A Slice of Pure Heaven!”

This is the most exquisite luxury hotel we've ever stayed at and we've been many places in the world. The moment you enter the property you feel like you've arrived in paradise. The gardens are amazing with an abundance of tropical plants and flowers. The property is taken care of with great love. Eileen and her staff do an amazing job. Their attention to detail is outstanding. Just when you think there couldn’t be anything more beautiful than the gardens you arrive to your room. What Eileen has achieved is a work of fantastical interior design! The art, furniture, rugs, chandeliers, even down to the bedding is breathtaking and it’s carried out throughout the entire hotel. Every nook and cranny is like an explosion of pure delight! We stayed 2 nights but had reservations at Intercontinental. As luck would have it there was an employee strike there. Eileen was so gracious and let us come back “home” for our last 2 nights in paradise. This is a magical place you have to see to believe!

Great place, just know what it is”

This is a fantastic little hotel on a spectacular beach. The facilities are UNIQUE, just know that. If you are looking for a more traditional hotel this is not it. You are staying at a living art installation, it's eclectic, meticullously curated and super bohemian, NOT POLISHED. Its clean and well kept. The location is amazing, we fed sharks, eels, rays and fish day and night from the deck. We didn't eat there as its not traditional, no real restaurant for a pop in snack or meal and my feeling is a car is a must. If you seek out off the beaten path, funky and beautiful than this is a great place for you. Also, rent your own boat and cruise out to the islands by yourself, no need for a tour.

A Hidden Paradise”

We spent our last two nights of a 2-week trip to French Polynesia at Fenua Mata'i'oa. It was the perfect conclusion to our trip to paradise. Eileen has created the Garden of Eden alongside the spectacular lagoon. And she is a wonderful host. Our room was spacious and immaculately furnished, with a wonderful bed and great shower (my priorities). My wife loved the antiques and the many unusual plants in the incredibly lush jungle garden. The best way to describe this incredibly unique hideaway is to imagine what it would be like to be royalty visiting Polynesia 100 years ago. We had the continental breakfast one of the mornings, and although very pricey at 4400 francs/pp (about 40 US$), it is a unique garden experience with wonderful pastries and fruit. Worth doing once. The friendly cats (now 10 of them wandering the property) are an added bonus. Price-wise, it is a mix. I found the accommodations to be a bargain for the price. But the add-ons are very pricey, roughly double what you'd expect to pay. Breakfast @ 4400/pp; a gin and tonic for 1700 francs (which limited my consumption to one); and wifi for 3000 francs (which we declined). We did not eat dinner there, finding the price a bit too steep. Personally, I'd have rather paid an extra 2000-3000 francs per night for accommodations, and had free wifi (which we've come to expect) and more reasonable food/drink options. But overall, Fenua Mata'i'oa is fairly priced for a very unique experience. Highly recommended as a place to relax and get away from it all.

Not our taste”

This is not a hotel it's more like a bed and breakfast. If your used to larger chains this is not for you. No room service, only a set menu and there is like 12 cats that roam and sit with you while you eat. Staff was really nice!

Hidden gem”

You have just arrived in French Polynesia after a long overnight flight and you want to experience the real Moorea...forget about all these big resorts that lack personality and go to Fenua Mata'i'oa instead. This little gem offers all you wish for and more: a lovely room surrounded by a really lush garden with lovely sea views for you to enjoy. Unlike large resorts it is very peaceful despite having everything on your doorstep. Food is outstanding too...epic breakfasts and local dishes for dinner:...Eileen will not let you starve!! Eileen, the proud owner of this hidden gem, makes this place even more special. She will make sure you have the best possible time here and will look after you exceptionally well. Trust her when she recommends activities or places to see: she knows best and we were never disappointed. We had an amazing stay and would definitely come back. Eileen can be proud of her place: it's intimate, welcoming, quirky and full of character...what else would you need...many thanks!!!

Beautiful place, we really loved our stay.”

Location, food, and charm

We had a great 6 night stay. The food there was amazing and healthy. The location can't be beat. It is right on the lagoon and there is a small grocery and restaurants near by. The staff was helpful and very nice.if you're looking for an alternative to the large resorts we highly recommend this small boutique hotel.

Very good”
