Cheap but not cheerful”
Good location central to everything in CBD. Pub facilities. Room was barren and cold. Shared bathroom was clean. Noise from street day and night. Never again.
good location, not so good facilities”
on the plus side, location is excellent. the central market is right opposite the hotel. there’s a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. also, we were given 20% discount because of last minute booking. on the negative, beds were not comfy, at least the ones provided to us. i’m 5’8” and my partner 5’2” but we could not sit well on the lower bed; there was no chair in the room; no internet. there’s also a pub at the ground floor and a band was singing and playing electric guitar in max volume until at least 12mn. i could even feel the sound on the floor. if you are looking for a comfy and quiet place, this hotel won’t be your best bet. i won’t recommend it.
Absolutely loved it except for parking..”
it was a very comfortable stay :)
Hi Luke, Thanks for your feedback. Parking has always been an issue for us. Cheers, Matt
Central located. Over priced. Little facilites. Hard bed. Very loud due to pub below”
My previous review (2019-02-20 - 2019-02-21) was wrong. This is my opinon: The hotel is located in central Adelaide. The rooms are located above a pub. Very loud when pub is open. The bed is really hard. For sharing shower and toilet, the price is really far too expensive. Please book another hotel.
Close to most attractions. Uncomfortable bed. Breakfast with limited options :(”
The hotel is within 5 minutes walk to Southern Cross station, from where you can take shuttle bus to the airport. It's also located within walking distance to most attractions in central Melbourne. When booking on Agoda, I booked with breakfast included. However, the hotel have two "levels" of breakfast, one "standard" and one "continental" (that includes bacon, egg ...). I was not aware of that when booking on Agoda it only said "breakfast". I got "standard" breakfast, that included fruits, bread that could be toasted, pancakes, youghurt and müsli. I never considered to upgrade to "continental" breakfast as I found it too expensive. If I new what options I had for my breakfast, I'd rather exclude breakfast to have lower cost for my staying and buy breakfast or lunch somewhere else. On my stay, I had to change room as they were doing some work with plumbing. Both rooms offered a too hard bed (though I like hard beds) and sofas that should be replaced 10 years back (V-shape when sit).
Hi Magnus, I Think this review is for a Melbourne based hotel. We are located in Adelaide. Cheers, Matt
This establishment was fine for me travelling alone. My wife would not have stayed there as she would have felt uncomfortable in the rather run down residential rooms. She cettainly would not have liked the shared facilities The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Have one meal in and it was reasonably priced and very good. Location is of course excellent.
I would stay here again.”
Centrally located, near market, chinatown, free city bus. Balcony to enjoy, very friendly patrons, perfect weather, couldn't rate higher, for what it is. Basic room & shared amenities, clean & comfortable, inexpensive room. Compliments to the cleaning lady :) Adelaide one of the best kept secrets!!!
Noisy location. Verandah was a gathering place for smokers, so whilst the rooms were billed as smoke-free, the smoke from the verandah patrons wafted inside. Pedestrian crossing lights directly outside the room were very noisy. Linen clean and crisp. Rooms felt insecure; no security slide on the inside of the door, so anyone with a key could enter without restraint. Easy to get to; transport nearby. Relatively close to airport.
Don't confuse the bar with the accommodation”
The bar on the street level is fantastic, plenty of great food and drinks. However the accommodation required shared bathroom and toilet facilities and each room only has a mirror, bar fridge, draws and two very old single beds. I think the price of my room was inflated as the test match was playing at the time. If the rooms are around the $35 mark then you're paying about the right price.
Loud and uncomfortable”
I had a poor night in this hotel/pub as the music from downstairs was very loud in the room and continued until very late, plus the bed was uncomfortable, the single standing fan in the room didn't really cool it down much and the shared bathroom stank. Admittedly it was inexpensive (with the 30% discount I found online), but if you want a good night's sleep I would go somewhere else and spend just a bit more money.
I stayed one night in a single room. It was cheap and cheerful. I would stay again if I was on a budget.
next door to the theatre so convenient but noisy road noise”
Good spot across from market but no free parking available. Be good for early rises cos the road noise started very early, pub noise goes late. Creaky floor boards you can't escape. And shared bathrooms ok if the person before you is clean.
very good rate.”
This very competitive rate in Adelaide.
I was given a bunk bed room above the live band room, somewhat different to double bed room photo presented on booking page. Recommend earplugs or watching the bands. No chair in room. It's a cheap and cheerful crash pad for revelers, nothing more. Staff were super friendly and nice however.
An old dame in the centre of Adelaide”
You can't beat the location of this hotel. It is right in the centre of Adelaide, opposite Central Market (great place for breakfast and lunch btw) and walking distance from all the city sights. Metropolitan Hotel is an old Victorian style hotel situated just above a busy and atmospheric pub. The hotel has a real character. Rooms are a bit rundown but clean (although room windows should be washed) and the bed is comfortable. What I was really surprised of was the cleanliness of shared toilets and bathrooms. There are several on the floor. Although the rooms are just above the pub, with frequent live music nights, it wasn't noisy at all. I stayed in room 13 and couldn't here a thing there. The only minus is the wifi. There is no hotel wifi but they use free Adelaide wifi from the street that doesn't come to all the rooms (therefore no wifi in my room) and I don't think this is quiet professional from any hotel.
Only for location
Nice location n good deal”
It was happy to stay over the night there. Very convenient location, and the room I stayed was enough big for on my own. Just little bit noisy.
Just a really bad accomondation!
Great value for money”
The budget room is basically just a bed and a wardrobe but for 55 Dollars per night its great value if all you want is somewhere to crash after a good night in the city. There is a parking building on the side street that does parking for 25 a night which takes the cost upwards a bit but for me, I love staying in a rustic pub rather than a sterile building with lobby staff. Food is also good and affordable with specials at around the 17 dollar mark. In the 100 dollar rooms you get a fridge and table on the balcony so if you want to save money you can grab food and drinks from the Central Markets across the road. In sumnary, if you're more bohemian than bureaucrat than give this pub a whirl.
The best location in Adelaide”
Perfect location across from the amazing Central Market, nothing fancy but all a solo traveller needs for a day or two. Keep in mind that one can only check in/access reception during the open hours of the establishment.
