Amazing, but you will need some Japanese”
This is a really beautiful place and I had a lovely experience. The evening and morning meals and the baths were easy to enjoy. The location is a little tricky, but once you find it you'll be happy to be away from the crowds in a secluded place. However, if you're a non-Japanese speaker you will struggle a lot. The staff is not very welcoming if you don't speak it at all. I speak Japanese but I'm still studying so from time to time I struggled to understand and they became legitimately cross with me. Even going so far as to hit the counter in frustration during check in. It made check in and anytime I had to use the desk a challenging experience. That said if you're comfortable with Japanese, don't over look this place. It's beautiful and the food and bath is wonderful.

Japanese hospitality can be found there!!!!”
we booked this hotel and stayed during the high season of tourism in Nikko area,Autumn. If you can afford high-pricey hotel in area around Tobu nikko train station , that's OK. However, if you want more serene and very kind staffs treating you, this hotel is well recommended. Its location is not too good ,between Kinugawa-onsen station and Kosagoe station , there is shuttle service by the hotel ,please informed the staffs in advance. they are very kind and helpful, English speaking is a little bit difficulty in Japan but no problem. japanese breakfast at the Hotel is very great , we had 2 different breakfast set for our 2 day stay there. the public bath (onsen) of hotel is very good ,it's quiet and more relaxed for us. Disadvantage of this hotel is just its location that you need to take the train for transfer at Shio-imachi station for train to Nikko. However,if you have your own private car, it's no problem .

Traditional Ryokan Experience”
Hotel Manyoutei is a great experience for anyone looking for a traditional Japanese experience at a ryokan. It's about a 30 minute walk from the Kinugawa Onsen station, so you might want to take a bus if you have a lot of luggage. I don't speak any Japanese, but the staff at the train station and hotel were very accommodating. I was able to check in a little bit earlier and got a chance to explore the area. The best part of the hotel is the traditional dinner and breakfast that you can have. I stayed in a Japanese style room, and the futon was more comfortable than I expected. It was nice having the sound of the river outside the window too. The onsen was okay, but I'd recommend trying out one of the public onsen that you can visit around town.

Quiet traditional Japanese ryokan”
The hotel is located in a quiet area and pretty far from station, but its very convenient since there are bus serving from Kinugawa Onsen station & the hotel, just remember to make prior reservation before going there as they have timetable as well. Staff doesn't really speak English, but they tried their best to cater your needs, explanation will be given in a piece of paper for you to understand.

Ryokan for those with plenty of time to walk”
This ryokan is quite far away from the kinugawa station , took me 45 mins to find and reach by walking. However, it turned out to be a quiet environment, and situated next to a river. The Tobu World Square is 15 mins away via walking. To welcome the guest, they have a signboard with your name on it at the entrance. The stay included a kaiseiki dinner and breakfast at the dinning hall, and is very valued for money.

good value for money”
staff is very helpful. the rooms are priced reasonably. the free onsen at the sister hotel was only lukewarm and facility was not good but free nonetheless. The onsen bath at the hotel itself on the 2nd floor is better. Note that this area is very far from toshogu temple and lake chuzenji (about 40min drive).

So reasonable price but not clean, hardly communicate in English ”
Actually the hotel was nice and price was cheap, add more I could enjoy the hot spring. However the the condition was not so good. So I asked to the hotel receptionist but he couldn't speak English well. And I think all hotel staff members can't speak English fluently but they were really kind and reluctantly help me whenever I needed a help. The balcony view was absolutely awesome. While I was sleeping I could hear sound of stream it seemed like a song. If you ride a taxi from Kinugawa station, the price is almost 900yen, I paid 820yen perhaps.

Excellent Experience”
Had a fantastic time. Would recommend to anyone or any family who wants the true Traditional Japanese experience. I highly recommend ordering Breakfast and Dinner, absolutely delicious. Beautiful scenery and country side nearby, stunning little towns and friendly local people. Only 30 minutes by train to Nikko world heritage site. Too many good reasons to stay here.

Disappointing - could be better”
This hotel had friendly staff, but offers poor value for money. We were expecting a luxury ryokan for the price, and it was perhaps this back in 1990. However they have not reinvested and now most of the facilities - tatami in the rooms, TVs, leisure facilities - were old or out of service. For example the onsen baths had both the outside bath and the sauna closed. The food had large portions, but was average in taste. Basically, there are better ryokan for the same price in Kinugawa.

Onsite onsen with sumptous Japanese meals”
It took us quite a while to find this hotel even with the GPS in the car. It was away from town and tucked away in the area with numerous onsens. Subsequently, it was pleasant surprises all the way. The meals provided were good full course Japanese meals and the onsen was superb too.

Budget mini onsen hotel for resort town”
The rooms were basic Japanese Tatami Mat and futon style. Breakfast and dinner included in the price and were reasonably good. Onsen, is a single large pool inside, outside baths are broken. You can use a sister hotel Onsen that is walking distance, but not much different. Friendly staff and Nomihodai / Karaoke lounge for 2000 JPY for 2 hours to get your drink and singing on.

Maybe an other chance!”
The hotel lies between two train stations, with about 1,7 km to each station. It is difficult to find even on the Internet maps, because it is only written in Japanese. That fact makes it difficult to find out how to get there as well by train. The surrounding area is mountainous and green with a white river close. We came just before sunset and saw this Soviet style building from a distance, but when we came closer, the hotel looked rather pleasant. The check in went smooth and one man in the reception spoke a bit English. The futons where already made on the floor, but the bed sheets were not clean and we had them exchanged. The room was silent and quite large, with a balcony facing the Onsens and the stream/river. We were looking forward to have some dinner after freshening up in the Onsen. On the way down to the Onsen I passed the restaurant on the second floor where dozen Japanese people ate sukiyaki, which looked tasty. The Onsen interior was tasteful and I enjoyed it very much, even though I was tired and hungry. I went up to the reception and asked if we also could eat sukiyaki in the restaurant because it was only partly occupied, but the answer was no! Instead we were directed to the hotel tavern. One would find more and tastier dishes in a gas station. The portions were small and rather tasteless. Luckily I had a meal bar in my suitcase for situations like this. We slept nicely on the futons and had an early Onsen in the morning. The breakfast was served at the table and was good and tasty. When we checked out, we asked in the reception if could buy the robe, because it could be a good memory of the Onsen. Sadly, the answer was again no. However, before we left we got a small wash towel. I wish we could have seen more of the Nikko area, because it is very beautiful even in bad weather. I don't know if I would stay here again, but it deserves a second chance.

Good value for Money ”
I enjoy staying at this hotel a lot. It may look old but it has its own charms. I enjoy having Onsen bath at the basement of the hotel. Foods here are absolutely fantastic! I love the dinner set I ordered which I think is Sukiyaki dinner set. Fantastic taste and good portion.

Everything is super nice but soso for Onsen”
Food is in great portion, rice can be added whatever you want. Location is not so convenient but can go there by bus in 5 mins. Only thing which should be improved is the quality of Onsen. It is more likely to be a pool of hot water and the open hour of outdoor Onsen is not stable. But generally,it's super value for money.

Nice if with car when you stay in Nikko/Kinugawa”
Good: The room is big and clean, have spaces for placing large luggage in room. Standard Japanese Style dinner and breakfast is OK; Staffs are helpful and willing to talk / share experience with you. Fair: Quite far away from main street / railway station, only can book the hotel if you have car. Also, their parking slots are narrow and dinner/breakfast starts and ends early (7PM). Mobile phone signal is weak and Wifi only available in lobby level. Tips: Buy snacks/drinks before entering the hotel; visit the hotel earlier for dinner (make special order for dinner, like Wagyu buffet, when you book the hotel).

Value for money”
Town and some shops nearby, convenient to get to Nikko attractions (falls, theme park), authentic experience (breakfast, rooms, onsen), however nothing amazing about the hotel itself

Very good experience to live and room free upgrade”
Very good experience to accommodate with room free upgraded. Though the staff is not good in English, they have try their best to communicate with us and very helpful. The room has no wifi but the staff led a computer for us for wifi service in the room. The transportation is also good in arrangement.

Japanese feel”
We had our authentic feel of Japan in this hotel. The breakfast was great. The only drawback was their staff did not speak much english and our room was not made when we arrived. But they fixed everything when we requested them to. Love the hot spring. In the very cold whether, this was very much welcomed.

It was nice”
It was nice, but the only thing is, location is a bit far from the Nikko city. If you wish to go to Nikko you will need a car to visit the temples, lakes and other attractions in Nikko city.

quality service with reasonable price”
location is a bit far from the stn but could arrive after 20min walk and quite enjoyable. Very kind staffs and room was so japanese traditional. Onsen was okay, if bathtub outside was available, it would be more fantastic but not in service during low season. Dinner was also impressive and recommend you order Shabu Shabu with 1000 yen up charge. It seems worthy.
