A brand new hotel right on the ocean.”
La Veranda di Serena is a new hotel at the eastern end of Unawatuna. The owner and his family are lovely people who will do whatever they can to make your stay an enjoyable one. The hotel is located right on the water and there is a small private beach with deck chairs. Off the beach is a rocky reef with a few small outcrops of live coral and some tropcal fish. I even saw a turtle just 10 metres from the shore. A dive operation is only a few doors away for those wanting to dive or snorkel further afield. La Veranda is a small hotel and has a nice atmosphere. It must be one of the few places you can stay where your waiter is also the man who carved the beautiful timber finishings in the bathrooms throughout the hotel.

Best location in Unawatuna”
This is the perfect place to stay in Unawatuna with its own private beach and amazing views of the Indian ocean and just 3 minutes walk from the main beach. The owner is super attentive and knowledgeable. It's like staying at a friend's house rather than in a hotel! Although it's only a 3 star hotel the views and the service more than make up for the other things that you would find in a 5 star one. The sound of the waves crashing right underneath the bedrooms may be a little disturbing to start with but one soon gets used to it after the first night and it surely beats noisy traffic or music! This was our first visit to Unawatuna but we'll definitely be returning there and once again La Veranda di Serena will be our choice of hotel without a doubt.

Out of this world!”
What a 'Gem' of a place we discovered through Agoda! From the minute we arrived at ' La Verandah Di Serena' to the minute we left we were treated special! The owner (Chandran) his family and staff could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble! The welcome fruit juice was pretty amazing! We stayed in the 'Penthouse Apartment' which had amazing facilities and an awesome view of the sea and Unawatuna! We went to sleep and awoke to the sound of waves crashing! Nothing was too much trouble for the owner, from booking us a Tuk-Tuk, organising our full jeep safari trip to even taking us to the bank in Galle! It was our Anniversary whilst we were there and the owners wife cooked us an authentic Sri Lankan curry, it was probably the best meal we had in Unawatuna! We felt totally and utterly spoilt and are planning our next trip there in 2015!

Loved this boutique hotel, great staff”
We really enjoyed our stay here. I can't say enough great things about the staff. My friends and I occupied two rooms for 3 nights which really made our experience in Sri Lanka. The staff is wonderful, even checking to make sure we were all in at the end of the night before closing the gate. Breakfast is made to order and wonderful. They serve a variety of omlettes but we really enjoyed the traditional Sri Lankan omelette every morning. The room is very clean and bed comfortable. The bathroom was also very modern and large. We did not find any issues with the room and there is an outlet converter provided in the room. One night, the electricity went out for 10 minutes and the staff immediately came up to our room with a candle and assured us the power would be on soon. The staff also speak good English and will arrange tuktuks for all activities. We will recommend this hotel to our friends. Thank you La Veranda di Serena for making our trip memorable!

Amazing little hotel, great location even better service”
We had a wonderful time visiting La Veranda Di Serena. I was researching where to stay in Unuwatuna for about 2 weeks and couldn't decide SO HAPPY I went with this place! It's walking distance from the main beach and all the excitement of Unuwatuna. Even better, you have your own little beach right outside your door! The breakfast was lovely, and the service remarkable. We were so dissapointed we didn't book for longer! We did a day trip to Marissa with a scooter they booked for us, they had a tuk tuk ready for us the day we left, they even made us an authentic Sri Lankan breakfast! Definitely going back!

This little hotel that has everything.”
we,a family with grown up children, had a wonderful week in la veranda. it is a quite family hotel that is brand new. comfort and cleaness is excellent. a little private beach with coconuts, from where you can see turtles coming in the afternoon, makes the surroundings perfect.the waves are constantly breaking against the shore, really close to the table where you get served a delicious breakfast. the owner and his staff are really caring for their guests. if you want to visit other places the owner will arrange tours for you. an absolute advantage is that it is only a few minutes walk to unawatuna beach, which is a beautiful beach, but very noisy both day and night.

Perfect”
Chandana could not have done more to make our stay perfect. Everything was clean and well serviced, breakfasts were delicious. My friends were sick during our stay and Chandana assisted with getting them to private hospital in Galle, organising medicines from the pharmacy etc. The power plugs were the older circular type and when I mentioned I had the UK plugs he organised for it to be charged over for me. One of his staff even stopped my young child from running on to the road. We couldn't have been made more welcome and they couldn't have done any more to make our stay perfect. Definitely recommend staying at Hotel Veranda Di Serena

Perfect!”
This is a gem of a hotel. It is independently run by the very hands-on owner. The two boys who do a fantastic job of keeping you fed and your room services are hard working, polite and really very charming. You get the strong feeling that you are valued, but without any of the fawning (tip encouraging behaviour of staff at larger chain hotels), so you just feel wonderfully looked after. The views are fantastic, the sea side balconies literally overhang the sea at high tide, and there a super little private beach with loungers if you want to avoid the crowds. The main Unawatuna beach is a short walk (down the rather busy road) and there are some great restaurants to be sought out, both walking distance and a few minutes yuk tuk ride away at the other end of the beach . The owner is very happy to suggest excursions and will arrange pretty much anything you want to do or see. Can't recommend it enough for a mid price value for money hotel with heaps of advantages. NOTE: The Sri Lankans love to beep their horns. The road behind the hotel is a bit busy, but with the surf crashing you don't really hear it at all. I am a really light sleeper and any noise like that would usually keep me awake, but with the sound of the sea out front I slept like a baby every night. When you do hear the beeping it's no interuption, just part of the colour of the place: in fact it's rather charming! Wait 'til you hear the little baker's van and it's funny Santa Claus chime!!! I'd absolutely love to go back to this hotel. It was a really great.

The best hotel in Unawatuna!”
we planned to stay just few days but after arrival we loved the place so much that we extended for almost two weeks. first of all is the owner and his staff- extremely friendly and helpful. hotel is brand new, ideally located on the ocean front with private beach. just few minutes walk from main beach (with all bars and restaurants) and shops. rooms/bathrooms are well equipped and clean. excellent breakfast and the best coffee (illy) in unawatuna! if you need a taxi/tuk tuk, or planning any trip the owner will arrange it for you in reasonable price (no need to book through travel agency). you will love it!

Beach life”
My husband and I stayed 6 nights at La Veranda. The owner and his family live on the grounds and provide excellent service, every question or concern we had was heard and they made sure our needs were met all the time. Breakfast was wonderful, with loving touches and smiling faces! We only ate dinner once at the hotel and it was good and reasonably priced. The room we stayed in was basic, one should choose the superior rooms, not standard, which would also have a sea view. The location was good, easily within walking distance or by tuctuc into Unawatuna, where you have a variety of shops and restaurants, or to beautiful surrounding beaches closeby.

Clean, friendly boutique hotel”
Like others, we booked for 2 days and stayed for 5. Every day we were made to feel welcome by Chandana and his staff. The rooms are clean, spacious and have wonderful sea views. The balconies are a prime relaxing spot, with waves lapping at the rocks below. A little sandy beach is perfect for a swim, with the main beach just a few steps away. This hotel is far enough away from the noise of the village night life to get a great nights sleep but it is also close enough to walk down the beach to all the restuarants and bars. The owner was flexible in accomodating us for longer than originally planned and assisted with everything needed including an urgent trip to the doctors. Well woprht a trip back to unawatuna just to stay at this lovely hotel.

A relaxing few days in a lovely small hotel. ”
a very relaxing and enjoyable few days spent at this family run hotel. The owner, Chandra and his family are lovely people who go out of their way to make your holiday special. You can see they have a love for what they do, and they do it very well. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel is small, new and in good condition. Nice rooms, big bathrooms and fantastic views from the Deluxe rooms. Great location just a few minutes from Unawatuna. Would definitely recommend to others.

Serene, beautiful and perfect”
Excellent stay at Hotel La Veranda over the New Years. Mr Chandana who runs the place is extremely friendly and will settle everything from the airport/city transfer and all activities you would want to do there. Hotel is about 5 min tuk tuk ride away from the main beach, standard rate is 200rupees, some of them agreed to 150rupees. We preferred to stay away from the main beach, as it is extremely crowded with tourists so we hung at the private beach the hotel had and went to main beach to drink/dance in the night. Highly recommend the beach restaurant right next to the hotel, with friendly staff and tables on the sand facing the waters. Good seafood there, slightly cheaper than the main beach. Wifi was a little wonky in the room but it was fine in the balcony outside the room.

Right on the beach at the quiet end of Unawatuna”
We stayed for four days and were in room one The view is amazing ( pics attached ) The room quality is good for the cost, nice ensuite and nice balcony with chairs to have a sundowner The beach is right in front of the building and it's a five minute walk to the main Unawatuna beach and the partying if that is what you like The food was great a fisherman caught an octopus in front of the building and when we suggested that we should buy it and have it for supper ... No sooner said than done ... And excellent it was two There is a hole in the wall bottle store and a small grocery store that sells ice 200m if you turn left Great place to stay and ten minutes to Galle Old Town We will be back 👍👍👍👍👍

Great hotel, location and service”
what an amazing find. i found it on agoda while looking for a place to stay. we immediately felt at home with a very warm welcome. the location could not be better -- on it's own small private beach but 3 minutes walk from the main unawatuna beach. the advantage is, it's quiet so you don't hear the noise from the beach bars blasting music until 2 or 3 am as you would on the main beach. room was nice and large with windows opening onto a sea view and a nice terrace. breakfast was very good, as were the fruit drinks. the owner and staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. definitely a place to go again

Very friendly attentive staff, ocean views”
Lovely small family run hotel. We stayed in an ocean view room. We arrived late on the first night and were met with a welcome smoothie for us and our driver. Service was excellent throughout our stay. There is a small private beach attached and Unawatuna main beach and restaurants are only a short Tuk Tuk ride away. You are also only a Tuk Tuk ride away from Galle Fort. Well worth a visit.

Excellent ocean views”
Great little budget-styled hotel in Unawatuna. The rooms are a mere 10 metres away from the ocean. If you don't mind noisy parties next door well into the night, then this is a great hotel. The two staff who work here very friendly and obliging. The only downside is that the television in my room did not work, despite several requests to get this attended to, and that the wifi was not available more than it was.

More like a homestay hotel.”
This hotel has 3 floors: 1rst floor has 4 single rooms. The 2nd floor has 2 doubles. The 3rd floor is a big apartment for a family or group. I reserved the bigger of the 2 doubles and received the lesser the first night. It was odd because the hotel was empty. After some research, I addressed the 'Man Friday' who does everything at the apartment, and a quick call to the owner resolved the problem. We moved next door and the difference was night and day. For whatever reason, the nicer double is rarely rented or so it would seem given the condition. That said, it's a beautiful family compound with a million dollar view. The private beach (while we were there) is blessed with sea turtles and colorful birds. The Sun and Sea Restaurant 3 doors down has fabulous Sri Lankan food and wood fired pizza. Next to that is a long, swimable beach, Unawatuna. Positives: view, property keeper, lovely family, and breakfast. Negatives: Flim-flam room handling, party house next door.

La Veranda Di Serena Hotel”
On arrival at this hotel we were so pleased when we seen our view and we could finally relax for a few days after travelling around Sri Lanka for the previous two weeks non stop. Unfortunately the peace and quite did not last long. The beach bar next door started blasting out dance music at 5am and this continued until 6pm in the evening. I complained to the manager on several occasions and he kept saying he could do nothing about it. Again it was not until I informed the manager at about 5:30pm that I had contacted Agoda and asked them to cancel my booking so I could book somewhere else for the following 2 nights that the manager seemed take notice. 30 minutes later the music stopped. All the reviews stated how peaceful this hotel was in its proximity away from the bars at Unawatuna but it was completely the opposite. Unawatuna beach was really quite when we went up there to eat and we had wear earplugs for over 12 hours. Unfortunately it ruined our stay at this hotel and Agoda were not much help either.
