Renovated in 2012, this hotel occupies a privileged position close to Izmir International Fair. It is located in the historic city centre of Izmir, within easy reach of shopping and business centres.
Once called Smyrna, Izmir houses Turkey’s second largest port (after Istanbul) and a host of historical sites for you to explore, including Ephesus City and Mother Mary Church. In addition to this, the Bergama and Cesme districts are found nearby.
Just 15 km away from the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, each of the hotel’s rooms are completely soundproof to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.

smart little hotel placed conveniently”
very helpful recption personnel
The neighbourhood was not very respectable, but the location was convenient for accessing public transport for site-seeing. There were also a number of eating places with good food.
We arrived at the Kocaman and realised the pictures had been taken some years before, and the hotel was now a little jaded. However, it was the cheaper end of the market, so it was to be expected. The first room we were shown was OK but although the toilet had one of those paper bands round it that hotels are so fond of nowadays, it still had excreta on and around it. We were shown to another room, immediately. The rooms were in need of re-furbishing
The glazing allowed all the street noise into the room all through the night, so we never had a full nights sleep during our stay.
The position of the hotel in Basmane did allow for easy exploration of the city centre, so we did get to the Bazaar, the sea-front and the Agora on foot. Although the hotel boasted TV in every room, all channels were Turkish, not even an English news channel; not a problem for us, but it could be for some.
Breakfast was not brilliant, and even though we were down an hour before the end of the serving period, many of the dishes were empty and weren't replenished.
Overall this was well below the standard of 3 star that we expect, even in Turkey. Believe it or not, The Hilton is only rated one star above this by some travel companies, but in comparison was light years away.
