Peaceful spot in noisy Kathmandu”
We had 2 stays here during our trip to Nepal, one stay of 4 nights, 2 of which were on an organised tour which we extended to 4 nights. We then came back after a lovely trip to Chitwan. The hotel was clean and comfortable with lovely extensive grounds. Food good, and well stocked varied breakfasts. The rooms were well equipped and clean, and the wifi was good. All the staff, particularly the restaurant staff were friendly and very helpful. Can get a bit crowded sometimes whilst conferences and weddings and other parties are taking place. Would definitely return there if ever visiting Kathmandu again

Highly recommended”
Excellent stay with Hotel Himalaya. The rooms are bright and well-designed. It is definitely one of the best hotel options in Kathmandu city, regardless of the length of stay.

Nepal Hotel”
We enjoyed our stay very much. Nepal can be exhausting and it was always great to return to the calm and relaxing atmosphere of the Himalaya Hotel

Good”
The Himalaya caters mostly guests for workshops, meetings and the like and thus guests whose bills are paid by others (as were ours). This clearly has had its influence on in particular senior restaurant staff, showing little or no interest in guests unless a large group of tourists comes in. Its also reflected in the prices for foods and drinks like $6.5 for a beer, causing the bar to be completely empty all day except for a one hour happy hour. WiFi connections are poor, even for Kathmandu standards. Our executive room was perfectly fine, but closer to 21m2 than the 31m2 . The back rooms enjoy non stop noise of the generator. Extremely poor was the green murky half empty pool for the entire 9 nights we stayed, and that in the middle of the peak season with day temperatures of 30+ Celsius. The need to do something about this was clearly not understood, given a question of staff why we did not swim. We have not seen anyone trying to do so. In short, for us it was ok arriving here for work, independent travelers/couples who hope to spoil her/himself after a serious trekking will be heavily disappointed in the value for a lot of money.

A very good hotel in not so great location”
The hotel will be remembered for great rooms and good buffet breakfast. Nicely designed campus with large lobby area as well as pool side sitting area. Nice well behaved reception staff for assistance. Hassle free currency exchange was another great advantage. The only con was absence of hand shower with the WC. Expecting all travelers to use only toilet paper was not matured thinking on part of Hotel management. It would have been a great option for a price bracket of 4 to 6 thousand but not beyond. Overall a nice comfortable place to stay.

OK value”
I oped to stay at the Himalaya on the advice of my colleague in Kathmandu, and because there is a gym and a pool. I had a room on the fourth floor. The room was good, albeit only moderate value for money at USD 100. The bathroom is old style - a tub that you need to clamber in and out of for a shower. Water is hot in the morning; not so much in the evening. The wifi connection was good. The problem was the sheets, which felt old and soiled, and the air conditioning, which would go off in the middle of the night. In the summer, aircon is useful. The gym is in a newly constructed buliding and is modern and well equipped. The pool - not so modern, and not ideal for exercise or relaxation (it is L shaped; the water is chlorinated and always cloudy; and for some reason is only filled to a depth of about three feet, rather than the four feet indicated). This makes swimming an obligation rather than a pleasure. Staff in the dining room probably need to be trained in customer service. There is a frequent lack of attentiveness. But that said, the Himalaya has it's charms, and I will no doubt stay there again sometime.

Excellent stay!”
Overall great stay, the only recommendation for the hotel is that wifi in the room should be included in the price. These days with people's reliance of wifi access, this is really unfortunate.

Lovely old building, takes you back in time”
A lovely, stately hotel with a nice garden, outdoor pool and decent gym. There was also a tennis court though we didn't end up using it. Breakfast was nice, the lobby bar was cute, people were lovely, and there were some good local restaurants and shops within walking distance.

Business & NGO clientele ”
If attending a conference in the hotel or working close by, this hotel is a good choice. Otherwise it is a little isolated from the tourist area of the city and is at least a 10 min taxi ride to the closest restaurant/bar district. I experienced difficulty with the internet. Even though I was paying for the service, the signal was weak and, the night I was there, the internet was not connecting to the rooms on the particular side of the hotel I was assigned. My money was refunded but the loss of work time was frustrating.

Not Worth It”
It is said to be one of the iconic hotels in Kathmandu and i paid almost USD 110 for it. But there after everything went downhill. Wifi was not free in the room against the promise that it was. Hotel lobby was extremely shabby and old. Buffet was quite basic and average in taste. Infact the food was not really worth it. Room was in good condition though still need the upgrade. Service was slow and swimming pool was small. Wont really recommend it to anyone. Even the location was a bit remote as the tourist district of thamel at noon was 30 mins away and 15-20 mins away at night.
