The location is great, and it is a well known hotel. The gym was amazing, best in ANY hotel I've stayed in Asia (including ones costing 3-4x the price). The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was mostly geared towards Asians, but did have western food, and was a larger buffet. The room was clean, and actually very large. If I return to Mandalay I will stay here again!
Good location, delicious local food and friendly staff. Some more, the room price is reasonable and if you are lucky, will get free upgrade to royal suites.
Rooms are spacious and clean. Very good local food and great service!
Business hotel great for a stopover ”
Greeted with delicious grape juice - the room wasn't ready but was invite to go eat from the breakfast buffet. Strong internet in the room, kind and friendly English speaking staff. Restaurant staff eager to help and practice English. Food limited for vegans and vegetarians. Salads are cooked foods. Rooms were very comfortable - nice showers. Fitness center with an indoor pool on the street level. Easy place to stay on route to Bagan.
The kids like the pool, good location . Too many smokers. They even smoke in the corridor. The room we booked smell of smoke so bad. They did upgraded us to better room for first night. The hair dryer pipe came out while using and matainance guy said it was our fault, But later the hotel reception apologise us. The staff at the diner not efficient nor friendly.
value for money hotel at a great location in the city of Mandalay”
Very good value for the money. The restaurant at lobby level serves good food. Reasonable parking space if you bring your own car. Located on 78th Street which had direct access to express way and is within walking distance to Diamond and Yadanabon plaza's. Staff are friendly.
Very basic rooms in a dormitory-like layout. Noisy corridors most times. Return complimentary private airport transfer is a hoax. We ended up in a shared car which was only ONE way. Staff not very polite and friendly to foreigners.
Step back to 1950's room design”
Title "Step back to 1950's room design and a wooden shoe horn" Positive Helpful staff, spacious room layout - wooden flooring and furniture and they even provided a wooden shoe horn. Clean room with lots of power sockets so convenient for frequent travelers like us. Big washroom with bathtub. Sumptuous breakfast. Lots of fruits i.e. bananas, pineapple, and papaya as well as mangoes in season. Tour desk at lobby makes it convenient for independent travelers to book tours. Negative 1 hour from airport, you need taxi to get to city though easy to arrange either with hotel or tour desk
Fire Stairs Beware”
Not recommended. The bed was comfortable, the AC effective, and the breakfast very good. The staff were ok, and the furniture standard, uncomfortable Burmese wood. But the sticky splodges on the floor beside the bed were disconcerting, and the desk hadn’t been wiped for a very long time judging by the surface patches of black grime. Ok, it’s a local hotel patronised largely by Myanmar nationals and it’s not expensive. But . . . When the elevator broke down we used the fire stairs, and descended level after level of landings storing old mattresses, wooden lockers, cleaning products, and bits of furniture. The truly staggering part was coming to one landing to find three staff members seated around a large wooden desk - this was clearly their office. The exit opens into the restaurant behind the buffet table where you have to squeeze between flywire doors and staff. I will never stay in another hotel without checking the fire stairs. This hotel is a fire trap waiting for a fire.
Basic accommodation and full of mosquitoes. Friendly staff at the restaurant.
Dear Sir, Good Day! Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We'll try our best always be good service. With regards, Reservation Team Hotel Mandalay
Internet services need to improve”
Fantastic location with well equipped gym and small indoor swimming pool. Internet services really bad and need to improve.
Inside city, nice gym and swimming pool,
Spacious room and worth for your money ”
Guest room is big, breakfast is good
Busy Hotel with pollution”
We stayed on 6th floor, close to main road and pollution and noise was not great. Lift service was limited and rooms were not that clean. In terms of location - it is central and near to just about anything which was good. There is a swimming pool - which was most welcome to cool things down, so this makes up for overall disappointment of the hotel in general. Food in the restaurant had a lot of choices and generally was a good standard of service there. So overall mixed experiences but would stay somewhere else if tranquillity is what you need.
Back to the 70's”
If you take away the 32" Flat screen and remove the WiFi services, I bet you think you are back in the 70's. The Hotel is very much indeed needed a make over. Nothing much to shut about. The gym and the pool are only open at certain time and the breakfast was just below average.
Not Too Bad”
Quite a cold feel to this hotel. The ballroom/ function room has NO NOISE control so we were kept awake until 2 am from the rowdy function they were hosting. Taxi from airport to hotel was $ 12. From hotel to airport via hotel car is $20. We questioned this and mysteriously they "remembered " that there was a complimentry transfer for us.
Mandalay Long Stay”
We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and managed to utilize the location to do a lot of walking trips around Mandalay, travel to Bagan and Inlay from there as well. It is a pity the pool area is more like a training class rather than a resort style pool where we might have been able to relax.
Hotel Mandalay - Hotel that has a old charm to it”
The staff were attentive when the aircon wasnt working. Stale smell of paint around the hotel as well. i guess they just repainted. But it was normal in the room. Do note that unlike most hotels in myanmmar they dont help you do bookings for Coaches or other expeditions.
Centrally located and close to shopping, dining”
My room was quite large and comfortable. High ceiling, hardwood floor, wood furniture. The room was located in the extended wing back of the main building. It was diagonally facing to the construction site. The corridor in front of the room is double as walk way and balcony. It tend to be noisy in morning with the hotel staffs activities. There is none or very little noise insulation build into the room so you hear the noises from outside and from the neighbor rooms. The hot water is not enough and just barely warm in the morning. The weather was quite cold during my 3 days stay and challenging to take a shower in the morning.
