The staff was kind and very helpful. The rooftop bar was a nice space with a friendly bartender. I had my laundry done and they picked up and brought it back promptly at 8 pm, as promised. The only drawback was that my room was located in a section of the hotel where there is a large open space between the floors and you can see the many rooms above and below by looking over the hallway balcony. This large open space allows for sound, such as closing doors, to be amplified and heard within the rooms. I would highly recommend that the hotel install soft-close doors to decrease the noise. Overall, if I come back to Barcelona I'm staying here.

Pleasant Stay at Hotel Espana, Barcelona”

I was very happy with the location of this hotel, right off the main street of La Rambla and being opposite to the Gothic district - the district where we wanted to explore. The hotel is close to shops & restaurant and easy access to the main streets of Barcelona, fantastic! The room is clean and spacious and the little balcony was an added feature to this establishment. Thanks to Erika at the front counter for checking us in to our room so early and not wait till 2pm, a real bonus. Staff were great and very pleasant. I already recommended this hotel to my other friends who are planning to visit Barcelona.

Great hotel a step from La Rambla”

The hotel was ideally located for La Rambla being a short walk to Place Reial, the Market and the marina. We chose this for location and roof top terrace with pool and subbed area. The space upstairs could be used more for sun beds but not everyone is a sun worshipper like our older children, but that also added to us being out most of the time in Barcelona. The pool is a nice little chill out area with great bar staff who are a very attentive at all times. The reception staff were also available with good information, especially at the time we arrived there was a city wide taxi strike, we had to make arrangements to get to the airport by Metro which is a breeze, the Metro being 200 yards from the hotel - 2 stops away. The only bad thing was the breakfast, we were hurried out of the breakfast by the staff beginning to take everything away at 10:40. We had breakfast that morning as it was our daughters 20th birthday and the staff had. I respect to allow us Breakfast.

Great location, good service and interesting architecture

Had a wonderful stay at Hotel Espana. The staffs were really friendly and helpful. Loved the interesting architecture of the hotel and will readily recommend this hotel to anyone. Location wise, it is just a stone throw from Las Ramblas and La Boqueria market. It was easy exploring Barcelona from this location.

Great Location La Rambla Upscale”

Great central location just off La Rambla. Our room was quiet for 4 nights. 5th night had some barking dogs and the kids (we’re 50+) in the hostel behind got a little noisy, but was short lived. King bed was awesome. Smallish room but ok. Only a couple English TV channel, but who’s there to watch TV!? Front desk staff were friendly, helpful; one helped us reserve 2 excursions by making the reservation and printing vouchers/tickets. Breakfast buffet was quite good but not exceptional. We took it only 1 day ($$) since cost was not in our room rate and lots of food in nearby market and bars. They held luggage no cost prior to our room being ready. Don’t expect early check in. It is a beautiful hotel, ornate. We did not go to roof top bar/pool. The lobby bar was never open. But no shortage of nearby bars. Taxis can come down the narrow street to the front door. Bathroom was good size and clean. Outlets are “Schuko” 220v (not North American style). Free Wifi decent speed.

Right next to La Rambla”

new and modern

Small but very modern and clean room, our window was facing the next building, being in the block of them do not expect any great views. It was fine for us though, as we only used at night. Location is very good and in the middle of La Rambla with lots of shopping and eating places around. As being advised, we were careful with valets and cameras though, apparently Barcelona well known for pocket picketing. Staff is very helpful, internal hotel design is impressive, price is reasonable.

Lovely hotel, great location”

Stayed 4 nights in a Deluxe room with a balcony overlooking the little street just off La Rambla & were extremely pleased with our choice. The hotel has made a real effort to retain some of the original features, but the rooms are modern & a good size, and the beds were about the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Despite being close to La Rambla there wasn't too much street noise. Within easy walking distance of La Rambla, the harbour & the Gothiic Quarter, as well as Pl Catalunya, which is the best place to pick up a bus to almost anywhere else you may want to go.

Excellent Location”

We stayed here the day after the terrorist attacks and the mood was very sad. We still enjoyed our stay and made the most of every day. The hotel is very nice but there were some inconsiderate guests talking outside the rooms in the early hours of the morning or late at night. Our room was next to the lift so I suppose we had more people passing. Other than that the terrace is lovely. The pool is very small and more for a dip than a swim, we didn't use it or see anyone using it. The staff on reception were very good. We stayed at this hotel room only. It is just off Las Ramblas and there are lots of cafes and restaurants on the street. My only warning is don't book taxi's through the hotel for the airport, use uber or the aerobus as the average taxi price is €25. We had no choice as the aerobus or the metro was closed as we travelled early morning 3am. The aerobus cost us around €5 each. The taxi driver charged us €40 back to the airport. When I questioned why so much he said sorry I don't understand English. He was talking fine when we got in the taxi and was chatting. Grrrrr! Rip off taxis.

I went to Barcelona with a friend for the first time. We were so happy when we realized how central the hotel is to most areas of Barcelona that we wanted to see. Most things were walking distance or a short cab ride away. We also loved how efficient and accommodating the hotel concierge was. They were on top of everything and so helpful and friendly. One small minus was that the shower: it took a bit of time to drain and sometimes the water would pour out of the seam in the door and go into a main part of the bathroom. The water closet ( toilet) was very small and not easy to close if you have long legs. On occasion the cleaning staff would forget to place items in the room. However we would call down to the front desk and the hotel concierge were quick to bring whatever we needed. The bar on the roof has an amazing sangria and a beautiful ambiance, the hotel itself is beautiful. Overall, I highly recommend staying there and would stay there again in the future.

Perfect Location, but balcony rooms are noisy”

Hotel was great, service and staff were excellent, but our third floor balcony room, facing Carrer de Sant Pau, was very noisy, due to the acoustics of the narrow streets. Even the normal conversations on the street below were amplified and came through the single pane glass doors. It is not an overly busy street, but with foot traffic until 3am and store deliveries starting as early a 6am, sleeping is difficult (earplugs would probably help), but the hotel's La Rambla location is excellent, with easy access to the Metro (Liceu Station only 150m away).
