I am a business traveler that visits Thailand office monthly. I have recently discovered the Mermaid and am very pleased. For a business traveler what you want to see is good AC, good Wifi, good location, cleanliness, and if you are lucky, a comfortable bed. The Mermaid is all of those and the bed is a warm relief after sleeping on beds like boards in some other countries. I have stayed at other hotels for the same price in Bangkok and the Mermaid is a "greater" value for the money than the others in room size, cleanliness, age, and comfort. Staff is great also and very very helpful. It is close to skytrain, MRT, and a fantastic German restaurant. Recommend to anyone looking for good, safe, comfortable place to stay on Sukhumvit.
Good location, convenient to food and BTS”
My initial impression of Hotel Mermaid when I saw it on Agoda was that the name seem rather curious and dubious, but I went ahead and booked it after seeing the number of positive of reviews. It turned out to be very good indeed, the room was spacious and new, and very value for money for what I had paid. The staff were very courteous and efficient, they acted upon my requests very quickly whenever I had any. There was a lady at the cafeteria who took the initiative to offer me a packed sandwich for breakfast on a few days of my stay when I had to set out before they opened up for breakfast, which I'm very grateful for. The location was very convenient to both Phrom Phong and Asoke BTS stations, less than 10min walking distance, and the main streets outside were filled with various eateries and street stalls which livened up at night. The hotel was also conveniently located within a 10min walk to the Sukhumvit 31 branch of Asia Herb Association for great masssages and spa treatments, where otherwise I would have to visit the branch located at soi 24, which is much further to walk from Phrom Phong BTS. I will definitely book a stay at Hotel Mermaid on my next trip to BKK, and hope that they keep up the good service standards.
Favorite area of Bangkok”
Full disclosure: We booked in low season at a rate of ~$62 and got a Corner Suite on the 6th floor. Pros: -First and foremost: Best beds in Bangkok. After traveling around SE Asia for a few weeks this hotel stood out in our Agoda search solely because of how many people claimed the beds were great. There are far too many 'plywood firm' beds in Asia. Hotel Mermaid spent a lot of money on their beds to set themselves apart. I loved sleeping here and not waking up aching. -Location. Sukhumvit is not the part of town where you're going to have endless tuk tuk drivers asking you where you're going. (To which the best response is always, "that way.") There's plenty of food and/or bar options within a Soi or two either direction. There's also a park nearby. And the hotel is located an equal distance (about 8 blocks) between the Asok and (the other station's name is escaping me now) BTS stations. The Metro station is also nearby. Taxi to the airport was 500 baht if set up through the front desk. -Great internet. Super fast. -Nice pool that we didn't get a chance to use. -Captain's Pub and Restaurant downstairs makes some surprisingly good food. -Loved the modern design of the room/bathroom. Rain shower head. The big tub was great for doing laundry in. -In-room safe is large. -Lots of windows in the room, great views of the city in multiple directions. -Nice balcony with chairs and table. -Get the corner suite if you come here. It's truly the way to go. -Located just a short walk down the Soi. Not a sketchy experience at all to get in and out of here even at night. Cons: -The walls are thin. I heard my neighbor blabbering on in Armenian and clearing his throat/sinuses at all times of the day and night. So I didn't feel so bad when I cheered in the middle of the night watching my favorite soccer team play a midnight game.
A true gem in Sukhumvit”
I'm extremely satisfied with our stay at hotel Mermaid. I'm very picky when it comes to hotels but the Mermaid was a real pleasant surprise. I had 4 hotel visits this time In Thailand, and this was by far the best in Bangkok. The room, a corner suite was dreamy. Nice, big comfortable bed. A really big bathroom with an enormous tub, separate shower with both rain shower and a normal one. I arrived early at the hotel and early check in was no problem, no extra charges. Everything was clean and proper and the staff behaved spotless. We visited the restaurant two times, but only for drinks. At happy hour a glass of good wine cost 100 baht. Staff was also very friendly and attentive in the restaurant. The location was superb, in a quiet soi, but only 30 meters from sukhumvit road. I would recommend this hotel to everyone! Cons: pool area was small and not so many hours of sunshine due to surrounding buildings blocking out the sun. Nothing else to complain about!
To give you an idea I know Thailand for over 30 years, staying in Sukhumvit every month and have tried many of 3-5* hotels. This time it just happened I booked Mermaid and I did not regret a single thing. Reception stuff was kind and speak very good English which is not always the case. General Manager offered me an upgrade and was really interested to convince me to come back - which I definitely will. I had a corner kingsize room and was nicely surprised by the size of the room as well as bathroom. New designer tub, sink, rain shower were benefits you don't easily find even in 5* hotels. Mattress and pillows were excellent and I slept as a baby. Room has also good size balcony with a view. Very convenient location for skytrain, shopping, entertainment and restaurants. Soi 29 is very quiet but you'll find busy bar areas in 5-10 min walking distance. Unfortunately last few days were cold in Bangkok and I didn't get chance to try swimming pool but the size of it was very inviting (25m long, I think) so I'll have to come back to try it next time. Can only recommend this establishment and will soon be back there.
Lovely stay at an excellent hotel”
we stayed three nights at this hotel. And it was a pleasant stay, making us want to come back to the same hotel again. Our room type was a Studio With Breakfast. The bathroom was excellent, and we enjoyed the rain-water type shower. The bed too was very comfortable. Not too hard, not too soft. Just what you need after a long tired day of touring around. They offered complementary two small water bottles and stuff to make coffee. And these items were replenished everyday. Hotel staff was very friendly & helpful. They made every effort they can to make our stay a pleasant one. for example, on a day we had a tour that started as early as 6.30 am, hotel offered us a packed breakfast (sandwiches and fruits) upon our request. without any hesitation. The breakfast is a typical american breakfast, with a Chinese style fried rice, for those who can't do without rice for breakfast. Bottom line, we were happy customers at Hotel Mermaid Bangkok :)
Value for money, New Hotel with New Facilities”
It was a great stay at Hotel Mermaid Bangkok. I would always prefer a nice, clean hotel with new facilities than staying at an old hotel that is centrally located. It is 10mins walk to either Asok or Phrom Phong BTS. We usually walk to Asok as it is in the direction of Siam (Central). I must say, the swimming pool with jacuzzi was a really great facility especially when you're in Bangkok, it allows you to relax after the many days of shopping! I also like the fact that whenever we need a taxi, although our hotel is not by the road, the hotel staff will walk out to the main road to get us a metered taxi. Friendly staff, and slightly bigger than other boutique hotels I have stayed in BKK. Pool was definitely a bonus. They have connecting rooms, so I would recommend for families with older children and people travelling in bigger groups. Limited Rooms, and breakfast is ok only. Would recommend to just get the hotel stay, and explore the nearby eateries for some of their cheap and good eats (local food) along the road in the direction of Asok BTS station, there is also a huge mall "Terminal 21" where you can have your meals at.
Great spot to stay on Sukhumvit”
I stayed in Hotel Mermaid for about 10 days when I first moved to Bangkok. It was absolutely perfect. The hotel is pretty new, and everything it it is modern and up to date. They had strong, reliable wifi which was important for me. The staff was super helpful and friendly to me as a newcomer to Bangkok. The location is fantastic. It is just a few buildings down a quiet soi on Sukhumvit. It's easy walking distance to the BTS, great nightlife, malls and food. And since it is on a quiet street, there are no issues with loud noise when you're trying to sleep. There's also a great massage place right across the street. My friends are coming to visit in April, and I will definitely be pushing them to stay here!
I stayed at the Hotel Mermaid Bangkok because the hotel I usually stay at on soi23 went up in price by quite a bit. So I booked at this hotel and was very pleased. I stayed in a corner suite because it had a balcony. The room was clean and up to date. The bathroom was big, it hade a separate large bathtub and a large shower with a regular shower head and a overhead rain shower..great. The water flowed hot and fast. The breakfast was good and they had a nice bar there. The WiFi in the room was free and fairly fast. The bed and pillows were sooo comfortable. I would recommend this hotel for sure.
Lovely hotel with spacious clean rooms ”
i was pleasantly surprised by what hotel mermaid was able to offer: (1) complimentary room upgrade (i booked corner suite & since the hotel was fully booked upon my check-in they upgraded me to their best room type junior suite) (2) clean & spacious room with wooden flooring, nice balcony & spacious bathroom (with both bathtub & shower stand available) (3) good breakfast buffet (it's same every day but good) (4)complimentary wifi with good connection for all rooms & public area in the hotel - makes it very convenient (5) nice swimming pool (6) convenient location - right in the middle between phrom phong & asok bts/sukhumit mrt stations which are both 10 min walk distance from the hotel (7) great cost & good services!! i stayed at the ramada encore hotel for the first night & a few other good hotels around asok area but this hotel mermaid is really the best in quality, location & in cost. the only things i would be comment are: (1) poor sound proofing of the walls so it can be quite noisy in early mornings when neighboring rooms rush to check out (2) lack of vegetable platter for breakfast buffet - it would be wonderful if they can add vegetable platter for salad
Hotel Mermaid was a very pleasant surprise and probably the best value I've had during my last 4 trips to Bangkok and SE Asia. Located less than 100 meters from Sukhumvit, there was absolutely no traffic noise. An easy walk to both Phrom Phong and Asoke BTS stations (where you can interchange with the MRT subway). Good shopping available at both Phrom Phong (Emporium) and Terminal 21 at Asoke. Near lots of night life in the vicinity of both BTS stations and a lesser known venue almost directly across the street on Soi 22. The only negative I could mention is that they did not honor my request for early check-in so I had to pay standard rate for one night in addition to the Agoda charges; but not exorbitant. My advice to anyone checking in after midnight is to book for the night prior to the date of arrival (eg.,if arriving at 2 am on 2nd of month, book for 1st of month also and notify prior to arrival an approximate time of check-in).
Reasonable price with comfortable bed near BTS”
This is my first time to stay at Mermaid Hotel. I have booked 3 nights as trial and finally i have extended my stay there for a week. I booked at corner room as i wanna have a good break for my vacation, the room is very spacious and cozy which even out of my expectation and it's quite difficult to find with such reasonable price in Bangkok. The hotel is in between 15mins walk from Asoke and Phrom Phong BTS and got convenient store on the way back to hotel if you back from Asoke BTS. Staff are friendly and love this small and clean hotel. Showers is nice as well as big modern hot-tub. But some what the sound isolation might not well as i can hear next room was shouting with his friend during the day time, but i got refreshing during the stay there. I definitely will stay at Mermaid again on my next trip to BKK again.
Great boutique hotel”
Hotel MERMAID has become my hotel of choice when I am in Bangkok. It is conveniently positioned and is a short walk to the entertainment area of Soi Cowboy. The hotel is modern with well appointed rooms and great beds. The bathroom is excellent with a large shower. The staff are helpful and security is good. The breakfast is fine and there are two elevators. It is a well run and clean hotel situated in a quiet soi about 100 metres from the main Sukhumvit Road.
Great Hidden Treasure on Sukhumvit”
3rd time staying at the Mermaid and this has become my go to hotel on the sukhumvit strip. The folks working here are super friendly, the rooms are beautiful, and the restaurant and bar are very well done. All in all a beautiful hotel for the price and a place I will keep staying at when I'm in Bangkok for work or pleasure.
Absolutely loved everything about my stay here. Everything was great. the staff everywhere, from the frontdesk, to the restaurant, housekeeping, to the owners. Everybody were so friendly. The rooms were spacious, and a big plus for me was, that there were no carpets. Im an astmatic, and hate thick carpets, but in Mermaid, everything was clean, and nice. I had a small balcony, where I sat every night, enloying a cold beer. the hotels restaurant, was also a big plus. the food was excellent, and offered a wide menu with thai and scandinavian food. The restaurant also have a bar. Admirals Pub. A cozy pub, with a good atmosphere. The staff at the bar were also very helpfull, as I had questions, about what to visit in Bangkok. This is the hotel I want to stay at, the next time i visit Bangkok.
this hotel is a keeper!”
Bangkok is mostly famous for girlie clubs and cheap prices, but the low prices are normally available only in the worst hotels. I'm still astonished that I discovered a classy, lovely hotel, with great professional service (English speaking!), a wonderful pool for laps, and located on a quiet street, yet very near Asok, all for the sum of . The Mermaid was impeccably clean, and boasts very European modern bathrooms, excellent spa towels, perfect pillows and bed. I struggle to suggest any improvements, whereas, normally, I can come up with a long list of improvements for most hotels. I'll definitely stay here again every time I'm in BKK!
Great Hotel, great value”
Stayed in many hotels in Bangkok over many years. My first time staying at the Mermaid as a result of reading Agoda Reviews. I was not disappointed, super room, super comfy bed. Nothing to complain about only to praise. Definitely will stay here again, hugely enjoyable stay and great value for money at the price, maybe a little further from BTS than some other hotels but a brisk 10 min walk takes you to Asoke BTS.
Relaxing and Enjoyable”
We used our stay in Bangkok as a winding down and shopping time before returning home. We had looked for a hotel that was relaxing, low-key but still had the features we wanted, and the Mermaid seemed to suit our needs. My wife and I really loved the Corner Suite. We stayed on the 5th floor, although my wife had asked for a higher floor while checking-in. Our inability to do that was our only disappointment with the stay. We both really liked the balcony and made frequent use of it, just sitting and enjoying our remaining days in Bangkok. The protests at the time made the taxi ride from the airport to the hotel circuitous, but the taxi driver had no problem finding the place. It was a short walk to Sukhumvit. Soi 29 is midway between the Asoke and Phrom Phong Skytrain stations, so either direction is a bit of a walk if you plan to use the Skytrain. Overall, we felt we made a good choice with the hotel and room and plan to stay there when we go back to Bangkok.
Exceptional value in great location”
this was one of the best deals we ever got in a hotel. our room would be s solid 4-star or even 5-star in some european and american cities but for the fraction of the price. the room and hotel are clean, modern and in a good location to asok and sukhumvit road, asok bts and many restaurants, bars, etc. but it is in a quiet street just off sukhumvit. the restaurant in the hotel is actually quite good, too and there's a pretty extensive scandinavian/danish menu in addition to traditional thai fare. we would absolutely recommend this hotel when you go to bangkok and you won't get much more in one of the typical 5-star chains, except a much higher price.
