The María Elena Palace is 300 metres from the Puerta del Sol in central Madrid. Its lobby has a beautiful glass roof, and it offers rooms with a hydromassage shower. The air-conditioned rooms at the María Elena are elegant and comfortable. They are equipped with a TV and the private bathrooms come with a hairdryer. The María Elena Hotel is 10 minutes’ walk from Paseo del Prado, home to the Thyssen, Prado and Reina Sofía Museums. The hotel is well connected to the rest of Madrid, with 3 metro stations within 300 metres.

Located right next to disco houses”
We were womdering why this centrally located hotel with spacious rooms and free breakfast was not too expensive. The reason is because it is right next to disco houses and every morning around 5am all of the party goers spill out onto the street and make their way through the narrow alley, which is the front of the hotel, to noisily and drunkenly walk to Plaza del Sol. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel, breakfast was awesome and service is spotty. But rooms are nice and new and spacious. Only certain travelers will appreciate this hotel.
It was my partners 21st birthday celebration”
The hotel was bright and modern, staff were nice and their English is very good. I booked a romantic room which I don’t think is worth any extra as we had a view of air vents and walls from our window and had to pay extra for a bottle of cava (€15) which is the same as the bottle down the road at €1.99! The location is great, everything is nearby. Overall we had an expensive but enjoyable time.
An excellent hotel but required a little improvement”
Excellent hotel The reception staff and the dining room are excellent, polite, try to help, provide service from the heart. Excellent location in the city center near Sol Square and all the important sites. The disadvantage is that there is noise from the street at night. You have to ask and remind them to clean the room. Adding breakfast vegetables would make meal from very good to perfect . When you enter the room there is an unpleasant and unexplained smell. It is important for the management to deal with cleaning the smells and sealing the noises. I would highly recommend it and I would return to it again.
Muy buen servicio. El personal siempre atento y de rápidas respuestas para solucionar cualquier inconveniente. Quiero destacar especialmente a Jaime por su amable atención. Sin quejas. Todo perfecto.
The hotel itself was great. The problem was our room looked over the street and every night from about 2AM to 5AM there was a LOT of noise - so much that it woke us up. I guess the bars nearby must close them and the noise of people talking just echoed off the walls. This happen all 4 nights we said so it was not just a weekend thing.
Hotel was lovely very central and near everything although a bit noisy at night ”
Staff were very nice friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and spacious. Hotel central near everything. Noisy at night as there are lots of nightlife nearby. No tea or coffee making facilities in room. Small stocked fridge in room bet did not keep contents cold.
Family vacation in Madrid”
I have traveled with my family with 3 young childrens. The Hotel, the room, the service and the helpful staff of the Hotel - all were more then satisfying. Adding the Hotel location was agreat time of Holiday to me and my family. We thank the Hotel peopole being part of our great and sucsessful vacation. Shamai
Very nice hotel lovely central location and very helpful staff.
amazing hotel , location and great value with super clean room with huge space
great suite, newly renovated hotel in very convenient location ”
We stay a week in december 2016 and everything was impeccable. The staff are accommodating and readily to assist. Free mini bar was another good way of getting on our good book. Highly recommended for travellers who like to stay in the central madrid.
Super nice central hotel”
Loved the central location near Sol metro station. Great looking Hotel inside, nice staff, room and breakfast. My only conplaint would be the set up of the bathroom which seemed to be over engineered! Book your room here anyway!
Old hotel, cramped room”
Location was very strategic. Right at city center with many restaurants and things to do. Nothing else to make this place a good hotel. Hotel room was very old, bed was very bad, room was very cramped, privacy was disturbed by house keeping. For a 4 star, there was no iron in the room and ironing service was charged since it was done by housekeeping. Lobby personnel was not so great and could have been more friendly.
Very good service all round.”
good location with reasonable price ”

Decent rooms but staff performance has become poor”
I used to stay at the Maria Elena Palace a lot, but tried several other hotels in Madrid. I returned to Maria Elena Palace again because it used to be quite good, but was really disappointed by the poor staff performance. They made me go up and down, between the reception and my room, because they have made mistakes, and have generally been a mixture of rude and not forthcoming. The junior staff was quite good in dealing with customers but their managers were very bad.
Overpriced but good location”
good location but expensive”
If you have more than one computer or smartphone, you have to pay 13.20 euros (including tax) for each device for 24 hours. All the other hotels I've been to had free wifi or allowed many devices for one price. There is one computer in the lobby but you have to pay for that as well. Tiny rooms. Only one person could walk at a time in the space between the foot of the bed and the wall!
Nice location with a little bit dated rooms”
Generally liked stay in the hotel. It is in a very calm place basicaly in the city center but not on the main street. Lobby is nice. Rooms are a little bit dated but still clean and comfortable. Rooms are quite as the rest of the hotel. Liked breakfast a lot as it was typical Spanish food nicely served in a stylish lobby.
good location and close to lots of restaurants and shopping. there were a few "ladies of the night" hanging around a shopping area not far from the hotel. walking distance to the city center. wifi is not free as it is in many locations, walked to starbucks or fridays in order to connect without charge. breakfast was just okay, nothing special. beds were as hard as rocks, asked for a room with softer mattress, was told they were all that way. they ended up placing a blanket under the sheets which helped only a little. staff not as friendly and helpful as the last place we stayed. room needed upgrades, still used an old type tv with only a couple of english language channels and one of those was from russia which had a slightly different view of things.
The Maria Elena Palace is an outstanding hotel with excellent facilities. The staff is courteous, responsive, and friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is conviently located near the Puerta del Sol, an area that abounds with shops and good restaurants. Only one negative: the hotel charges fgar too much for internet use, usally free at other hotels.
