definitely a good hotel compared to the competition”
pros: the staff at the reception always friendly and helpful; the breakfast that was included in my room rate was tasty and definitely enough food for a good start of a new day (+ it's served on the rooftop terrace) good location: no noise at night although walking distance to the main tourist areas; no issues with hot water cons: dirty towel and bed sheets not really clean either. WiFi signal not always accessible.

Great place, outstanding service!!!”
We stayed twice at this hotel, located very conveniently right in the middle of Thamel. The hotel manager and all staff were extremely helpful, taking care of all our needs, there was no problem leaving some luggage in the hotel storage facility while we were trekking. Room was very clean, and the roof top terrace where breakfast is served is just so inviting. Great place at a very reasonable price!

Above and Beyond”
The staff at the Hotel Family house were extremely friendly making all of us feel very comfortable. During one of the days that we had stayed there, a member of our group had lost their mobile phone somewhere in Kathmandu and the staff at the hotel family home went above and beyond in their attempt to help us recover the mobile going as far as helping us track down the cab that we had taken to return to the home and translating our flustered questions to the native people that couldn't understand our frantic requests. Ultimately the phone was found in a location 3 hours walk away from the hotel family house and had it not been for their efforts we would not have recovered it. On a side note from that dramatic tale the food was fantastic and a lovely cold litre bottle of water whenever requested. The only problem that I could find with the hotel family home was that very few cab drivers knew where Ashok Galli was located which in all honesty was not much of a problem as we did manage to find a taxi driver which we continued to use throughout our trip.

Somewhat Overpriced and Overrated”
Good Points: Located in the quiet area of town (Thamel/tourist section) near the Hotel Utse. On a side street - make sure to have phone number of hotel available if the cab driver gets lost. Also, this hotel is near the morning (departure) bus area - about a five minute walk, and the hotel will provide a porter to carry luggage (please tip him). Also good: Cleanliness - the bathroom was immaculate. Desk Staff and manage were friendly and helpful. The Spa next door does a good foot massage (one hour for $12 USD). Less than good points: (I stayed during the "high" season = late October/early November, that coincided with the Diwali festival, so the hotel's facilities were stretched to the max.) That being said, I booked my room several weeks in advance and asked for a room on a low floor (no elevator at this hotel). They gave me a room on the highest floor (just below roof terrace which is technically the highest floor.) I asked for a room with good internet access...unfortunately they put me on a floor with no router. On one of the evenings there was no internet all night despite the electricity working throughout the night. On one morning at 9:30am, I wanted to take a hot shower, but could only get lukewarm water despite running the tap for 20 minutes. (They need a bigger hot water catchment..other hotels can always provide hot water to all guests.) Finally, this hotel has no generator they were willing to use. Why is this important? Since there are frequent power cuts in Kathmandu in Nov-March, there needs to be substitute power supply at key times such as 5am to 8am and 5pm to 9pm from a gas-powered generator for folks to get the news on TV; use the internet...charge their cell phones, etc...this hotel failed on this count. I've been coming to Nepal since 1999. I have stayed in many hotels in the $10-$25 range. This hotel should be closer to the lower end of that price range for the value it provides.

Great option at a great budget and perfect location”
The hotel pleasantly surprised me. We booked a room for three as we were travelling in a group. Right from the time we landed at Kathmandu to the time we left, everything was taken care of by the hotel staff; right from arranging a pick up at the airport to arranging cabs for local travel and personally accompanying us to places we wished to visit. The room was cosy, spacious and well maintained. Our special requests for hot water, tea etc at odd hours were gracefully accommodated by the staff. All in all a great pick in a prime location at a reasonable budget with excellent amenities and courteous staff. However, one word of caution. They had arranged a trip for me to Pokhara but the hotel room at Pokhara turned out to be third rate. So better plan by yourself. Other than this minor glitch, it was an excellent choice.

Perfect stay! Little improvement required..”
Our stay was quite comfortable. The owner, Mr. Kapil is a nice and person. The supporting staff needs little improvement, as they didn't clean our room the whole day and we had to call room service to clean the room at 9 pm, though the response was quick and we got everything back to the place. Recommended for everyone.

Great value for money and the most welcoming staff”
My brother and I stayed here for a week and we were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality. Breakfast was complimentary and on the roof, offering a cozy environment to enjoy the morning. The owner made it a point to personally interact with each guest every morning during breakfast and ask them if their stay could be made more comfortable in any obvious way. Despite parts of Kathmandu not having power for almost 12 hrs every day, our stay was surprisingly good with WiFi, hot water and basic lighting available round the clock. This is pretty remarkable given the budget. The owner has been a trekking and tour guide for a long time and gives interesting titbits if you happened to have an extended conversation. Despite this, he is not pushy about getting hired as a guide and lets the guests decide for themselves as to how they want to roam around Nepal. We ended up roaming around a lot on foot and on bicycles and loved it. Check-in and check-out are very flexible and bottled water is provided on a complimentary basis (unfiltered or unbottled water is not safe to drink in Nepal). During our entire stay, we did not find even one dissatisfied guest. Given that the hotel is located in Thamel (a busy and noisy area of Kathmandu) the interior of this hotel is surprisingly quiet. I fully recommend staying here if you want a home like feeling during your stay at Kathmandu.

Wonderful experience in Hotel Family Home”
The Staff, the location, the restaurant
The staff are friendly and helpful. They are willing to give an extra step to solve our problems. Speical thanks goes to Mr Suman, who helped me to find a carelessly lost item. Other staff are always with a smiling face, provide useful tourist information. The roof restaurant is a positive surprise, which is clean and comfortable. The food are up to standard. I will recommend this hotel to travellers who enjoy free and easy stay in Kathmandu.
