A Great Place For a Honeymoon”
Rangiroa is more isolated then Moorea or Bora Bora, the more impressive the level of quality of food and accommodations in this little island. Food service is excellent and has a french class to it. The grounds are beautiful and constantly being tended to. The room was wonderful if not a little bit rustic, which we loved, so it worked well with us. And they don't nickel and dime you if you want to make a coffee in the your room or use one of the complementary waters they provide. Other places we went to in French Polynesia it was all about up-sell and getting every dime from you, not here.
Amazing location, hotel in need of an upgrade”
Amazing location, property is in need of an upgrade and staff were tired and not that interested in the guests We stayed in a beachfront bungalow which was lovely however not that private and in need of a renovation Good for a stopover would not want more than a few nights here Food was average with not many options and breakfast was not up to scratch
Love Rangiroa and the sauvage”
Great location and bungalows. Sauvage is exceptional. Main hotel is getting dated and over priced for the facilities but still overall a good expensive. There is a monopoly in Rangiroa so not much other choice unless you choose pension style accomodation which is as nice and cheaper. Shame Kia Ora Sauvage is closing down in April. I would definitely go before it shutdown.
The staff is rather kind and warm-hearted. Aki helped us a lot during our stay. One- day pink sand beach trip was wonderful and worthy with manta and tiger shark. Within driving distance, you can see dolphins. Just check with the hotel staff before heading to the dolphin pass. We love this nice place and surely will come back some day.
Staff was sometimes a little nonchalant like they couldn't be bothered!
Very expensive piece of paradise and rather underwhelming”
The room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. The hotel is in a great position on the beach with a lovely infinity pool. The food was well presented and tasty. And Adrien who did the airport transfers was always so smiley and welcoming. The reason I won't recommend it is that, for the money, a lot of money, I would have expected a few basics to be available. I would have liked the air conditioning to be satisfactory for the whole bungalow, not just the bedroom. I couldn't stop the jacuzzi turning itself on randomly day and night outside my bedroom with the associated noise. There was neither a mosquito net or any other methods for stopping the insects biting me badly until I went to the supermarket for some repellent. And the set times and menu choice for food was both limited and extremely expensive. You don't want to be told the only snack available is a sandwich and you can't actually get anything at certain times. The local pensiones look much better value.
Nice get away on a remote island”
Wife and I decided to extend our stay in the French Polynesia after chartering a sailboat in Bora Bora. We picked Rangiroa for its diving. There are not many choices on the island for a resort, I think there is one other "hotel", but Kia Ora was great. I felt the value to money was good and typical of any resort. You could always eat at some of the restaurants but please realize this is a very tiny community and that other restaurants will be very different than Kia Ora in terms of atmosphere. I recommend renting the scooter or bikes and go explore. You can definitely get some beer and wine cheaper at some of the convenience stores on the main road. There really is only one road. Note that most places are closed between 11 and 2 or 4 and all places are closed on Sunday. We had a beach bungalow and the view of the lagoon was great. Bungalow has ok air conditioning but just open a window to create a draft for the day and you should be good and use AC at night. Felt the bungalow was comfortable and we really don't have any complaints with it. We didn't spend a lot of time in it either though. Service was great and everyone was nice to us. The resort has a buffet with dance show on Sundays and Wednesdays. I highly recommend this as the food had a nice variety and the show put on by a local dance company (with kids and adults) was very well done. We enjoyed every minute of it. All in all, Rangiroa and Kia Ora are very laid back places and you can really escape. Even the internet is so slow you won't bother. :-)
An excellent trip to Rangiroa and the hotel/staff really made the trip!”
We were already scheduled to stay 3 nights in Rangiroa at the Kia Ora hotel and spa and having and excellent stay... the night before we were to depart, we found out from the hotel reception that our flight to Tikehau (just a short 5 minute flight away) was cancelled - indefinitely! Apparently some airport firemen at the Tikehau airport went on strike and shut down all ability to enter OR leave this island! So we were not able to go to Tikehau (and about 100 unfortunate tourists were TRAPPED in Tikehau because they could not leave!)... luckily, we were able to book three more nights instead to stay at the Kia Ora hotel and in Rangiroa. It was such a delight to stay the extra nights-we got to do so much more than we would have because we had planned such a short stay originally. And the best part was the amazing staff there... Gerry, the manager was so kind to us.. Jean Michael in the restaurant... Grace in the front desk - i can't name them all because there were so many that made our stay special! We will be back and highly recommend! By the way... no other hotel on the island even comes close to the quality of Kia Ora - it's a no brainer if you're looking for a higher end resort!
Best hotel in Rangi, recently renovated”
We were In the overwater bungalows, very modern and convenient, nice large terrace, good buffets twice per week including local dances. For diving we chose Rangiroa Diving Center, much less expensive than Top Dive. The only thing to improve is the internet bandwidth but it is in the hand of OPT.
Too Expensive for services- charges for everything incluing seeing Dolphins if you missed one free .”
Food was good - but too expensive- most activities charged fees
The best hotel in Rangiroa”
We've been to this beautiful island 2nd time. We enjoyed staying at the beach bungalow. The location is good because you can watch dolphins by bicycle. It takes 5 minutes there from the hotel. The hotel has a shop but it's too expensive so you would better to rent-a-cycle and go shopping at local shops. It costs 900CF/4hours but you can watch dolphins on the way to shops. Jumping dolphins are shown up around 5pm everyday. One bad point is about mosquites. The hotel doesn't enough take care of it. They don't have any mosquito coil of incense so we were bitten by them every night.
Rest and peace”
I loved the accommodations. I would recommend the private pool villa. The staff was nice. The views/beach was beautiful. If you want a nice tranquil and relaxing vacation this is the place to go. I loved that there wasn't a lot of people and it didn't have a big resort feel. The only downside is that there was specific times for breakfast, lunch and dinnt er. I like to sleep in and take naps on vacation so I like for food to be available pretty much at all times or at least all day not only at select times, even if it's an abbreviated menu.
The jacuzzi wouldn't turn off. There was no welcoming gift. The AC didn't cool the room. The beach bunglows dind't have beach, the beach was a short distance walk.
Nice play to stay”
I regreat not to have the beach bungalow with hot jacuzi and sea view that I reserved for. The villa even if they are bigger are located in the garden and have a cold tiny pool.
