The Best of Kyoto”

I pinch myself when I think about my first - 14 day experience in Kyoto & apan. I've told people I "lucked" out with my choice of staying at the Gran Ms Kyoto. The location was perfect for my choice to tour some of the most important Zen Gardens/Temples that Kyoto has to offer. Once I got comfortable with the area - which was helped by the maps the staff gave me, I was able to take buses, trains, subways very easily. The location made it perfect for walking to and from many of the areas attractions. I was also very impressed by the staff, they were friendly and took the time to help a non Japanese traveler/speaker. I knew the room was going to be small and that's OK for me. The rates were great for a time of year (oct/nov) when things can be somewhat expensive for a busy period. Kyoto is a beautiful city and to appreciate it fully, you need to be in good location that is central to restaurants, temples, historic areas, shopping & nature - The Hotel Gran Ms Kyoto is perfect for all these adventures! Thanks once again to the staff, who were also perfect!

Wonderful Stay Again”

This is my second time coming to Kyoto within 3 months. My first stay in Hotel Gran Ms Kyoto was wonderful and this time it didn't disappoint me. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. They would greet me whenever I enter or leave the hotel. The room was very clean even though the room I stayed this time is a little bit old. That was complete okay for me. The location of this hotel is probably one of the bests in Kyoto. You can pretty much go everywhere with ease. Nishiki Market is a walkable distance. There are many bus stops right beside the hotel if you need to travel far. The subway is just 4-5min walk from the hotel. Around the hotel, there are many restaurants and shops. I will highly recommend this to others :)

Great 2 night stay”

The location of the hotel was great as it was near to the main tourist attractions (Nishiki Market [10 min walk], Nishiki Shopping District [7 min walk], Potoncho Alley [8 min walk], Gion [10 min walk]) and it is within 5 min walk from the nearest subway station (Kyoto Shiyakusho-Mae). The hotel rooms were clean and well maintained. Overall, a great stay in Hotel Gran Ms Kyoto.

Excellent”

Comfortable room (king room is quite spacious), all toiletries provided, coin laundry available. Staff speak excellent English & are pleased to help, though they will not provide early check-in & baggage storage is just out in the foyer. WiFi was slow. Location was good, although Kyoto's public transportation system leaves a lot to be desired after having been to Tokyo & Osaka (both much easier to get around in using just the JR pass, whereas in Kyoto you must shell out for subway, bus, or bike rental; however, all three are easily accessible from Hotel Gran Ms). It was also less than a kilometre away from the major shopping district, and there were many restaurants & convenience stores just steps away.

Hotel is tucked in an alley that is walking distance to many facilities. I am a fan of movies, so when I went there for my honeymoon, Hotel Gran Ms Kyoto is conveniently located opposite a movie theater. Room's a little cramped and it faced a "graveyard". We are ok as long as the windows are closed. Staff service was awesome. They provided heat packs for guests in winter which I appreciate very much! Thank you!

We loved our stay at the Hotel Gran Ms Kyoto. It's in a great location in a lane off one of the main streets and not a long walk to Gion. We were there in cherry blossom season which was chaotic and were very thankful to have a huge room with super comfortable beds to come home to.

Great First-Time Stay in Kyoto”

Initially chose this hotel based on reviews and price. The reviews seemed to repeat two things: amazing location and the free washer/dryer service! 1. The location was truly GREAT. Central Kyoto's shopping street was literally 50m away from the lobby. Teramachi Shopping Arcade (2min walk), Sanjo station (5min walk), Gion/Pontocho (10min walk). We were also surrounded by restaurants, bakeries and shops. It was great. 2. The washer/dryer service on level 2 really did come in handy! English instructions available, easy to follow. 3. 15 min taxi ride from Kyoto station (1000-1500 yen) 4. The room was very clean and also quite small! It's definitely efficient. As two Asian ladies, we fit just fine. Toiletries/towels were lovely and replenished daily, along with complimentary bottled water. Overall a great stay (especially for Kyoto first-timers), would definitely come back during our next Kyoto visit!

Very good location, good room size and good service”

We (7 travellers) stayed at Gran Ms for 2 nights at Deluxe Rooms and 1 night at Japanese Style Deluxe Room. The location of the hotel is very good, 3 minutes to subway station and 8 minutes to Nishiki Market. Plenty of restaurants, bakery and mini market steps away from the hotel. The room is not big but not too small also, sufficient for budget travellers. The staff is very polite and helpful although we think a bit slow. The japanese style room is comfortable, although it is too tight for 7 of us. The capacity of the room is up to 8 people, but 7 of us without our suitcases (already sent to Tokyo that night) already made the room cramped. The futon is modern style so it is very comfortable.

Location is right on the Kawaramachi-sanjo shopping street and if you take the bus from the JR Kyoto station, it stops you 1min from the hotel! Getting around Kyoto to visit the various shrines and temples are also a breeze all bus stops and/or subway stops are at most 10mins walk away. Staff was ever ready to help with queries, no question was too ridiculous. Our King room was a good size too, with us able to open up 2 medium size luggages with ease. All in all, a great hotel to stay at and I would definitely come back again!

Great location but no air con at night”

Pros: Fantastic location. Almost all staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful. Comfortable (firm) beds. Cons: No food/room service. Air conditioning is unable to be controlled by guests. This was our main problem when staying. Guests do not control whether their room runs heating or air conditioning - it is centrally controlled for each floor. So on night #1 we went to sleep with the cooling on, and awoke at 3am in a sweat as staff had switched it to heating. This is also handled inconsistently by different staff. The next night we requested the cooling in our room to remain on all night, and it did. Night #3 we assumed the cooling would be left on again, but yet again woke at 3am in a room like a sauna. This time I called reception and they explained that "lots of people" were using the heating so they could not switch it to cooling. Night #4 we again made the request for cooling to remain on, however this staff member said that while it was currently on cooling, if someone requested heating they would turn that on. We then requested that our window be unlocked (I assume it was locked as we were on the 9th floor) so we could at least get some cool air during the night, despite battling street noise. Had there been any other available hotels in Kyoto we would have moved, as sleepless nights aren't great before full days of sightseeing. Wouldn't stay here again because of this, but if room temperature isn't an issue for you then this place was great. Hotel Gran Ms needs to fix their advertising and website to reflect this issue, as I specifically check for availability of air conditioning in guest rooms prior to booking, and this was a major frustration on our trip. Can't imagine it would be very comfortable in summer if they turn the heating on because one person requests it.

Tiny room but great location”

The room is way too little for two people, there is no closet whatsoever, just several hangers, two suitcases barely fit in, some rooms' windows face the inneryard wall of another building (which is a yakiniku place, so it always smells of fried meat) therefore no day light is coming in and it makes the room even less appealing. Considering the size of the room and no breakfasts included it was rather expensive even for Japan and even for cherry-blossom season. The hotel is saved only by its location - it stands in the very heart of shopping streets and centers, so there are plenty of restaurants (mind the prices though), there is also a bus stop and 7/11 store literally right next to the hotel. On the 2nd floor of the hotel we found free washing machines and driers, but there are only 2 of each, which makes it complicated doing your laundry (with huge unorganized line of people, who sometimes happen to be very rude - they throw your clothes out of the machine in the middle of the cycle and mix it up with somebody else's). Plus take into account that drying cycle is 60 mins BUT you'll need to use it twice to get the clothes actually dry, however for desperate situations I guess it's a nice bonus. All in all, I believe it's a great option for your stay in Kyoto if you book it 6 months before your trip so that the prices are reasonable. Although I personally think it's way better AND cheaper to enjoy sakura blooming period in Nara rather than in Kyoto.

Great value, spacious and welcoming hotel in centre of Kyoto”

The room was simple, but spacious and spotless. The 2 x wide single beds for my friend and I were very comfortable, with good, western style pillows and duvets (no need to bring your own!). I slept like a log. There was a kettle, fridge and hairdryer in the room. We looked onto a neighbouring building, but that was no problem, as we were in Kyoto to see the autumn leaves, not spend time in the hotel (though I overheard a lady complaining very rudely to the charming staff that she didn't have a view, and demanded to be moved...I was VERY surprised, as this hotel is SUCH GOOD VALUE for money, I don't understand how anyone could be complaining about anything...). There was no option for breakfast here, but since there are 4 cafes within minutes of the place, it's not a problem. We had a wonderful breakfast in a nearby French bakery with attached restaurant (Bakery Cafe Sizuya?). I would definitely stay here again, as it was very central, and only about 20 minutes to Kyoto Station by bus.

Perfect location!”

This hotel is on a main street in Kyoto. There is a 7-eleven next door which is perfect for picking up a light snack, getting out cash, etc. The hotel is about a mile from Gion (very easy/nice walk) and only a block from the Teramachi dori shop and market place, which is also where you'll find the Nishiki Market. I would 100% stay here again. The bus from Kyoto station drops you off directly out from, there is a bus stop with a bus directly to Arashiyama across the street and it was a great location for venturing out and about from. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants near by. The room was also very nice. The hotel also held our luggage for us when we arrived super early and we were able to go about and explore. It was raining and they also have free umbrellas for you to borrow. We stayed for 3 nights.

Great hotel at great location”

I really like this hotel, good value for money, great location - nearby train station and bus terminal. Its walking distance to kawaramachi shopping street and Nishiki market. We would love to come back to this hotel for our next visit to Kyoto !
