Hidden Gem -- cozy friendly guesthouse in Thamel!”
I stayed at Hotel Himalaya Yoga in Thamel, Kathmandu for more than a week. Initially, I only booked for 2 nights. I came here because of a positive review from a Kathmandu Guide book. I extended my stay after the first 2 nights. I've been staying in this hotel for a week already. Will stay for a few more days before I head to India. These are the good things about this hotel: 1) the hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating. I had back problem. After my first night, I requested a better mattress. The hotel gladly gave me an almost new mattress. I was grateful. 2) WIFI is just important for downloading useful apps for traveling, like maps. Also great for booking air tickets and hotels, finding out tourist attractions etc. Their WIFI speed is 3 Mbits (most hotels are less than 1.5 Mbits in Thamel. I tested a few of them including restaurants). 3) Power outage in Nepal (locally, they call it "loading shedding) is common. No power means no electricity and no water (they need electricity to pump the water). At Hotel Himalaya Yoga, I never need to worry about the loading shedding schedule. I was able to take hot showers whenever I want. I could always charge up my phone and ipad anytime. I was free at this hotel! By the way, I stayed at two other places before coming to Hotel Himalaya Yoga. So I had experienced how inconvenient it was without hot water (or simply just water to flush the toilet) and electricity to charge devices). 4) Free yoga classes in the morning. 5) Great FREE big breakfast in the morning. I was shocked to receive the huge breakfast on my first morning. When I asked for an omelette, the chef honored my request agreeably! 6) The hotel keeps the toilet and common areas clean. 7) The hotel is very central, next to the Hot Breads Bakery (they have 50% on their bread after 9:30pm daily). And it is right across a big supermarket which has everything you need if you forget to bring something from your home country. Laundry serv

A peaceful Mecca”
My stay at hotel Himalaya Yoga was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. In the mornings, we attended yoga classes for free that were taught by a wonderfully warm teacher. Also, the staff gave us excellent advice about trekking and helped us every step of the way. The day we were leaving, all the busses to Besishar were booked and the staff called all the bus companies to ensure a safe and successful trip to our next location. I would definitely come back to stay at Hotel Himalaya Yoga when I'm back in Kathmandu!

Hotel Himalaya Yoga is a quirky, simple hotel in a back-alley of a smaller street in Thamel, thus nice and quiet despite its central location. The hotel has a nice, small inner courtyard with simple sitting-facilities. Rooms are very basic, and somewhat old-fashioned, though quirky and thus interesting. We stayed at the family room, which had 2 bedrooms (1 w/ bunkbed, 1 w/ large double bed) and a hallway with sitting options, as well as a small bathroom. There was some smell from the vent of next-door's restaurant, but all in the range of bearable. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, despite big Nepali holidays, and eating options were within 1 minute of walking. This is an excellent location for a Thamel visit on a low budget!

Nice staff, interesting interior”
The agoda system showed that breakfast was included, but actually when I got there the staff explained that dormitory plan didn't include breakfast. It seemed that there's some system mistake in agoda, and hope agoda has noticed it now. Luckily the staff agreed to offer me a free breakfast, and it's delicious. Thank you Himalaya Yoga! I left Nepal that morning with only 365 Rs left to pay for the taxi to airport. Without your breakfast I would be hungry until noon.

Ideal tourist location, good value for money”
I found this hostel to be in the perfect location of Thamel. Great restaurants around, and a hookah bar with live music at night just down the road. It was simple to check in and out, the owner even helped organize a taxi for me to Nagarkot. There’s no yoga on weekends so I missed that. It had a beautiful “hang out” area where you can order breakfast. Would highly recommend to travelers and I’ll be coming back when I come back to Kathmandu

FREE YOGA, Lovely staff, Perfect location ”
I stayed 5 nights and am so happy I did. Comfortable bed, hot showers (when no power outage) and tasty food. Great value for you money! It is peaceful, not a social backpacker hostel. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys yoga and wants to stay in Kathmandu a few nights.

Great staff!!!”
They picked us up from the airport and the driver waited for us for two hours due to the flight being late and then sat in an hour of horrible traffic but had a smile on his face the whole time. The staff is very friendly. The rest of the rooms were full so they upgraded us to a in suite bathroom. It's a super convenient location for tourists. Yoga was great and anything you need they will help you with here like booking tickets and so on. Breakfast was good and hot and cold drinking water on hand at all time. The only down side was the shower the water pressure was weak and the water was only luke warm during our stay which I can totally handle in warmer climates but Nepal is sooooo cold and it lead me to go the three days I stayed here without a shower.

Neat building, nice facilities, kind staff”
Free yoga classes! The building interiors have a lot of character, big rooms with lots of space, clean en suite bathroom with hot water, wifi in garden area and breakfast available for purchase. I liked the ambience and people so I stayed here twice (pre & post trek). Not a party hostel, good for post-trek relaxation. I love small touches like the prayer wheel at the entrance and the pretty old wall bookshelves and ceiling decorations in the rooms!

Free Breakfast & Yoga!”
Liked this place a lot so we stayed here for another night on our last day in Nepal. Staff is really great. Upgraded our room again. They are there whenever you need them to answer any questions. Other great interesting travelers there also. Cool books to read. The yoga teacher was very chill. He had a different approach than what I am use to but he was a great teacher and it was a good experience over all. Would stay here again :D THANKS!

Good Service but poor facilities”
I would say that the location of Hotel Himalaya Yoga is really good (lies in the heart of Thamel shopping area) though it was initially hard to find due to the many signboards along the streets and it being known by the locals as Himalaya Yoga Meditation Centre instead. It was nice of them to serve us tea upon arrival too However, the bad experience kicked in when we wanted to have a bath/use the toilet...the water that flowed out of the tap was murky yellow which was gross, the toilet flushing system was faulty, I had a minor electric shock when I touched the shower tap (something wrong with the heater perhaps)..and one has to wait for at least 15mins for the water to heat up before you can bath...Due to all these problems, we actually asked for a change of room, the staff was very kind and told us that he would allow us to stay in a bigger room that was more expensive for free.. However, we were astonished when we saw the bedsheet in the bigger and "better" room wet..there was water leaking from the top of the room and the room actually gave us a creepy vibe..like a haunted castle with all the superb old wooden furniture, ancient looking toilet door (like a dungeon door)..so we decided to go back to our previous room despite the faulty toilet system..Well, it was an interesting experience though but I must say, the service was good.

The location of hotel is at the central of Thamel just a bit hard to find it at first. Everything seems okay for me probably is because I was the only one in the dormitory haha btw they have free yoga everyday on 8am

Nice hostel in the heart of Thamel”
Right in the heart of Thamel, means don't forget your earplugs. During my stay yoga classes were cancelled as the teacher had a few days off and aparrently no one cared about getting a substitute. The place has great reviews but there were just a few guests most of the time. I wonder why as the place is nice and I really liked it there! Rooftop dorm is spaceous and has no wifi. Staff constantly begs for 5* reviews (must be orders from boss who often sniffs around). Annoying it is, so I lowered my rating accordingly.

Location, staff, breakfast ”
If it weren't for the dirty sheets and towels I'd say this hotel is very good. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was pretty decent but there's no excuse for towels that didn't look like they had been washed. However, I'm into my second week in Nepal I'm beginning to notice the same in other hotels and after having had my laundry come back smelling anything but fresh I'm beginning to wonder about the washing methods. It doesn't appear that much detergent is used and certainly no bleach. Not good for a hotel if the towels "were" white. The free yoga was a noce touch even if we didn't take advantage of it. All in all it was good for a short stay.

I have arrived without passport(left it in the taxi). They cheered me up and guided to me right direction to find my passport. They really helped me like it's their problem. less than 24 hrs later I had my passport back. any questions you have, they have the answer. so flexible so easy going. This place is what backpackers appreciated the most. if you are checking review to see how ok is this place. Just book and stay. You will know what I'm writing about. enjoy your future stay!!! I will certainly come back and stay here again.
